LG confirms Dolby Atmos support coming to Apple TV app, AirPlay 2 later this year

Earlier this week, LG started rolling out the Apple TV app to compatible 2019 smart TV models.

And now the Life’s Good crew has provided even more good news: Dolby Atmos support. The company has confirmed to¬†Flat Panels HD that Dolby Atmos support will be coming to its compatible smart TVs that can run the Apple TV app, and support AirPlay 2, at some point later this year.

The statement doesn’t offer much more than that, unfortunately. Per LG:

Support for Dolby Atmos will be coming later this year.

The report indicates that while LG doesn’t specifically name drop the Apple TV app or AirPlay 2 in this statement, the company is definitely referring to both. Unfortunately while “later this year” is a nice start, LG isn’t giving us a specific date for launch. So owners of supported LG-branded smart TVs looking forward to Dolby Atmos support for even better audio quality will just have to wait a bit.

But it’s an important feature for folks who enjoy the better audio quality, especially considering the Apple TV 4K supports the feature right out of the box. What’s more, it would give LG a leg up on the competition that also support the Apple TV app and AirPlay 2, because Amazon’s Fire TV, Samsung’s smart TVs, and Roku TV don’t support Dolby Atmos.

So at least LG can brag about that before the end of 2020.
