Apple’s developer site was not hacked

Contrary to some previous reports that suggested Wednesday that the Apple Developer website had been hacked, Apple said in a statement to The Loop on Thursday that there was no security breach and that the issue was caused by a bug.

The statement sent to The Loop:

Due to a bug in our account management application, your address information was temporarily displayed incorrectly in your account details on the Apple Developer website. The same incorrect address was displayed to all affected developers. The underlying code-level bug was quickly resolved and your address information now shows correctly. There was no security breach and at no time were the Apple Developer website, applications, or services compromised; nor were any of your Apple Developer membership details accessed by, shared with, or displayed to anyone.

Starting Wednesday afternoon, many developers started reporting that their registered address in the Developer Member Center wrongly showed a Russian address. These reports, plus the fact that Apple shut down access to the Developer Center shortly after, fueled suspicions that the company had been hacked.

We now know this was just a bug that has apparently been fixed.
