iH8sn0w confirms his iPhone 4s is jailbroken on iOS 7.1

By , Mar 27, 2014

iOs 7.1 (teaser 001)

Despite our warnings, a number of folks have updated their devices to iOS 7.1 within the last few weeks, and they’ve quickly learned that the update kills the iOS 7 jailbreak. Many have asked us if we think evasi0n7 will be updated to work with the new firmware, but it doesn’t seem very likely.

That doesn’t mean it’s impossible though. Last week, winocm posted a video of his fully jailbroken iPhone 4 running iOS 7.1, and yesterday iH8sn0w one-up him. Amidst a flurry of responses to questions regarding the state of the jailbreak, the hacker confirmed his iPhone 4s is jailbroken on 7.1…

Here’s the referenced tweet:

Unfortunately, reading through iH8sn0w’s feed (and wow, props to him for putting up with what he does), it doesn’t sound like he’s working on a public release. At one point he says “I don’t have any intentions of working on a 7.1/8 jb atm,” and notes that any claims of a public iOS 7.1 jailbreak are false.

Note: we have seen several jailbreak-related scams pop up for iOS 7.1, like this one. Remember if we haven’t reported on it, it hasn’t happened yet.

So for now it would appear that although jailbreaking iOS 7.1 is possible, there are no current plans to release a consumer-friendly version. And to be honest, that’s what we were expecting anyway. Typically hackers like to hold onto their exploits for use in major releases—such as the upcoming iOS 8.

We’ll obviously let you know, though, if this changes.

7.0.6 will continue to be my friend.

    • Waleed

      As 7.0.4 for me :P

  • Clinton Braun

His jailbreak relies on his iBoot exploit which he has said will never be made public.

    • Matheus Lisboa

The iBoot exploit is fake in according to musclenerd

      • ElGreco

        Exact words :
The iBoot (hfs) bug @iH8sn0w talks about is *worthless* for jailbreaks and downgrades. It runs only on a device already jailbroken.

  • Dani Hayes

“Despite our warnings, a number of folks have updated their devices to iOS 7.1…That doesn’t mean it’s impossible though.”

It’ll be jailbroken. The hackers make way too much NOT to do so. I am patiently waiting for it.

    • Willie

Highly doubt they will update to iOS 7.1 because the exploits were patched. It isn’t worth burning exploits which could be used for iOS 8.

      • Dani Hayes

They said the same about 5.1.

      • Palmer Paul

They’ll probably release something once they see that their exploits are patched in the iOS 8 betas (or if not, they’ll release a jailbreak for both 7.1 and 8 at the same time).

      • Jake Raynor

You could just do what they did, find the exploits yourself and jailbreak yourself. But those of us that rely on public jb’s dont have that skill. :P

    • iOS8_Us3r

Not really… Maybe an untehered jailbreak for iOS 7.1 will be available for the iPhone 4 ONLY. Because it will will the last firmware it supports. As for the iPhone 4S or above, Evad3rs would most probably work on an untethered jailbreak for iOS 8.

  • Leonard Wong

I think iOS 7.1 jailbreak will only come after iOS 8 get public release

    • ARX8

      Good point.
But I think it’s never gonna come out. If they can use the same exploit on iOS8 as well, it’s not gonna come out as a separate release

      • Leonard Wong

Probably. But someone might just made one after iOS 8 jailbreak since devices like iPhone 4,iPad 2 will not get iOS 8. At least there will be demand for it

  • Mozaik

    Yiiiiiiiiiiiiippppppppeeeeeeeee!!!!!

  • charliez

Honestly, I love my iPhone and my Jailbreak but with that said…I think the Android scene is SOOOOO much better…This guys give me the impression they are just looking for money & attention directed always to them. The worst thing is people fall for it and always talk about them.

Why say you have a jailbroken 4s on 7.1 ( and who cares about the 4s anyway, low percentage of users ) if not only for teasing & attention whoring?

    • Dani Hayes

Exactly. On Android people share their work to further the process. How come these devs keep it within an inner circle?? My guess are the donations that come with the process.

      • Matheus Lisboa

Simple, android is easily exploitable… Not even fun to find one… Finding one in iOS is hard so they like to hold the ones they got to major releases, they just show it so people will know that it’s possible. Donations is a way of saying thank to the developers after they’ve spent weeks or months looking for a consumer-friendly way to release a jailbreak and you’re not forced to do so, no one sells jailbreak…

      • ARX8

You know, the features we add on our iPhone with an open filesystem and cydia substrate can easily be added on Android. Some are even present on stock OS. In fact, we bring these abilities to iPhone and call them ‘Android-like’

      • Daniel Rodich

When you think Android is better than iOS…Why are you on a website for iOS?

      • ARX8

Because I don’t think Android is better and I am an ardent jailbreaker. I use both OSs and I love both. I’m not biased to either of these. So I’m free to express what I feel. I think what I said is the truth.

      • Jake Raynor

But whats more fun: an easily exploited os or an os that requires effort to exploit? Plus, in the end, it’s more rewarding. But thats just my opinion.

      • ARX8

Yeah. Waiting for many months to get greatest features on iOS (not sarcastic). You know on Android things are pretty easy. Simply root and load crapware. Unlike a jailbroken iOS, there isn’t a failsafe on Android in case the OS stops functioning. You’ll have to flash the stock ROM. On iOS we have the substrate safe mode to boot safely without loading the cydiasubstrate. And there are tons of features on Cydia repos that’d probably not make their way into Android.
While on the Android side you can easily get features you want and loading them is pretty straight forward. Both are good in many aspects.
Personally I love jailbroken iOS because of the complexity

      • Max

Seriously? Google encourages hacking.. That’s the whole reason for the Google Play Edition devices. The difference between the platforms is one is completely locked down and the other is completely open source.

      • Jake Raynor

Yeah and I applaud google for encouraging hacking personalization, but let’s face, Apple discourages iOS modding, and it’s fun the break the rules and go outside the box that regular people don’t usually go outside of. And sometimes when I show my old jail broken ip4 on iOS 7.0.6 to my friends, they’re just amazed because they don’t have the slightest clue how to do what us as Cydia can do, even though it’s quite simple.

    • Sunny

      True!

    • Matheus Lisboa

4s doesn’t have that much of low percentage of users i guess. Maybe you’re thinking in the us, but remember the places where a 5s is about 1500 dollars like Brazil… The 4s, 4 and even the 3gs are pretty present in those countries

  • Mademan

iOS 7.0.6 and not the jailbreak was very buggy and crashes, downgraded to 6.1.3 with iH8sn0w’s ifaith, plus there are more jailbreaks that work on iOS 6 than seven. I will wait for their hard work either 7.1 or iOS 8. Keep up the good work guys.

  • Mademan

iPhone 4S 64 gb, will not upgrade to 5 or 5s, will buy an android before I buy the crapy 5s. The phone and not the iOS of course. Apple has a better OS but the phones are not better, have seen some great androids out there.

    • Rowan09

How is the 5s crappy when it’s better than the 4S? I wouldn’t upgrade if I were you at this point either, but to call the 5s compared to the 4S crappy is interesting.

      • Mademan

I am not saying that the OS is bad it is the make of the phone, the material. And how is the 5s better it has a finger print sensor? or is the the same camera. The 5S really does not have anything on the 4S but LTE service that is not available in most parts of the country yet. And you get 500mbs of that service them you are throttled down to 4G or 3G because even 4G is also not available in every part of the country either.

      • Rowan09

Everything is better besides the screen output. I love the 4S don’t get me wrong but it’s inferior to the 5s in specs and performance wise.

      • Mademan

I love your answers, and yes the technical spec are better even the Samsung 4S has better specs, but again I am stating the material and how the phone was made was generic compared to previous models iPhone 4/4S as a unit not on performance.

      • Rowan09

        Oh ok.

    • Aman12

I have a signed ipsw for 6.1.3 which i made with the iFaith, but i get error(11) in itunes while downgrading.. did you face something similar?

      • Mademan

        Turn anti virus off

      • Aman12

i got rid of that issue, now it comes up with error 37 at the end of the restoring process. any idea?

      • Mademan

Are u using an older version of iTunes, 11.0 is the one u should use.

      • Aman12

11.0.5 to be exact, i tried a different computer.. same problem. error 37 at the end of the restore.

  • Repiuk

Yeah, Would love a JB for 7.1 as I had to restore 4 days ago to fix some serious problems with my phone I lost my JB. :(

    • Waleed

      Which iPhone ?

      • Repiuk

That would be an iPhone 5S 6,2 version.

      • Rowan09

        You could have used SemiRestore.

      • iOS8_Us3r

        It’s only for the Mac.

      • Rowan09

That’s not true it’s for Windows as well

      • Andrew

        Nope, it’s only for windows.

      • Repiuk

Yeah I red about that today. Was not aware of SemiRestore. A shame I did not came across this before.

Anyhow lost my JB for now and will have some more thoughts for the next time I run into a similar situation.

        Thanx for the info.

      • Rowan09

No problem. What are you missing from the jailbreak maybe I can help you with an alternative?

      • Repiuk

Guess there will be no alternative without JB for springtomize 3, forecast, jellylock and quick reply to name just a few.

But if you have let me know.

      • Rowan09

No I don’t know of anything for those additions, just media.

  • Waleed

I’m sure he will not release a Jailbreak for ios 7.1
So at least Kindly Make a Downgrade tool to downgrade to 7.x from 7.1
Alot of us have saved SHSH Blobs.

    • Burge

If you got blobs then you got a i4. You can downgrade .. But it seems you don’t know what your doing .

      • Waleed

Sorry but i have to call you a Big DUMB.
I as well as many people have saved SHSH Blobs for iPhone 5. As suggested by ih8sn0w and others in the past “save your shsh now” it was when 7.0.3 and 7.0.4 were the latest ones. So we did it. We used TINYumbrella to save shsh For iPhone 5. So kindly shur your self. I am not talking about iPhone 4. I have been the owner of A4, A5 and now A6 device. !
        Nuff said!

      • Burge

Then tell me why Cydia doesn’t save them anymore.

      • iH8sn0w

Cydia no longer saves shsh blobs in because of the incomplete 6.0 –> 6.1.2 aptickets situation. saurik does not have the tools to debug the tickets (as mentioned on his blog) and is also my fault for not testing Cydia blobs back then to see this problem.

I don’t blame him for abandoning this feature. If anything it’ll cause less drama and stress. Now its purely the user’s responsibility.

      • Burge

If you are who your name says your are. Congrats on the 7.1 jailbreak for the 4s. But why show what you are not going to let others have..

      • ThePirate

Because he’d be wasting a valuable exploit that can be saved for say iOS 8 jailbreak

      • Tom Brady

        Let him answer for himself.

      • ThePirate

Hey dicklicker he’s said it many times so relax

      • Tom Brady

Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bunk this morning

      • ThePirate

Nah this is how I talk to morons..

      • Tom Brady

Oh my, can I have one more for the road?

      • ThePirate

        I don’t know, can you¿

      • Burge

It’s a permanent jailbreak ih8snow has said that. All 4s jailbroke for life..

      • ARX8

They’re useless on A4+ devices. That may be the reason

      • Burge

I know.. That was my point

      • Mademan

U can save them to your computer using tiny umbrella or iFaith, even the i4 won’t save them any more unless you do it.

      • Burge

        Yes I know..

      • Waleed

ih8sn0w said enuf for you to shut your mouth, or u keep being insulted! U have the least information about jailbreak stuff here! Go get a life !

      • Burge

That’s what I like about this site.. You just don’t know “who” you are talking too..

“Research” is your word of the day..

      • Burge

Ps what’s he said ..? The shsh thing is well known, just load up Cydia it’s in there..
Why didn’t he answer the question I asked him ?

    • Mademan

iFaith, will do the trick. I downgraded from 7.1 to 6.1.3 iPhone 4S 64gb two days ago. It also depends on your device.

      • Waleed

Are you sure it was iPhone 4S that you downgraded ? Because what i think is that 4S (A5 chip) cannot be downgraded from iOS 7 to iOS 6 at all. I am surprised ..

      • Mademan

U r right, it was the iPhone 4 Sorry.

      • andy

Iphone4s won’t downgrade it either, I have got an iPod touch 5th generation at the moment. I had wish to downgrade :p. But nice try though mate

      • Mademan

U r right I did this to an iPhone 4 sorry I do so many I forget they look so similar

  • andy

Honestly i had say instead of releasing a jailbreak for ios 7.1
As many of us has already saved our SHSH Blobs to downgrade from ios 7 to ios 6 to jailbreak or just go back to previous firmware because we don’t like the design. It had be lovely if ih8sn0w could make a downgrade tool.

    • andy

I have been waiting since the public release of ios 7.0 and until now, so i’m hoping patiently there is gonna be a downgrading tool later or sooner available for a5- a6x devices or what so ever just for me to get back to ios 6.

      • ThePirate

That’s never going to happen, I too wish it would but they’re saying exploits for Jailbreaking. If this were iOS 3x then we’d have more downgrade tools I’d imagine but exploits are so hard to come by they need to save them

  • Harald Tan

What about iPod Touch 5 and iPad Mini?

  • Жељко Девић

I am on iPhone4 7.1 tethered jailbreak by @smolk1984 and i am pleased. Stable and funkcional. Stock app (Safary, Mail….) don’t crash like in GeekSn0w ;)

  • Dan

Well hopefully they do release a jailbreak for 7.1. Recently bought an iPhone 5S and it came with 7.0.4.

    • ThePirate

Sadly it’s Not going to happen, they’ve stated many times they’re saving the exploit for future jailbreaks, expect them to concentrate on iOS 8

  • Jonathan

Can someone help me? I used semirestore on my iPod 5 7.0.4 a couple days and everything seemed to work great. until I realzed, I can’t hear Siri. Yes I have feedback set to always, yes I turned the volume up. I can the *beep beep* at the end and everything. Everything works, just not her voice. I switched her voice to another language, like German. I could hear her voice, so the English somehow became corrupt or something. Any suggestions other than a restore? I don’t wanna lose my jailbreak..

  • ARX8

    The most advanced mobile OS?
    Since when?

    • mav3rick

Since latest SSL vulnerability was fixed…

    • ThePirate

You’re right winblows mobile is the most advanced, right? Or fragmented Android?

      • ARX8

Windows phone, erm I hate it. Android has got advanced features. Those are certainly better than apple’s so called features. At user level, Android’s advanced features are far far better than iOS’s.
Apple can do better. They’re holding back.

      • ThePirate

Don’t get me wrong I like both but… Ih8 the lack of updates, apps that crash, freeze and the lack of quality apps like iOS has. A non jailbroke iDevice to me is crap, same with a non rooted Android

      • ARX8

Still a non rooted Android phone has more features than a device running stock iOS. If they un-sandboxed iOS app platform and opened the OS, it would be awesome. Users should be given choices as to which type of OS they want to load on their phone, jailed or open

      • ThePirate

Sure has more features but none are polished like iOS except Google Now and say maps. Long as you can jailbreak, I’ll be happy with iOS and same with Android I gotta be able to root

      • ARX8

Apple ought to concentrate more on hardware advancements because many 2nd tier brands have highly sophisticated hardware and apple is still improving very slowly. Not the samsung way of beefing up number of cores and clock, of course, but the likes of the screen hover sensing and IR motion sensing etc. With features of this sort and an open OS, I’m sure most android users and devs will switch to iOS platform
And since they’re using bigger screens this time, they should use bigger batteries giving better backup. Else it would be lame as the screen will drain the battery in no time

      • ThePirate

Lol Samsung could put 30 cores and still be slower than… It’s not about the number if cores or processors, it’s how your OS uses them.. Battery life is amazing on iPhone 6+ 8hours of screen time

      • ThePirate

I totally agree with you about doing what we want *

      • http://173.58.214.169/ Anthony3595

You mean Windows Phone right? Not Windows Phone… that was years ago.

  • iRy757

Should’ve kept 7.0.4. :/ I feel like I’m having a battery issue with 7.0.6. But oh well, at least I’m jail broken still. :)

  • DopamineAddicted

my jailbroken iphone 5 4G data was not working so i updated to 7.1 and it works perfect so fck a jailbreak

  • VictorMartino

So we’ll have to wait around 8 to 9 months before the next jailbreak? It’s not fair! I bought my iPhone already on 7.1 ='(

  • Chocolope Jailbreakush

I learned a long time ago its never good to upgrade when it comes to iOS. running: 7.0.6 – iPhone 5 (Jailbroken.)

  • sithu win

They also need to update iFaith to support iOS 7.

  • Michael

Ok, no jailbreak for 7.1… I guess the most of you people don’t mind much because you got 4s and newer. Any suggestions for me and my sluggish iPhone 4 32GB which is slower than a turtle with 7.0.4? Should I upgrade, loosing many awesome tweaks but gain some speed (if this is true..)?

ih8sn0w didn’t use the exploit just to show off his jailbreak…through all the controversy and debate with the valuable exploit being burned, ih8sn0w said that it was already patched in the ios 7.1 beta before he released the jailbreak so it wouldn’t have been useful to keep in the future anyways. either way, however i still agree with you on how the ios scene is messed up, everyone works in a closed circle and don’t discuss their findings, which causes miscommunication and everyone blaming each other for burnt exploits, if they were open to one another in the jailbreak community.then most of this would have been prevented and not cause so much hatred that was ultimately directed towards ih8sn0w for doing something that wouldn’t have affected the community in the end since the exploit was already patched.

  • Angelina Hotz

Hi …. Test this site ;)

  • seven one

This is real iOS 7.1 jailbreak?

    • Angelina Hotz

      huh?

  • seven one

jailbreak ios 7.1 :) working on my ipad air with ios 7.1

  • swagkingcole

Well thanks for showing off you stupid cunt. That helps no one.

  • Frank Paul van der Heijde

It’s not fair !!! It’s my IPhone and Apple don’t have the right to tell me which IOS i have to use. It’s my money and i do what i want with my fone M.F !!! Shitt shitt shitt !!!

  • Jake Raynor

So I bought my 5s AFTER the 7.1 scene, and I couldn’t resist, I’m paying nothing for this phone monthly and had no down-payment (love you verizon). But I absolutely hate 7.1.1. Despise it because there is no way to jailbreak it yet (that’s been released). On the other hand, isn’t jailbreak just accessing the root of an iPhone? Well isn’t that what iExplorer does? Correct me if I’m wrong, please!

  • 3astWar3z

Hi guys my 4S is jailbroken at 7.1 but it is really hard and not a 1 click jb so you can do it yourself but its hard :)
