In an interesting move, the folks over at TaiG have released a new version of their iOS 8.4 jailbreak tool for Windows, but have labeled it as a beta. Version 2.3.1 beta incorporates the latest version of Cydia, version 1.1.20, and that’s about all.

According to the change log, no other changes were implemented into the TaiG tool outside of the Cydia update. For such a small change, it’s weird that they’ve labeled it as being a beta, but maybe this will become a new trend going forward until they have enough successful testers to deem it a stable release.

TaiG isn’t recommending that users use the beta version, and instead are pointing the public to its most recent public version of the jailbreak tool—version 2.3.0.

Here is what TaiG is saying about the beta tool:

1. V2.3.1 integrates the latest Cydia 1.1.20.

2. V2.3.1 is a beta version. If not necessary, you can use the previous version to jailbreak.

3. If any problem, please contact us: @TaiG_Jailbreak.

Indeed, it looks as if they’re soliciting feedback from those who use the tool.

Here is the change log for TaiG 2.3.1 beta:

  • Integrate the latest Cydia 1.1.20.

You can download TaiG 2.3.1 beta from our downloads page.

Does this mean that we’ll begin seeing future TaiG releases, even major one for new firmware builds, come out as beta releases initially? That’s yet to be seen, but with this latest revelation, it’s not out of the realm of possibilities.

What do you think?

can someone please code a mac version ?

    • Joshua The-Legend Wiebe

There’s really no point when you can run windows virtually on a mac.

      • J. Rockwell

I totally disagree. We always need very clean, simple one button jailbreaks. Have them come out for both mac, and PC so anybody can enjoy them. The easier it is to jailbreak on both platforms, the more people actually do it. The more people jailbreak the more money devs get for tweaks. The more money raised to devs the better tweaks we end up with in the long run.

I am already jailbroken, but it is obvious that a mac version is needed, and very much welcomed by the jailbreak community.

      • mrgerbik

You can run free windows 10 in bootcamp… Its easy to set up and once up and running youll have a windows machine to access all the time.
Also, windows 8 was only $14 for the first month it released, why ppl didnt take advantage of that offer is beyond me. I bought 3 copies.

      • J. Rockwell

I used parallels to do my jailbreak the first hour it was released.

Still doesn’t change the fact that a mac version is needed. A PC only jailbreak has never been released in the history of jailbreaks. It just always takes a couple weeks.

There are TONS of individuals especially with iPhones who only operate under a OS X / iOS ecosystem. There are also plenty of devot Apple users who would never want to operate windows. I am not surprised by the number of people who want a OS X release.

      • Mr_Coldharbour

I agree with you. There has never been a Windows only jailbreak, in fact it was usually the reverse, Mac users got their jailbreak first then Windows versions followed suit. And also it’s much less friction. Also, it would be in their best interest to get this tool downloaded and used by as many people as possible without any barrier to entry, from a business standpoint. I just don’t understand their rationale at all. If they don’t release a Mac version this time again then they’re missing out on some potential revenue. More number of downloads and installs, better payday from 3K Assistant I suppose.

      • J. Rockwell

        completely agree!

I totally remember when Windows users were the ones demanding a jailbreak. 🙂

Honestly I think what is happening now is that teams are just absolutely rushing to the highest degree to release their jailbreak first. Judging by forums this release was a very early beta, and the public was being used as beta testers. People are running into A LOT of problems, but the updates are making them better. It hurts the entire community if an OS X version isn’t released sooner than later.

We have what 60 days until iOS 9 is released……

      • Mr_Coldharbour

Couldn’t agree more, you’re right. They just want to release something fast to cash out fast and it’s infuriating to be used as guinea pigs, at least give a warning saying that this hasn’t been tested fully so use at your own risk, don’t release it without caring to mention that. Now that they’re releasing beta versions I can’t imagine how unstable those are.
Also, on a side note, have you been noticing a bug with Notification Center where the Today/Tomorrow Summary always reappear after you reboot/respring and you explicitly turned those off or removed them from NC? I’m on iOS 8.3 jailbroken with TaiG v2.3.0. Mind telling if that’s the case? Just go to NC, remove Today/Tomorrow Summary and reboot, then open NC again and see if they reappear?

      • Tyler James Lopez

        I agree with you

      • Mark S

You don’t NEED anything. You want.

      • J. Rockwell

I NEED you to jump off these nuts.

      • Mr_Coldharbour

My 2009 15″ MBP almost fried yesterday when I was running Win10 on VMware Fusion7 whilst in the midst of jailbreaking my iPhone 6 on 8.3. They can be rather hard on your machine especially if you don’t have something from the last 3 years at least. Not everyone’s got the latest and greatest Mac to run a virtual machine free of any hiccups. If I had a more recent Mac which could boot into Win10 on VMware in seconds I wouldn’t mind that much. Of course I’d rather they released a Mac version for every jailbreak because it’s hassle free, just download and run the app, simple. It is without a doubt better for anyone to have an app that can run natively on their OS without having to jump through more hoops.

      • Joshua The-Legend Wiebe

I wasn’t talking using just VMware or Parallels Desktop, I meant bootcamp as well. I know a mac version would be great, but it’s not needed. If it works for A computer, it’s good just the way it is. Also on another note I had a 2007 macbook pro that ran just fine with VMware, so if your mac if overheating, time to get it either cleaned, checked or use a different program.

      • Mr_Coldharbour

I run maintanence checks on it every 2 weeks to make sure it runs fine and no garbage is clogging up its performance. Well, what I failed to mention was that I was booted into an external HDD which ran Mavericks, my main internal HDD is still on Snow Leopard (and I refuse to update on account of how crap OS X has become since Mountain Lion). Only reason why I have Mavericks on an external bootable HDD is because of the lack of support for 10.6.X. That had a virtual machine running within it so probably somewhat responsible. Of course running in Bootcamp would’ve been much more stable and native but it’s just more trouble than it’s worth, at least for me. But you can’t disagree that as of late, jailbreak devs have just been releasing jailbreaks without proper testing and especially with this, which feels like an early/late alpha of the jailbreak tool. Was (quality assurance) has been on a steady decline, no mystery here and hard to disagree.

      • Joshua The-Legend Wiebe

Well, there’s your main problem. An OS should never be used primarily from an external HDD, that’s what the internal HDD is built for. I do however agree with you about Mavericks, it does lack it’s capability on many levels which is why I upgraded to Yosemite; and I urge you to do so as well. Externals just don’t function that well compared to internals which is why they’re ideal for emergency such as backups and yes running an OS but only if the main OS is not functioning, just back up your external and use time machine into your internal, then update. You’ll realize how much better it is!

      • Mr_Coldharbour

I just love the stability of Snow Leopard. I don’t think I’ll ever upgrade, my hardware is just not top notch for today’s standards (Intel Core 2 Duo 2.53GHz, 4GB DDR3 1066MHz RAM, 250GB 5400rpm HDD), the HDD is the main hold-back, if i had a SSD or internal flash I’d have much better performance. This was great back in 2009 but just not now and Yosemite will destroy it, unless I do a clean install which I’m not willing to do, I used to take pleasure in taking my setup apart for the sake of upgrades and maintenance but can’t be bothered anymore. I’ll only use the latest OS when I get a new MBP, which I don’t know when will happen. This one I have will remain with Snow Leopard, I’m just too attached to it. I really only boot into Mavericks when jailbreaks come along otherwise my work/daily driver is SL. I’m a performance nut, thats my only concern, and stability. Don’t care about Hand-Off, Continuity, AirDrop/Play and other features that I’ll never use. But thanks for sharing your opinion with me, good to hear a different take on things.

      • Tyler James Lopez

I tried jailbreaking on a virtual machine already and the machine won’t recognize my device. I have already tried everything

      • Joshua The-Legend Wiebe

Use Parallels Desktop, then Windows XP.

      • Oren

        not working for me.

    • mhchehade

      Their jailbreak, their rules

    • Bugs Bunnay

you can only pray because there ain’t gonna be one for mac.

  • Sam Romeo

literally just jailbroke my iPhone 6, #facepalm

    • iPhoneWINS

    • Merman123

It doesn’t matter. You’re fine. Updates are pushed through Cydia.

    • Joshua The-Legend Wiebe

It’s not wise to jailbreak with beta programs, if you’re already jailbroken, you’re good, just wait for the downloadable update as Merman123 said.

      • Lucus Bendzsa

No reason for a download version and Taig won’t release. This is ONLY to include new Cydia version no new Taig crap.

    • Bugs Bunnay

  • Saif Alhajrii

Is there going to be a mac version? Please someone answer me because i tried to jailbreak with a VM it took me literally 1 whole day and it didnt work at the end.

    • Rigs101

Don’t hold your breath I read somewhere on here that they only have PCs no macs just keep trying

      • Lucus Bendzsa

        Someone make them a GoFundMe

    • mrgerbik

      Doubt it

    • Mr_Coldharbour

It’s looking more and more unlikely for a Mac version sadly. Only Pangu and PP release Mac versions, TaiG never did and probably never will. I’m a Mac user too and jailbroke my iPhone 6 on 8.3 with TaiG v2.3 on my 2009 MBP using VMWare Fusion7 with Windows 10 Insider Preview. It was successful on first try, though it didn’t go entirely smoothly (due to significantly older hardware on my Mac), it hung for a while on 20% and 30% I almost though that it failed but I just stayed with it, then went through more smoothly till the end. Just make sure of these, which you probably already know:

      1) restore your phone completely as a new device (no backup restores) through iTunes. No OTA updates!

      2) turn OFF Find My iPhone, turn OFF location services, turn OFF Passcodes and TouchID, turn ON Airplane Mode

      3) when you plug your phone make sure to tap on “Trust” when prompted on your phone whether or not to trust this machine

      4) make sure your internet connection is stable enough during the jailbreak process

      5) quit all apps and reboot your phone prior to jailbreaking

      6) disable any antivirus software on Windows (if you have any installed, but if on a virtual machine then you needn’t worry)

      7) just be patient, even if it hangs, it hung with me on 20 and 30% but it went through eventually.

      Good luck.

  • Francisco Thrashmetal

I restore to 8.3 and 8.4 and 8.4 to 8.3, my problem is I can’t make Icloud Back Up, not with 8.3, neither with 8.4, I thought was for the Jailbreak, but not, I tried with my iPad air ( no jailbreak ) and neither 🙁 any have the same problem ?? thanks !

    • Joshua The-Legend Wiebe

So.. You’re telling us you upgraded, then downgraded and now you’re having trouble with getting your iCloud backups to restore?

      • Francisco Thrashmetal

…but i don’t know the reason, if is because the ios itself, ….you can backup ? I mean, I tried with the iPad air, with ios 8.4, but I can’t made backups on icloud, the ipad does no have jailbreak, and neither backups: message: ” backup could not be completed ” :/

      • Joshua The-Legend Wiebe

Try backing up via iTunes on the computer, not iCloud, restore, jailbreak then restore from backup

  • Juan Sanchez Ruiz

I have an iphone 5s 8.4 with jailbreak, is it normal that when i try to update an app from phone’s app store, it will be loading forever? I hate that issue, it always happens to me.

    • Lordrootman

Turn off the phone and on it back easy simple fix

      • Juan Sanchez Ruiz

Thanks! i’ve been avoiding jailbreaks because of that! Lol

      • Lordrootman

You’re welcome I hope that will help

  • Adrian

Still makes you use an older version of iTunes lol weak!

    • f96lrs

Up grade ur iTunes drives and it will. Work

      • Fernando Sena Santos

        How do you do that?

  • Tyler James Lopez

I am in desperate need of a Mac version. I have tried jailbreaking using a virtual machine and the virtual machine will not connect my device. I tried restoring my mac and reinstalling the virtual machine but it still won’t work. I have been at it for weeks.

    • Lucus Bendzsa

      Bootcamp works perfect.

  • Mark S

Taig we love you no kidding but take 5 already ok? You don’t have to update the jailbreak every time Saurik sneezes. Cydia has its own method of updating essential elements. Save your strength for 9.0. It’s just confusing the scene at this point.

    • Saif Alhajrii

What happens when Saurik dies?? Will there be no cydia anymore?

      • Chris

I think by that time iOS would be open-source and Apple would have built a new operating system.

  • nfinite

it’s just cydia update, so no need to rejailbreak using 2.3.1..

  • Ryan Gybson

i am having wifi issues ever since i jailbroke my iphone 6+ even after updating to iOS 8.4 and cydia 1.1.20. i cannot install any package on cydia due to the NetDB error and whenever i open cydia and it refreshes, i get the “failed to fetch http//:apt.saurik……..” error. please help
i am also having wifi issues in safari and chrome but everything works fine on my iphone 5 (JB 8.1.3) including cydia
i have tried resetting the network settings but it does not help.
i might have to move back to my iphone 5 or buy an Android! 😐

  • Parth Rawat

I used the TaiG 2.3.1 Beta to install cydia 1.1.20 and every time I try to install something I get “/usr/libexec/cydia/cydo error (2)”
    How can I fix this?

  • waverdr

Wow, that was the quickest easiest jailbreak ever. All done within 15 or so minutes and working perfectly.
Restored phone as new, switched of icloud, passcode, find my iphone, location services and put in Airplane mode. Ran the jailbreak which was blistering fast, then restored from my backup. Ran cydia and loaded my jailbreaks. Freaking easy and quick. Best jailbreak experience yet for me.

  • Michael Sullivan

How about a version that will load with a 64 bit processor for windows
