Sorry, Spotify has my <3 now.

    • Spotify is great (I’m a Spotify Premium user) but it shouldn’t be your only source of music. You effectively lease the music so just because it’s there today it doesn’t mean it’ll be there tomorrow. For example the artist could pull the plug like Taylor Swift did recently…

      • Jamessmooth

Luckily I’m not a Taylor Swift fan but when/if that day comes, I’ll start buying again. At this point there’s no need to.

If you like an artist why not support them by purchasing their music. Not just streaming!

  • Blip dude

Hmm, should’ve waited on Kendrick’s album. I really want Midnight Marauders on Vinyl but if it’s Mastered for iTunes, I can go that route as well. Let’s see what else they have.

If you’re a premium Spotify user you can download music for offline usage and you technically are supporting the artist. But yeah to each their own. Spotify isn’t for everyone. I personally love the Spotify interface and like what they stand for. Not a huge deal of their free service since it scared away some artist (Taylor Swift being one of them). I’ll purchase an album on release date if Spotify doesn’t have it (like Marshall Mathers LP II).

Spotify Premium only exists because of the free tier and they have the stats to prove it. Pretty much all Spotify Premium users, me included, started off as a users of the free service and fell in love with it hence the premium membership.

      • Eikast

The premium membership was the only way to listen to music on mobile devices (iOS/Android). If I’m not mistaken it wasn’t until a year ago that they allowed free users to listen to mobile devices for free with advertisements.

Besides, the free streaming hurts businesses like Spotify. There’s a reason why Apple doesn’t want to offer a free tier of their new music streaming platform.

      • The free streaming might hurt businesses but some money is better than no money at all. If they can make some money off of advertisements versus people going elsewhere to get music then surely it’s better for them to make some money as opposed to no money?

This is where artists like Taylor Swift are wrong. They might not make much money off of streaming services but surely it’s better than making no money at all (she’d earn an estimated $6 million if she’d kept her content online)?

USA only? I don’t think it’s working for me.

    • Most things are USA only or INSERT_COUNTRY_HERE only. It’s called geo-blocking and it sucks.

      • McBobson

        Man that sucks.
