CachCleaner Instagram

If you have Ryan Petrich’s beta repo added to Cydia, then you likely saw the presence of a new jailbreak tweak called CacheClearer. The tool, which is available for free, allows users to clear app caches from the Usage section of the stock Settings app. The great thing about CacheClearer is that it feels like a native part of iOS, and not a bolt-on. If you’re looking for a sleek way to manage individual app cache, then you should definitely give CacheClearer a look.

Once you install CacheCleaner, you won’t find any preferences for the tweak in the normal spot in the Settings app. Instead, you’ll find a native-looking entry under the General → Usage → Manage Storage section of the stock Settings app. Once there, tap on the app whose cache you would like to clean, and tap the “Clear App’s Cache” button. Once you do, you’ll need to wait a bit while the Cache is cleared. Depending on how big the app’s cache is, it could take a few seconds.

After the cache is cleared, you’ll be presented with a pop-up box that tells you how much space has been reclaimed by clearing the cache. I cleared Instagram’s cache, and was able to recover about a quarter of a gigabyte of space. Not too shabby.

CacheCleaner Reset

You may have noticed that CacheClearer also adds a new “Reset” button under the Manage Storage section of the Settings app. This reset button basically allows you to reset an app back to default, as if it was just installed.

CacheClearer can be had free of charge from Ryan’s beta repo: http://rpetri.ch/repo and it comes with my recommendation. It’s not only a good way to clean app cache, but it’s a good way to reset apps to factory settings without necessitating an uninstall and reinstall.

What do you think about CacheClearer?

  • Yaboiii

Is it just me or does “cache” sound funny now? Lol

    • Jonathan

      Just you.

      • Marvin

        Haha made My day

      • Alberto Espinal

Hey Jonathan, did you release your theme?

      • Jonathan

Not yet. :/ Finals this week… and my main testing device is in another country with a family member.

      • Alberto Espinal

Ok, how is it going to be named?

      • Jonathan

ReOS, short for Redesigned Operating System.

      • Alberto Espinal

Hey Jonathan can you send me at least a couple of icons, let’s say the phone, messages, etc. To see how they look, but only if you don’t mind our you don’t want people to see the theme before release

  • Cody

This guy is the real MVP, not gonna lie.

    • Cameron Nelms

      *da

  • Chris

Started using it last night, it’s amazing how much data is actually stored behind the scenes as I cleared about 400 MB/s which mostly was consumed by Facebook.

    • Fanboy 

You deleted “400 MB per second” ?!?!?! :O
      lol 😛

      • Chris

        Typo, fixed

      • mike

That would be a bit dangerous

  • Guest

    i’d jailbreak for this only

  • Ahmed Waheed

    i’d jailbreak for this

  • leart

Why apple don’t implement this on ios ??

    • Fanboy 

Because iOS 12, just wait on it

    • Eduardo Robles Unzueta

Because Apple doesn’t care about what you want.

      • leart

This it would be good for apple.
Im fine with the old style, backup, erase all content and settings and restore from backup, the result is a absolutely cache free device.

      • Hot12345

9gag app have this in the app!

      • leart

Why is there any a company that really care for you?

      • Eduardo Robles Unzueta

I’m sure that more than Apple yes.

      • leart

        Give me a name?

      • Eduardo Robles Unzueta

For example, a developer from Android thaught that maybe some people would prefer the location switch before the bluetooth one in the Control Center, and that’s why they allow you to change that because of your preferences. I don’t know why Apple gives you a CC but you can only use the switchs that they want.
That’s not thinking for the consumers.

    • Dan

Because Apple says you don’t need more space (memory) on your phone, or optical disks and more usb ports on your Mac. The future is now and Apple is the dictator =D.

On a serious note, great tweak, and free too!

      • leart

Don’t get it, do you feel apples slave or what?!
I’m very happy with my idevices, if you are not fine in apple ecosystem your free to move to android it’s a free world

      • Eduardo Robles Unzueta

It’s not to be a slave, it’s consumerism.

      • leart

He said that Apple is a dictator, let him to explain what it meant

    • Hot12345

      9gag app have this standard!

  • Martin

Workg really great… At least with this one you know what exactly you are deleting 🙂

  • Macy Palacio

I am not sure if it is just me. I mean, is this a good thing? releasing the cache might save you some space but once you open the apps it will create new cache and it will be just the same. Also, once you cleared cache on an app — it lags, because its re-creating the cache — which will somehow help opening apps faster.

    • Ken

It’s personal preference. Deleting cache will clear up some memory space from the phone and I’d doubt it be the same because the amount of data being used is different in every October. It doesn’t lag as what you might think. it’s re- downloading data. Cache will help the application data to be at a reach but it won’t make the application open faster (safari can be a great example). Safari will open depending on the RAM and will display data depending on the cache, so their is a difference.

  • Macy Palacio

Correct me if I am wrong, but cache on iphone/ipad is one of the advantage why iphone/ipad is faster than android?

    • J™

ya but sometimes u just need to clear up some space

    • Dan

That’s debatable. Sometimes cache is junk for apps you won’t or haven’t used in a while, so why not free up space.

R Petrich developes the most useful tweaks

  • disqus_nYOBdxrWKR

Icon Tool does this and more.

  • Ken

This alleviate the pain of doing fresh reset monthly just to keep the phone’s cache low. And have it running smooth.

  • Joseph Uzilov

is this tweak makes sense if iCleaner Pro is installed? Just curious…

    • Jesse

This tweak is mean’t to be more native to iOS than iCleaner currently if you are an iCleaner user you must go into the app and select what you want to delete. This tweak is in the native settings app, which makes it look cleaner.

  • Ishaan Malhotra

Just the thing i needed! Getting low space alerts everyday!

  • Jesse

Love this tweak. I was going to create a tweak similar to this eventually, I just haven’t had the time to. I have other projects I’ve been working on lately.

  • elvinjoy

nice tweak, but I prefer iCleaner Pro, since it does the same thing plus a lot more features.

  • Anthony Prado

Has anyone found out if this works on iOS 7.X devices? I’m running 7.1.2 and doesn’t seen to work, when I press either the reset app or clear cache nothing happens.

  • 0ʇılouɐɯ

Useless if you use iCleaner Pro, and if you’re JB I guess u use that!!

  • Kudos to Ryan for this!! I was able to gain back so much space, Facebook alone was consuming like 500mb, instagram like 400mb and whastapp about the same.

  • Swapnil

I use iCleaner Pro and it has a lot more configurations you can clear cache from. I recommend giving it try.

    • dtsm

Totally agree: iCleaner Pro is a winner
      But Ryan is THE MAN

  • Parta007

    Now i dont need iCleaner

  • Alberto Espinal

    Cool I’ll be buying it!

    • Jonathan

Really? Thanks! 😀 I’m getting near done, so, in the next few weeks it’ll be released.

    • Jonathan

Hey… still considering ReOS? 😛 I have (at last) finished it.

      • Jonathan

I put spaces between period. Delete those and then it’ll work.

      • Alberto Espinal

Got it, i just clicked on the link without realizing it, thanks! So are you gonna put it in Cydia?

      • Jonathan

Yes! I’m currently in finals, so as soon that’s done, I’ll finish the intro page and release it.

      • Jonathan

It’s submitted! Just waiting for approval.

      • Alberto Espinal

        Cool looking forward to it
