Safari View Controller iOS 9.2 beta 1 Action Extensions

Not long after it seeded iOS 9.2 beta 1 to developers, Apple has released iOS 9.2 for public beta testers on its public beta program website. iOS 9.2 is a small update, but as we told you about, it brings some significant new features to iOS 9’s new Safari View Controller for embedded web views.

If you’re already a member of the public beta, or if you’d like to join, simply head over to Apple’s beta website to get started.

To get started with the public beta on your iOS device, you’ll need to log in to the beta program website, and enroll your device, if not already.

Here is the change log for iOS 9.2 beta 1. This change log is for the developer edition of the iOS 9.2 beta, but it should apply to the public beta as well:

iOS 9.2 beta change log

  • SFSafariViewController now supports 3rd party Action Extensions. Any Action Extension that works in Safari will also work in SFSafariViewController.
  • Long tapping the Reload button in Safari View Controller now gives options to Reload Without Content Blockers and Request Desktop Site, like in Safari.
  • iOS 9.2 Beta 1 resolves an issue where WebApps saved to the home screen would not respect the apple-mobile-web-app-status-bar-style meta tag.

Also, here is our video breaking down the new changes for iOS 9.2 thus far:

If you decide to give the public beta a test drive, then please be sure to share your thoughts on it in the comments. We’ve heard that it makes a big difference when it comes to smoothness and frame-rate on the larger Plus-sized iPhones, but we’ve yet to independently confirm that. Your comparative feedback would be much appreciated.

can anyone tell how it is on a older devices like 4s? i mean compared to ios 7.1 or 8.4?

    • Cristian B

Nothing is better than 7.1.2 for the 4S but I hear it’s pretty good on 9.2. I wouldn’t update at all if you’re on iOS 7. Keep it and invest on a newer phone if possible.

      • leart

my 4s was for 9 month on 6.0.1, after that 13-14 month on 7.1.1 and this summer the downgrade method come out and now it is on 6.1.3, amazing speed, battery is almost exactly like it was on 2013 when i purchase it, new in box, but recently im curious how are latest ios on 4s, by the way i have all shsh saved and with Odysseus it is possible to downgrade/upgrade to the non latest version ..

Horrible, your device will lag terribly and your battery won’t last.
Since I upgraded my iPad Air to iOS 9 I don’t even use it anymore, and that device has the A7 64bit processor!

      • Lui

Do a factory reset or full reinstall. Your system may be slow due to the application trashes..

      • Jackson Grong

Factory reset? Haha nice one, this my device, 320 apps with data, all the settings, 25 gb of photos.
I should delete all my data because Apple has to break something that worked perfectly before? No, instead I’ll fly myself to California and shove my laggy iPad up there ass. See if the new one one comes out the other way for free.

        Crazy.. :))))

meh i suspected this, have at work a ipad 2 (probably same specs with iPhone 4S) and since i update it on 8.4 is almost unusable, at the start i had a good feeling but after using it for awhile it started to lag, have strange glitches like wallpaper in vertical, icons on horizontal…
tried on that even iOS 9 public beta, it was terrible, since downgraded to 8.4,,, well we can test our work there buy honestly i get mad every time i use it

      • Jackson Grong

iPad 2 is like… 2011. -.-” it was laggy years ago, the iPad Air has 7x the gpu and cpu. Other than not enough ram(only 1GB), it flys on 8.4, occasionally lagged maybe few times a week, now if can freeze up to 0.2-5 sec. after every laggy animation.
Even on my gf’s iPad Air which has been restored, dose’t change a thing.

Something tells me when this released to the public, the window for 9.0.2 will be closed. Just a hunch

    • Blacklight: Retribution

      It is closed now.

      • Matt

        Damn that was quick

Installed on my iPad mini 1. Update size 1GB. No problems.

Debating whether or not to update my iPhone 6 from 9.1 to 9.2b. I already have the public beta profile installed on my phone, all I have to do now is hit that “Update” button. Anyone here liking 9.2b thus far?

Anyone else getting horrible battery life from the Music App when playing? Was listening to music in my car on the way to work and my battery went from full charge to 50% in less than 2 hours. Checked the Usage and Music was pulling 93% of my battery…

  • Mr_Coldharbour

Anyone getting a grey bar in Spotlight Search in iOS 9.2 beta that didn’t used to be there?

  • Mr_Coldharbour

After no more than 1hr of use, I had to revert back to iOS 9.1. With iOS 9.2 the News app would appear than disappear upon reboot then reappear again upon another reboot. Also that rather annoying grey bar at the bottom of the Spotlight search bar was getting on my nerves. I reported it, but I don’t expect it to get fixed anytime soon. Now I’m back in familiar territory with iOS 9.1. Beta software I know.
