Cucu upgrades notification banners on jailbroken iPhones with countdown timers & more

If you’re jailbroken and in the market for an exciting new way to customize your handset’s notification banner experience, then we have just the right jailbreak tweak for you!

Cucu is a new and free release by iOS developer Xyaman that offers a handful of intriguing new features for incoming notification banners, and like most high-quality jailbreak tweaks, it’s fully configurable by the end user.

In the screenshot examples below, you’ll see that Cucu can put an aesthetically pleasing countdown timer on the right side of the notification banner itself that alerts users to how much longer it will be before the banner disappears:

Cucu also allows the user to choose the countdown timer duration, as well as colorize notification banners to their liking. The whole suite of options will be found in the tweak’s dedicated preference pane post-installation:

Options here include:

  • Enabling or disabling Cucu on demand
  • Configuring your preferred countdown timer duration (in seconds)
  • Choosing a preferred dismiss visualization style:
    • None
    • Timer
    • Fill
  • Customize the Timer:
    • Choose between adaptive or custom coloring style
      • If custom, then you can select what color you want to use
    • Choose a preferred timer size (in px)
    • Choose a preferred text size (in px)
    • Choose a preferred line width (in px)
  • Customize the Fill:
    • Choose between adaptive or custom coloring style
      • If custom, then you can select what color you want to use
    • Display a test banner to see what your changes will look like

A respring will be required to save any changes you make with this tweak. Fortunately, simply turning the tweak off and on requires a respring to take effect, so it’s particularly easy to force a respring when you need it.

Since I’m not always staring at my iPhone’s screen when it’s on, having a visual timer reference as offered by Cucu can be an appealing feature. This is especially the case when playing away-from-keyboard games where I often turn my attention to other things around me and then happen to notice a notification on my screen when looking down. Your results may vary.

If you’re interested in giving the new Cucu tweak a try, then you can download it for free from Xyaman’s personal repository via your favorite package manager. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS 14 devices and is open source on the developer’s GitHub page.

Those who aren’t already using Xyaman’s repository can add it to their package manager app with the following URL:
