Spotify 4.1 for iOS (iPhone screenshot 002)

Spotify, arguably the most popular subscription-based music streaming service, on Monday refreshed its free iOS client with a few improvements.

In addition to adding Finnish language support that recently appeared in Spotify’s Android client, the updated software now makes it possible to save albums to Your Music, from any album page. Moreover, you can now easily check out album release dates and total play time, too.

To save a whole album to Your Music, hit the new Save button (see below) on the album page. And to access additional information like release year and total play time, simply swipe an album’s header.

Spotify 1.6.0 changelog:

  • New: Save whole albums to Your Music directly from the album page. Check out release year and total play time by swiping the album header.
  • New: Spotify now speaks Finnish.
  • Fictitious: This app was designed by David Hasselhoff.

In related news, Spotify last week rolled out an interactive music map on the web. Dubbed Serendipity and created by artist Kyle McDonald, Serendipity shows when two users are listening to the same song within a tenth of a second of each other.

Download Spotify free in the App Store.

The 31.6-megabyte universal download requires an iPhone, iPod touch and iPad compatible with iOS 6.0 or later.

Spotify is an amazing service, but the app UI for iPhone is still messing me everytime I use the app. It’s beautiful, don’t get me wrong, but the swiping screens are really annoying to me.

I just presed the three dots on the corner and then the save button,

I’m hoping you dont have to have premium to access these saved albums…

    • How entitled are you?

You mean actually paying for the service you are using? Yeah probably not…

        loloololol

    • Of course you do. Even though Spotify allows the saving of music for offline use it’s still riddled with DRM and can only be played within the Spotify app. This is the main reason I will never subscribe to Spotify. I love the free service but I’m not going to rent music that can only be listened to within a Spotify app and that would disappear over night should Spotify disappear…

  • Matheus Lisboa

I already used to save whole albums… I just presed the three dots on the corner and then the save button, i guess they only made it more clear because you still have to use two gestures… What i’d like is that it had a button to save the whole discography, so that i wouldn’t have to add one album at a time

  • Jamessmooth

I LOVE Spotify. The one feature I’d like to see is the ability to shuffle ALL of your saved music/playlists, and not just per album/playlist.

  • Matheus Lisboa

Am I the only one who cracks open with spotify’s change log? Hahah

I read all changelogs with App Store applications at the very least and most of my other applications on my Mac.

Why? Because I spot the times when stuff gets removed or nasty IAPs or something else gets introduced to things that didn’t have them, best when I already paid money for the app.

So yeah, of course I read them and I wish developers would get to the point a little more often.
Changelogs want bullet points, not three sentences around how you squashed a bug. You fixed it? Cool, that’s one bullet point and half a sentence, next!

I have hundreds of apps, 20-30 updates per week, follow the KISS principle with these sorts of things!

Spotify is great, I use it all the time and could never imagine how i’ve been living before without it.
    Unfortunately, Spotify has few bugs:
    – Random crashing for no reason.
    – When I open spotify and click on a song, after few seconds it replays the last song I’ve played the last time.

  • Valinor

Andddddd you still cant see the your music tab on the ipad. Pisses me off. The iphone app has it for more then half a year already. It cant be that hard to implement…….
Yeah i’m allowed to complain. I have a 1 year subscription.

    • Paul Meneshian

i know man, i dont even use the app on my ipad any more cause its sooo long due for a update!

      • Valinor

        Yeah 🙁
Also sucks that you cant use the iphone app on the ipad. Retinapad + spotify iphone app would have been enough for me.

      • Valinor

Well did find a fix for it.
If you have a jailbreak on your ipad, download retinapad.
Go to its settings and put it in sedan mode. You wil get a nice and sharp looking iphone app on your ipad.

  • Toan Nguyen Duc

Is the saved album available offline for free users ?

  • Christian Calgie

Still crashing when I try logging in on ios 8 beta – anyone managed to fix this? (Have tried most obvious things)

  • nonchalont

Spotify or Rdio? Is there a difference?

  • GzyOnline

Awesome! Now where are the albums saved!? Trying to find them in the file system… :-/

  • Xee

    Deezer

  • Bruce Wayne

Is this free or do you have to pay for it?
