Apple has just released long-expected iOS 7.1 for public consumption, the first major software update to its mobile operating system in nearly six months. As you know, Apple last September gave iOS a substantial visual makeover that inadvertently brought issues like random restarts and crashes.

Apple claims it’s fixed these problems while adding a myriad of user interface refinements and a few new features, including Siri and Touch ID enhancements.

You’ll also appreciate noticeably faster animations and transitions, as well as new accessibility options, performance improvements and more. If you’re jailbroken, do not upgrade to iOS 7.1 – you’ve been warned

iOS 7.1 carries a build number of 11D169b.

Again, people with jailbroken devices should steer away from iOS 7.1 as it kills the evasion jailbreak by patching key kernel exploits.

The update is available for the following iPhone, iPod touch and iPad devices compatible with iOS 7: the iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5, iPhone 4s, iPhone 4, iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display, iPad mini, third and fourth-generation iPad, iPad 2 and fifth-generation iPod touch.

You can also download the firmware files through our Downloads page.

To apply this update OTA, hit Software Update under the General section of iOS Settings or connect your device to iTunes on your Mac or Windows PC. Additional information about the security content of this update is available in this support document.

iOS 7.1 (update prompt 001)

iOS 7.1 fixes a bug that caused the Home screen to crash for some, resulting in random restarts. As a bonus, iPhone 4 owners should enjoy snappier performance after upgrading to iOS 7.1 from one of previous iOS 7 versions.

More importantly, iOS 7.1 includes new Siri features, Touch ID improvements, CarPlay integration and a number of other tweaks and refinements, all listed below.

The company has also released the Apple TV 6.1 software update for the second and third-generation Apple TV. Again, it pays to sit tight for now if you want to keep your Apple TV jailbreak.

We’ve written extensively about iOS 7.1 so don’t be shy, explore our iOS 7.1 archive.

Small new feature in iOS 7.1: When you’re in a message feed and your phone is on silent/vibrate, if you receive a message, it’s a small vibration as opposed to the entire vibration.

  • Matt

Just quick reply. That’s all I want. Is that so hard, apple? (Great video, but you forgot manual Siri mode)

  • Fabio Rodrigues

Why not “folders inside folders”? does it still 9 apps per folder page? this is a waste of space!!! can we send suggestions to apple regarding iOS?

  • Joseph A. Ahmad

Great update, I’ve always hated using my iPhone without reduced animations, but this just makes everything much more snappier.

  • jabohn

It still needs a reboot when changing to the bold font. I just tried it. Also worth mentioning is the bolder keyboard font.

  • onebyone_

New little feature: I noticed that when you slide a little fast the volume and brightness bars they keep sliding, only happens on the control panel not in music app. I like features like this, because they give more personality to the iOS, of course the most important for us is the battey performance whitout crash obviously the stability of the system

  • Batman

The only downside: still no blur for iPad 3!

  • mwpitt52

So glad I did a restore of 7.06 then re jailbreak. Thank you iDB!

  • iPT MSTR

now we need that untethered jailbreak from iBoot

  • reiji017

my ipod 5th gen still crashes even after iOS 7.1 update. It happened
while playing music, my device just stopped and rebooted…i thought the
“random crashes issue” is now fixed?? apparently it’s not…

  • xDB9

I have a 5s on 7.0.4 (updated via OTA). Can I jailbreak by restoring to (iPhone6, 1_7.0.4_11B554a) Ipsw? I’m going to try it tomorrow, but I’d like some feedback. Thanks

    • wahizul

i don’t think you can. Apple no longer sign 7.0.4

    • pegger1

On an a 5s you won’t be able to restore to anything except 7.1.

  • The build number is 11D167 and 11D169 for iPhone 4 GSM

  • Jerwyn Feria

a new dialogue appears when restarting iPhone 5s, which reads ‘Touch ID requires your passcode when iPhone restarts’

This sound like this option was taken from Android Lock XT.

  • Repiuk

Next to the fix of all the annoyances in iOS 7, what made me most exited was the fact they restored the native music app in all it’s glory!

This app now supports again genre shuffle, genius playlist sharing (iCloud) and works just like a charm again. Which enabled me to remove the replacement music apps that I was using since the release op iOS 7.

All in all I’m very content with the update and the speed it provides on my 5S!

  • abdullah575

thank apple updated to iOS 7.1 it is amazing and fast !!!

  • Alex-V

i updated and i not longer look back…7.1 is very good (had jb before)

  • Still no battery percentage for iPod touch? Not upgrading!

  • sn1p3r

With ios 7.1 my iphone 5 is now as fast as when it had ios 6. those slow animations were really annoying.

  • Tom

Can any one show me how looks:
    new iPad wallpapers
    Can’t find it any where…

  • jobcoombz

HEYY!! I found something cool, if you pull up the control center and grab the brightness or volume slider and try to slide it it actually slides across like a slippery floor (this is best best description of it :p) and if it hit the edge it will bounce.

  • Gina Colandrea

my youtube playlist is gone, not happy

    • Adan

      You ARE blonde! 😉
Youtube has now nothing to do with Apple. Just sign in your youtube login and your playlist of LOLcats should be there.

  • Zafar Ishaq

i cant restore with updating…does anyone have a idea how to restore with updating software because i am having problems with my 5s and i need to take the jailbreak off to take it to the apple store

  • Nasriddin Afandi
