Fantastical 2.2.2 for iPhone (screenshot 002)

Flexibits’ calendar and reminders application, Fantastical, has received a small update today in both iPhone and iPad edition which has brought out an enhanced search feature and the ability to change days in its Today widget on iOS 8.

Moreover, the team has fixed an issue when snoozing Exchange alerts and you’ll also notice that the app now handles latitude and longitude coordinates for event locations better than before.

The search feature is now even smarter than before so instead of typing “birthday” you can just enter “bday” and Fantastical will find a matching entry based on these partial fragments.

To enable Fantastical’s today widget, hit the gear icon in the app’s upper-left corner and choose Today Widget. Here you can selectively enable or disable “Calendar” as well as “Events & Reminders” options that will then show up in the Notification Center.

To add the widget, swipe down from the top of the screen of your iOS device to view Notification Center, scroll to the bottom of the Today view, tap Edit, hit the plus sign next to ”Fantastical” and tap Done.

Fantastical 2.2.2 changelog:

  • Added the ability to change days in the Today widget when only the Events & Reminders option is enabled
  • Search now allows matching partial fragments of titles (e.g. “bday” will find Birthday)
  • Better handling of latitude and longitude coordinates for event locations
  • Fixed an issue when snoozing Exchange alerts
  • Various fixes and improvements

Originally added nearly two months ago, Fantastical’s widget allows you to view your calendar and event list in iOS 8’s Notification Center.

Fully optimized for iOS 8, Fantastical also supports Interactive Notifications allowing you to quickly snooze an alert or complete a reminder from the notification and has a Share sheet extension for quickly creating events or reminders from selected text in other apps that implement iOS 8’s multi-purpose Share menu.

This update is free to existing users.

Grab Fantastical 2 for iPhone for $4.99.

The iPad edition will set you back $9.99.

I bought ‘Calendar for NC’ and so far it does what I need 😐

I love the widget but it sucks my battery life 10-20% more with it on. Not sure why.

Are you sure it’s Fantastical? I have a bunch of calendars and the widget enabled and it typically uses around 1% of the battery. Check battery usage in General Settings, might help to disable background updates for certain apps.

      • QuarterSwede

its the only widget I had used and once I turned it off magically my battery life was restored. It’s the only change I had made.

I try these 3rd party calendars and one consistent issue is they dont seem to update as quickly and universally across the screens of the iphone as the built in app. For example, I tried that sunrise calendar, and it kept not updating changes I made to my calendar on my computer on my iphone, while the built in calendar on the iphone updated instantly.

    How do I do this?

There’s a to switch days when you have the calendar turned off. If the calendar is turned on switches months.

As far as I am aware so far there is nothing, I would love something myself, the only things for messaging so far, is a tweak to hide your messages, eclipse 2 will theme it, and messages+ which is also packaged with intelliscreenx 8 will quick message, but that is it that I know of so far.

Some how, some way Apple will ban this useful feature fantastical like ever other widget.

  • The option to change days is really great. In a way it removes the previous limitation of showing only today’s events.
However there is one thing that bugs me with the Fantastical widget, so I have also been using ‘Calendar for NC’.
You can have only up to 7-8 events showing.

The dev is a very cool and responsive guy and he told me that there is a restriction by Apple regarding the maximum height of any widget. This is why only 8 events can be shown. If you have more, you have to click on “more” and this launched the app.

With Calendar for NC (cydia only) you can view as my events (unlimited) as you want, for up to 365 day ahead, and everything is customizable. You can also choose to open whichever calendar app you want by sliding right on the event. I have set it up to open Fantastical.
