Have a Headache? There’s an App for That

Third-party applications have turned smartphones into digital Swiss Army knives over the last few years. It seems like there are apps for everything these days, that do anything from helping you become a better lover, to improving your golf game.

Apparently, there is even software for your iPhone that can help alleviate your headaches. These apps omit audible tones that supposedly synchronize your brainwaves to deeply relaxing low-frequency waves. It sounds impressive, but does it work?

Studies have shown that various states of mind can be associated with certain types of low frequency sounds. If you want to try it out for yourself, the best specimen for this type of software is Banzai Labs‘ BrainWave Headache Relief.

Not only is it free, but it’s packed with more features than most of its competition. You can choose from multiple background sounds — including Ocean, Rain, Thunder, and Pink Noise — and multiple frequency settings. It also has a timer so you can fall asleep using the app.

Even if you don’t understand all of the technical jargon, BrainWave Headache Relief may be worth a try — especially if you suffer from frequent headaches. A lot of folks claim that the app really works. Just check out some of its App Store reviews:

“Wow! I had a really bad headache and was desperate. I downloaded this, and I was completely impressed! It worked in 20 minutes!

It works! This app does work! I suffer from migraines and have not had to take any meds since installing this app!! Do not listen to the pink noise because it does not mask the brainwaves.

It works!! After a bad hangover my head was pounding. This took away my headache and helped me sleep. For free!! Awesome!!”

To be fair, there were also comments that claimed the app did nothing. But with 4 out of 5 stars on 143 ratings, most of the feedback seems to be pretty positive. It’s also worth noting that several reviewers found that it worked much better with over-the-ear headphones.

So the next time you have a headache, try out BrainWave Headache Relief. It’s available in the App Store for free. What have you got to lose? (Except maybe your headache.)

Have you tried this or a similar app? Did it work for you?
