Aslock is an interesting new jailbreak tweak that brings new functionality to the swipe-down gesture used to invoke Spotlight search. Along with being able to invoke Spotlight as you normally would, you can now access the App Switcher and lock your device using Spotlight swipe gestures.
It’s the type of tweak that’s a little difficult to explain in writing. With that in mind, we’ve created a video walkthrough so that you can see how the Aslock works in action.
Once you install Aslock, venture to the stock Settings app and find the tweak’s preferences. Inside of the preferences, you’ll find a kill switch, a toggle to immediately trigger the locking action, a trigger length slider, and a toggle for displaying the spotlight search box.
Each of the settings can be mixed, matched, and adjusted to come up with an ideal balance that allows you to retain the normal Spotlight functionality, while enjoying the benefits of two additional actions. It must be said, however, that even if you do come up with an ideal balance, the usefulness of the tweak is still a bit questionable.
If you’re someone with a broken Home button, Sleep button, or both, then I can perhaps see a use for the tweak. Otherwise, it seems to add more complexity to actions that already have dedicated gestures to begin with.
Aslock can be downloaded from Cydia’s BigBoss repo for $0.99. What do you think about it? Have you tried it?
