Google Maps New Icon

Google yesterday bumped its mapping application for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch to version 4.23, adding a few new features including revamped widgets for “Nearby Transit” and “Travel Times” that now adhere to iOS 10’s new design style for widgets.

In Google Maps 4.23 for iOS, you can now upload photos along with your reviews of places and see descriptions of places including features, atmosphere and amenities.

This is what the old Google Maps widgets looked like.

And here they are in all their iOS 10 glory.

On the “Nearby Transit” widget, any transit station can be expanded to show more information regarding your available transit options. The “Travel Times” widget shows the estimated drive time to your Home and Work locations, like before. You can update your Home and Work locations inside Google Maps for iOS or on the web.

Most of the stock apps in iOS 10 now have widgets.

Previously available through the Notification Center’s Today section, widgets in iOS 10 show up on the Lock screen and Home screen 0 and inside of the Notification Center.

Widgets in iOS 10 use the light, blurred background provided by the system for consistency and legibility.

Google Maps is a free download from the App Store.

Nice. All IOS needs now is Finder and I’ll be completely satisfied.

I really would like a file system on my iphone. It doesn’t have to give you root access (for obvious reasons) but at least a basic one with a download folder for any file downloaded off safari etc.

Yes iFile is one of my favorites

iOS is a file system, what you want is a file explorer which is Finder.

along the same lines, the Maps Destinations widget for Apple Maps kinda sucks. Great concept, but it never actually shows me the next destination in my calendar. Unless I’m misunderstanding the point of the widget.

  • Am I the only one that likes the look of those first screenshots better? Personally I much prefer that frosted glass look to that harsh gray pallet.

I like that look too, I don’t know

Personally I prefer to use Sarajevo for my public transportation screenshots, but that’s just me..

That white is so ugly. Really hope they come out with a dark mode in 10.2 because the white is annoying and burns my eyes at night even with night shift on with low brightness.

    • Do you wear glasses? I mean I want dark mode really bad too but the night shift & low brightness are great and any eye strain is non existent for me when they are on.. maybe you should go to an optometrist.. last time I went they said everyone should have glasses
