  • What’s happening? Apple has announced that its Apple TV+ video service will soon be available to every Canal+ subscriber at no additional charge.
  • Why care? This offering is relevant to existing and new Canal+ subscribers who don’t own an Apple device but want to check out Apple TV+.
  • What to do? Canal+ subscribers will get free Apple TV+ automatically as part of their current plan beginning April 20.

Free Apple TV+ for Canal+ subscribers

Free Apple TV+ is available to all Canal+ subscribers in France starting on April 20, directly on their current set-top box. The company will also broadcast select Apple TV+ originals on the Canal+ channel as part of the deal. Of course, you must be a Canal+ subscriber (or become one) to be eligible for this offering.

Some of the Apple TV+ originals premiering soon include the romantic action-adventure “Ghosted”; “Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie”; “Killers of the Flower Moon,” with Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro; spy thriller “Argylle”; and historical action epic “Napoleon” directed by Ridley Scott and starring Joaquin Phoenix.

The announcement published in the Apple Newsroom quotes Apple’s services boss Eddy Cue as calling this “an incredible offering for Canal+ customers.”

“Liason” is the first Franco-British Apple original

Like other streaming services, Apple is required to spend some of its budget for original programming on locally produced shows, like “Liaison” (the first Franco-British Apple original) and “Drops of God.”

Apple describes the former as a “high-stakes, contemporary thriller exploring how the mistakes of our past have the potential to destroy our future, combining action with an unpredictable, multilayered plot where espionage and political intrigue play out against a story of passionate and enduring love.”

“Drops of God” makes the second multilingual French project for Apple TV+. The eight-episode series is about the world of gastronomy and fine wines in Tokyo. It’s based on the popular manga from Tadashi Agi and Shu Okimoto and stars Fleur Geffrier and Tomohisa Yamashita.

Other free Apple TV+ offerings

This offer will make sense to Canal+ subscribers who don’t own an Apple device or haven’t purchased a new Apple hardware recently. The company already offers three free months of Apple TV+ with a new iPhone, iPad, Mac or Apple TV purchase.

Apple itself offers a free seven-day trial of Apple TV+, with longer trials up to three months available from some of the company’s partners.

For example, US customers can get twelve free months of Apple TV+ via T-Mobile, six free months with a PlayStation 5 purchase or three months with a PlayStation 4.

Apple recently jacked up the pricing of some of its services, so Apple TV+ now costs $7/month for the individual service. You can save some money by subscribing to an Apple TV bundle, which includes Apple TV+.
