This tweak automatically deletes 2FA and Short Code messages after a user-set amount of time

More and more frequently, iPhone and iPad users are being pushed by Apple or third parties to take advantage of two-factor authentication or text-messaged short codes to confirm their identity when logging in to apps and services.

These messages can add up over time, especially if you use many apps and services that you log in or out of frequently, resulting in excessive conversation buildup in the Messages app.

You could delete these single-use message conversations manually, one by one, or you could take advantage of a new and free jailbreak tweak called NoMoreShortCodes by iOS developer Arcas, which deleted them automatically following a user-determined amount of time.

Messages like these will be deleted automatically after they’ve served their purpose.

This would be incredibly useful for a lot of people since it can automatically delete those two-factor authentication and short code message conversations after they’ve served their purpose. In turn, users have less clutter in the Messages app and won’t have to worry about forgetting to delete them later on.

Once installed, NoMoreShortCodes adds a dedicated preference pane to the Settings app where users can configure the tweak to their liking:

Options here include:

  • Toggling NoMoreShortCodes on or off on demand
  • Ensuring that you really want those messages to be deleted with a secondary “Agree to Terms” toggle switch
  • Entering the number of seconds after which a supported message type would be deleted (default 60 seconds — allow yourself enough time to view the message and use the code before deleting)
  • View a count of the number of deleted messages by way of NoMoreShortCodes
  • Respring your device to save any changes you make

NoMoreShortCodes is a tweak I didn’t even know I needed, but now I’m happy I learned about it. I get those short codes a lot from my carrier and other apps I use for confirming my identity, and having to go back and delete those messages after using the codes is downright annoying.

Those who’d like to give the new NoMoreShortCodes tweak a try can download it for free from the Twickd repository via their favorite package manager. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS 13 and 14 devices.
