iPad Pro may adopt OLED display in late 2021, mini-LED model still expected early next year

The iPad Pro lineup may see quite a shakeup next year. And not just once, either, if the latest rumor pans out.

According to a report today from The Elec, Apple is planning to tap both Samsung and LG for OLED displays in the iPad Pro lineup before the end of 2021. The tablet would arrive sometime in the second half of 2021, but the report doesn’t hint at a specific launch date. But that’s not even the most interesting part of the report.

According to The Elec, Apple still plans to launch an iPad Pro with a mini-LED display sometime in the first half of 2021. That would certainly line up with plenty of rumors in the past! Earlier this month it was said that Apple would launch an iPad Pro with a mini-LED display in the first quarter of next year. And that has been the belief for quite some time now.

However, the primary difference with this report is the inclusion of an OLED display still being scheduled for release after the iPad Pro with mini-LED launches. The two technologies share plenty of the same benefits, including better contrast ratio, better power efficiency, and much more. That’s compared to a standard LCD panel, anyway.

So Apple could use both display technologies, but the rumor mill up to this point has leaned towards Apple choosing one over the other. If Apple uses both –especially in the same year– that would certainly be an interesting decision.

Nothing is confirmed quite yet, of course, so things could change. But, what do you think of this report?
