nito TV home screen

If you’ve been around the jailbreak community for a few years, you are probably familiar with nitoTV for Apple TV, the installer that gained popularity back in the days of the Apple TV 2. Things had become a little uneventful for a few years due to the lack of a jailbreak for Apple TV, but now that things have changed, nitoTV developer Kevin Bradley is back at it with an updated version of the popular installer.

In this post, we’ll show you how to install nitoTV on your jailbroken Apple TV.

Note that nitoTV is only compatible with the new fourth-generation Apple TV running tvOS 9.0 or 9.0.1.

1) Jailbreak your Apple TV. We have very detailed instructions available at this link, so if you haven’t done so, make sure to check it out as it is an obvious requirement.

2) On your Mac, launch Terminal and type in the following command to SSH into your Apple TV (note the default password is “alpine”):

ssh root@Apple-TV.local

3) Now that you are logged in, type the following:

wget http://nitosoft.com/ATV4/installNTV.sh
chmod +x installNTV.sh
./installNTV.sh

Your Apple TV should now reboot and you should see the nitoTV icon on your Home screen. This is where the fun begins!

nitoTV packages

From there, you can install Kodi, Provenance, a web browser, and more. We’ll be back soon with more details about all these, so stay tuned!

Would this be more stable than the alpha versions of Kodi by side loading ?

    • Chris Breuer

      no, same version.

  • I don’t see the point of JB on apple tv now as you can sideload apps, but good none the less 🙂

    • Joshua The-Legend Wiebe

the point is advantage, side loading is there, sure, but to jailbreak the apple tv, you’ve got more opportunities than just side loading.

    • Said the exact same thing last week, I just don’t see any point to a jailbreak these days. Side loading is extremely easy and works well, no need for all the mess.

    • Not to mention you can still update your Apple TV and enjoy the new features.

    • Furby8704

sideloading isnt permanent. code signing expires when either the provisioning file or signing certificate expires. For free accounts this is 90 days, paid accounts get 1 year.

Yep thats the big drawback with side loading. But i sign the certificate every 90 days lol

      • Furby8704

too lazy to be doing it every 90 days lol

      • Anonymous

I only have one side loaded app… And its an emulator. It’s worth the few minutes every three months to be able to always have my nse games with me.

      • Lakh Jhajj

Can you pls explain how to re-sign the certificate. i have side loaded few apps via Xcode but i am noob at this. so to resign every 90 days do i have to repeat the whole Xcode process again?

  • Standout

So with this whole sideloading thing. Would we be able to sideload the tweaks?

    • Anonymous

No, because you need root access, apple sandboxes it XOS, thats the advantage with a jailbreak and why your jailbreaking.

Can we get PopcornTime on the Apple TV running tvOS 9.3 somehow? That is the one and only thing that I’ve been waiting for.

    • Joshua The-Legend Wiebe

      Yes, through side loading

      • Josh Venegas

please share! I really want popcorn time on my apple tv. do you have a link?

      • Joshua The-Legend Wiebe

        Google is your friend

      • Josh Venegas

I figured it out last night! Woohoo! 😀

  • Mark S

Too bad Kodi has to stream… That’s where I like my fire tv better. I can play content over usb and not tie up my network.

    • Rowan09

You can download with Kodi with Phoenix and Exodus.

      • F P

        Genesis and Spector also

      • Legend

With all of them you can download. lol…

      • 9to5Slavery

Do you know how to put sportsdevil onto it? I can’t seem to ssh back into apple tv

      • Rowan09

Yes add this repo. Of course http first, repo dot dokitv dot nl

      • 9to5Slavery

is that comma mistake? between first and repo?

      • Rowan09

You know every repo you add in system, file manager starts with http:// that’s all I meant. Then you continue the rest after the comma. The dot is a . But I can’t put up a web address here

      • 9to5Slavery

gotcha, first wasn’t part of the address..

      • 9to5Slavery

THANK YOU YOU SAVED MY LIFE!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE YOU!

      • Rowan09

Lol no problem. The sports center addon is also good and get Pro Sport it’s a great one as well, just get addon installer from program addons and it should be there.

      • 9to5Slavery

        ok!

      • 9to5Slavery

pro sports is not listed in the repo under program addons. is it taken off?

      • Rowan09

Go to settings and click on install from repository then (I’m sure you added super repo) click on super repo, go to addon repository and install the mucky duck repo. After you you install it click into it and choose video addons, where you’ll see Pro Sports and download it.

      • Rowan09

You can’t instead you’ll need to side load it.

      • 박호영

Anywizard or build that works with kodi 17 alpha from nitotv?

      • Rowan09

Never tried but a lot of addons aren’t working for Kodi 17 right now but they will be soon.
