Palera1n team confirms plan to support iPadOS 17, and eventually Apple TVs

While Apple will indeed be killing off the iPhone X and older starting with iOS 17 despite initial rumors suggesting the contrary, the good news is that certain checkm8 bootrom exploit-vulnerable devices including older iPads and Apple TVs can run iPadOS 17 and tvOS 17.

Even more good news is that the palera1n team appears to have plans to support those devices.

In a Tweet, shown above, and an announcement shared via the palera1n team’s Discord server, shown below, the palera1n team confirmed that it plans to support iPadOS 17 on those iPads that support it, including the following:

  • iPad (6th generation)
  • iPad (7th generation)
  • 10.5-inch iPad Pro
  • 12.9-inch iPad Pro (2nd generation)
palera1n team confirms via Discord its plan to support iPadOS 17 and Apple TVs.

As for Apple TVs, the palera1n team says that support is planned, but that it won’t be for a while. Nevertheless, it will be coming at some point.

One important note worth stating is that iPadOS 17 devices that jailbreak with palera1n will only have access to a rootless jailbreak, which is pretty much the way of the future going forward. Already, Dopamine for iOS & iPadOS 15 and palera1n for iOS & iPadOS 15 and 16 are pioneering the rootless dynamic as more jailbreak tweak developers make tweaks that support it.

It’s also worth noting that those checkm8-vulnerable devices that can run iPadOS 17 aren’t likely to support iPadOS when Apple announces it next year, so chances are, this will be the last season of updates pertaining to the checkm8 bootrom exploit as Apple prepares to lay it to rest once and for all.
