Apple programmed iOS in such a way that the iPhone’s Status Bar would display the current time. But unlike the iPhone’s larger cousin, the iPad, its Status Bar doesn’t display other pertinent time-centric information like the date.

Fortunately for jailbreakers, a newly released and free jailbreak tweak dubbed Waqt by iOS developer P2KDev can change this apparent shortcoming on Apple’s part.

As shown in the screenshot example above, Waqt can be used to show the current date underneath the Status Bar’s time display. And before you ask… yes, the date format is fully customizable.

After you install Waqt, you’ll find a dedicated preference pane in the Settings app where you can configure Waqt to your liking:

Here, you can:

  • Configure the format for the Status Bar’s time indicator
  • Configure a preferred font size for the Status Bar’s time indicator
  • Configure the format for the Status Bar’s date indicator
  • Configure a preferred font size for the Status Bar’s date indicator
  • Adjust the spacing between the Status Bar’s date and time indicators

The developer includes a Respring button at the bottom of the preference pane that you can use to save any changes you make.

Personally, I like the idea of having the date in my iPhone’s Status Bar. It saves me from having to glance at my Calendar app icon, which I tend to delete from my Home screen in place of third-party alternatives such as Fantastical. Even if you don’t, the tweak is useful for displaying the time and date within apps.

Those interested supercharging their iPhone’s Status Bar can download Waqt completely free of charge from the Packix repository via their preferred package manager. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS 11, 12, and 13 devices – including the notched variety.
