Free Space Cam is a $0.99 jailbreak tweak that allows users to keep tabs on the iPhone’s vital statistics while using the stock Camera app. It lets you know how much battery life and free storage space you have for snapping photos. For videos, it will alert you to the amount of available time remaining for your video shoot as well.
Free Space Cam isn’t for everyone, but for those of you who are jailbroken and are tight on space, it may be worth looking into. Have a look inside, as we take Free Space Cam through a brief video walkthrough.
Once installed, you’ll find a new preference panel for Free Space Cam under the stock Settings app. The tweak’s preferences allow you to enable or disable the various vital statistics using toggles. Unfortunately, you must respring whenever applying any of the changes, which is a definite annoyance.
When using Free Space Cam, you’ll notice the statistics overlaid directly on the stock Camera app. Each vital stat can be moved around the screen by means of a simple drag gesture.
At $0.99 on Cydia’s BigBoss repo, Free Space Cam is a tough purchase — unless you are struggling to manage space while shooting video or taking lots of pictures. That is a very niche group to fall into, especially with the amount of storage space that’s available in iOS devices these days. What do you think?
