Abraham Masri has updated his iOS 10.2.1 Saïgon jailbreak, incorporating Siguza’s new v0rtex exploit. Using the same vulnerability as Ian Beer’s exploit for iOS 11, v0rtex for iOS 10 has replaced ziVA as the kernel magic behind the Saïgon jailbreak. This change has brought greater stability to Saïgon, which was previously very finicky to successfully run.

The update, beta 3, also brings support to more devices, though still on a limited range of firmwares. Here is the new supported device list:

  • iPad Air (Cellular) (10.2)
  • iPhone 5s (10.2.1)
  • iPhone SE (10.2.1) (not tested)
  • iPhone 6/Plus (10.2.1)
  • iPhone 6s/Plus (10.2.1) (not tested)
  • iPhone 6 (10.3.x) (not yet)

It is to be hoped that the remainder of the 64-bit devices gain support soon. v0rtex technically works all the way up to iOS 10.3.3, and on all devices up to the iPhone 7(+). However, there is more to be done before they can get a full jailbreak. Expect to see pre-iPhone 7 devices get support on iOS 10.2.1 first, then on iOS 10.3.x. Support for 32-bit devices may come next, from tihmstar. iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus support will likely be last, as their newer hardware protections will need an additional exploit which is currently missing, or else an entirely re-written Cydia Substrate.

Here is the full changelog for Saïgon beta 3:

  • Significantly better success rate using new exploit (v0rtex)
  • Support for more devices (partially tested)
  • Complete re-write of the application

To update from an earlier beta, simply delete the old Saïgon app, reboot your device, sideload the new beta .ipa with Cydia Impactor, and re-jailbreak. Expect it to take far fewer tries than it used to!

As you can see from the image above, I’ve recently tested the new beta on an iPhone 5s on iOS 10.2.1. It works perfectly, with the jailbreak process working first try each time I have tried it so far.

Let me know your experiences with Saïgon, and if you have any questions, feel free to ask them below!

I’m not sure what’s going on with IDB lately but first, I will have to Uninstall the app and then disable all the notifications on my Mac. Reason? No longer post valuable/uptodate news. At first, I was super excited when I got notification and then I open the post. So old news like my grandma and why IDB post this now, I can’t say. This is just not acceptable and I’m done.

saigon beta 3 has 7 days from 10/12/2017

  • askep3

Was excited when I saw 2.1 but then realized it said 10.2.1

    • Mario Mendez

Not even my iPhone 7 Plus on 10.3.1 gets love.

      • Joaquim Barbosa

Hopefully it will eventually, the exploits technically work, there’s just one piece missing because of the newer hardware.

  • Chris Ryan

@Joaquim can the prometheus guide still be used to update from 9.3.3 to 10.2.1 ? and does this app have to be side loaded every 7 days ?

    • Joaquim Barbosa

Only on A7 devices (5s, iPad mini 2, etc). Other devices cannot use prometheus to go to iOS 10 anymore. Yes, Saïgon must be side loaded every 7 days, the same as all apps if you have no developer account. However, you can use a tweak like Extender: Reloaded to automate this process, which I recommend doing. So it’s not really a problem. Thanks!

      • Chris Ryan

so iPhone 6 is A8, is that correct?

      • Joaquim Barbosa

Sadly yes, A8 can’t go to iOS 10 anymore. If you have iOS 11 blobs, you probably will be able to use those to go to iOS 11.1.2 with blobs. I’d wait until a full iOS 11 tool is released though (doesn’t look like it’ll be long).

      • Chris Ryan

I have been saving the blobs for each new firmware released , but the last time I checked there was no way to verify them with the tssserver site.
I will definitely wait till a full tool for iOS 11 is released, but in the meantime maybe you could update the Prometheus guide for when that moment comes ?!

@Joaquim can the prometheus guide still be used to update from 9.3.3 to 10.2.1 ? and does this app have to be side loaded every 7 days ?

If there was an 11.2 jailbreak with iPhone X this wouldn’t even be a story.

    • If there was an 11.2 jailbreak w̶i̶t̶h̶ ̶i̶P̶h̶o̶n̶e̶ ̶X̶ this wouldn’t even be a story.

    • Joaquim Barbosa

This is a site which reports jailbreak news, amongst other things, of which this is a piece. An 11.2 jailbreak would be bigger news yes, but I think you know as well as I do that there isn’t one. Many people are using this tool to jailbreak iOS 10 devices right now.

    • Vinnie Bones

A Jailbreak is still a jailbreak, and 10.3.3 has a better chance releasing before 11.1.2/11.2

  • Bram

Was excited when I saw 2.1 but then realized it said 10.2.1

  • nonchalont

All this jb news makes it feel like an iOS 11 is eminent.

  • Vinnie Bones

Is this new? I’ve been JB’ened on 10.2.1 for a couple weeks now

    • Joaquim Barbosa

The tool is not new, but this update is. It is a lot more stable (the exploit behind it has completely changed). If you jailbroke with an older version, I recommend changing to this one for better performance. Cheers!

  • Jay Panjwani

does it works on iphone SE ? i tried the earlier version but i got nothing!!
