iOS 8 teaser 001

As predicted, Apple has opened up its iOS beta program to the public and is no longer requiring a paid developer account to test new software. Apple debuted the new public program on Thursday along with the third iOS 8.3 beta.

You can sign-up to receive the new beta from the Apple Seed website. It’s as easy as signing in with your Apple ID and then installing the beta software to start using it. To install the beta, you’ll be prompted to download a configuration profile from the AppleSeed website that will open the beta software in iOS’ Software Update feature.

The Apple Seed website is rolling out slowly with the changes. You may not see the iOS beta at this moment.

“When you come across an issue that needs addressing, report it directly to Apple with the built-in Feedback Assistant application,” Apple says.

The public iOS beta follows the public betas of OS X. Apple warns that users back up their devices before installing the software, as it’s in development and not yet stable.

“Before you install beta software, please be sure to back up your Mac using Time Machine or your iOS device with iTunes. The public beta software is still in development, which means some applications and services may not work as expected. You should not install beta software on production or business-critical systems,” Apple writes.

9to5mac reports that if the public beta test goes well, Apple plans to release iOS 9 “Monarch” as a public beta this summer.

The third iOS 8.3 beta on Thursday brings several new features. Most notably, it comes bundled with the Apple Watch app like on iOS 8.2. This will allow users to manage their Apple Watch and pair it with their iPhone. You can check out our hands-on with the app from earlier this week.

Furthermore, chats from people in Messages that are not in your Contacts now include a ‘Report Junk’ link. There’s also a Conversation List Filtering feature which adds a separator tab to the Messages app.

The third beta of iOS 8.3 follows the release of the second beta of iOS 8.3 close to two weeks ago, which brought several new languages to Siri. The first iOS 8.3 beta brought users CarPlay support, new emojis, support for Google 2-step verification, and the beginnings to bring Apple Pay to China.

Do you plan on downloading the beta software?

    I’m on iOS 8.2 iPhone 5S,
Getting the latest beta for sure, still waiting for iOS beta options to appear on site 😉
Also waiting un-patiently for 8.2 jailbreak.

  • Emir Erdoğdu

I’m already in the programi but when I sign in I can only see the mac part Can’t see the ios tab?

  • Cameron Nelms

Will they possibly do iOS 9 betas publicly?
Or just X.x betas like 9.2 or something like that?

    • SMH

      READ THE ARTICLE. CHRIST!

      • iPhoneWINS

        lololololol

      • Cameron Nelms

Whoops. Looks like I read too fast

    • Jeiivy

if everything goes well with iOS 8.3 public beta then apple will do the same with future iOS major update.

  • James M.

I would do this, but it means losing my jailbreak…

    • jalexcarter

Gonna have to lose my jb now or a month from now give or take since you have to update to pair with apple watch. kinda bummed but at the same time happy that my phones battery will go back to being decent. Jb phone battery life is just terrible.

      • h4nd0fg0d

Not sure what iOS or device you’re running, but my iP6 8.1.2 jb has phenomenal battery life. Can’t say the same for 8.1.1, battery was terrible.

      • jalexcarter

Running 8.1.0 on an iPhone 6. Too late to update to 8.1.2 though

    • Preben Faarkrog Hansen

Can i have your JB then 🙂

  • iPodDroid

Definitely signing up. Even though they aren’t any download links available I’m more than happy of waiting for them to show up. Have quite a few devices I test new betas on. ^_^

  • HamptonWalley

They are just trying to sell me the OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 Public Beta, but where is the IOS 8.3 beta 3?

    • iBanks

      Sell you? It’s free.

      • Gregg

        Figure of speech.

  • iPhoneWINS

will the mail app have a select all and delete all mail function?

    • iBanks

Will it? How are we to know just yet? We don’t know what most betas or releases have until we download and install it.

  • JayDee917

Lose my jailbreak for some new emojis?

    No thanks.

  • twitboydk

I dont think anybody has actually seen this. I think we are all being fooled

    • iBanks

It’s not April 1st just yet.

  • Gregg

No, thanks, not until it’s jailbroken and tweaks are updated for it. Just love my jailbreak too much

  • Aaron Gaskill

Nope! Rather not lose my JB for a beta! I’ll wait for the IOS 9 beta if anything!

  • avd98

Can’t find the link… Could someone help me?

  • Jeiivy

whats the point in making this public? and not give us heads up that it will take long for the page to show availability to the iOS public beta, I’ve been refreshing the page every 5mins and n luck.

  • AnArcticMonkey

“The third iOS 8.3 beta on Thursday brings several new features. Most notably, it comes bundled with the Apple Watch app like on iOS 8.2.”

I can barely hold my excitement, what a feature! 😉

  • JayDee917

The amount of people saying they’re installing this beta shows how much iDB has changed over the years. This used to be a site for the jailbreak community, now everyone’s willing to lose a jailbreak for pretty much no new features and a (probably) buggy beta.

    • Jeremy

Well there’s been a lack of jailbreak tweaks lately and there’s no jailbreak for 8.1.3+ at the moment so really there’s not much jailbreak news to cover. But this site covers all news that is Apple related so I don’t see why you’re complaining. 8.3 beta 3 is pretty stable, using it at the moment.

      • JayDee917

You misread what I wrote. I have no problems with iDB’s coverage of Apple news. I was just stating it shows how the visitors have changed. This site started off as a page for the jailbreak community, which it still is. But now it seems many people don’t come here for the JB news anymore as they come for generic Apple news you can find at 9to5mac.

  • GuyBey0ndC00L

Now I could be wrong. It seems to me Apple might be starting new ways to block Jailbreaks (ers) by having tons of iOS betas and minor updates. Again could be wrong.

  • King Of The Clouds

Uhm its not popping up for me?

  • Darran Askew

This isn’t popping for me either in the uk and I’m in the programme for Yosemite

  • Jeiivy

I read in another website that is by invitation only, apple is sending random emails inviting to try out iOS 8.3. Now Apple beta website is down..

  • Jeiivy

    Apple beta website down

  • dpacemaker

It is not a public beta program. It is by invitation only, and it seems the people that were active with the OSX Beta program are Recieving invites.

    • Rhan

I was on the OSX beta (still am) and i’ve not received an invite.

      • dpacemaker

It seems that only the people that were constant contributors got invites. I too was in the OS X Beta, but didn’t send in a lot of reports. Mainly I rarely had issues, so I rarely sent in reports.

  • King Of The Clouds

Jeff its invite only sorry to say guys but yeah we cant get it unless we have an invite..

  • Rodney Coleman

I registered my UDID for $18 got free apps and on iOS 8.3 beta 3… No need to wait anymore.

Still can create a .deb files for movie box and kodi.. No jailbreak needed anymore.

  • King Of The Clouds

    I got it.
Just install beta 2 and update too it it’s easier and it’s the exact same build.

    • MRTEE

How did u install beta 2?

      • Rodney Coleman

Find the beta 2 file. I couldn’t find the beta 3.. So I downloaded the beta 2 and upgraded. But I had to install beta 2 twice on iTunes to get it to work.

      • King Of The Clouds

Just grab the beta 2 file and then upgrade its simple 🙂

      • MRTEE

i thought doing this way requires UDID developers account? I was under impression that you need apple invite to the public beta( which registers your UDID from apple) to be able to instal it without breaking your phone. Pls advise?

      • King Of The Clouds

        Nope i did it!
No problems so far just hold shift and click update and locate the file and boom! your updating to it and then go to the over the air section and update to 8.3 beta 3

  • solidsephiroth

I’m jailbroken on 8.1.2. The only thing that will get me to upgrade is a Quick Compose feature like BiteSMS provides.

  • Unicorn Drank

Is it jailbreakable? If not I’ll pass.

  • Daniel Beecham

8.3 Beta has the apple watch app included???

  • No, thanks. I love my Cydia.

  • Jeiivy

Would someone forward the invite email please @ Jv20arod13@me.com

  • Shams

The iOS public beta is nowhere to be found on the website. It only shows Yosemite beta.

  • Daniel Beecham

i cant see the iOS beta here from Chile, its just for the USA the public beta?

  • Jeiivy

so no one will be so kind of forwarding ios 83 invitation email? if so send it to jv20arod13@me.com.
