Snapchat unveils TikTok-like Spotlight with $1 million fund for creators

Snapchat is taking on TikTok with Spotlight, a new service that brings the most entertaining Snaps from the community all in one place, along with a $1 million fund that will be divided daily among creators based on the popularity of their Snaps.

The new feature is rolling out in the US, UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany and France, with additional countries following soon. Your algorithmically-based Spotlight feed is personalized to your tastes based on the Snaps you’ve favorited and time spent watching different types of content.

According to Snaps’ blog post:

Like our other platforms within Snapchat, Spotlight will be defined by our community — how they use it, what they create and the stories they tell. Our hope is that Spotlight lowers the barrier to content creation. You don’t have to have a public account, just a great Snap, to be featured.

And, as a way to reward Snapchatters for their creativity, we’re distributing over $1 million USD per day to anyone who makes the most entertaining Spotlight Snaps. You don’t have to be a celebrity, influencer or public figure to earn. We want to make Spotlight fair and fun.

Starting today, content creators can submit their best video Snaps for inclusion to the Spotlight feed and their chance to earn a share of the fund.

In order to earn revenue, Snapchatters must be 16 or older. In some places, Snapcahtters must obtain parental consent to earn money.
