Mr. Runner 2: The Masks confirmed for April 24

By , Apr 10, 2013

Mr. Runner, in case you aren’t aware of it, is Zing Games’ endless runner with an interesting side-scrolling twist and nice retro-like graphics. People downloaded it over five million times so it has some respectable following out there. Two and a half years later, Zing is set to release a sequel, titled Mr. Runner 2: The Masks.

Exploiting the side-scrolling mechanics further, Mr. Runner 2 adds a bunch of colorful backgrounds that should shine on Retina screens (art direction indeed looks stunning), 32 level across four dream-like worlds worlds with different themes and challenges, plus the new cartoony characters.

I’ll be on the lookout for this one when it hits the App Store on April 24, that’s for sure. By the way, there’s more to this trailer than meets the eye. Read on for the full disclosure…

From YouTube description:

Are you speedy or cautious? You may need to be both!

The mischievous Le Magie has sprung a vile trap and locked your head in a mysterious mask! Hunt down Le Magie through strange and uncharted worlds. Unlock the mask before you forget who you are!

In addition to the aforementioned goodies, developers are also promising simple two touch controls, epic boss fights to test your evasion skills, Game Center support and interactive menus allowing you to explore the castle and meet new characters.

The last feature sounds intriguing – it’s the little touches, stupid!

I’ll just plain admit it: coming from the world of Commodore Amiga and so-called home computing, I’ve always been a big sucker for arcade games with side-scrolling action and tons of coins and power ups to collect.

In Mr. Runner 2: The Masks, there are 54 collectable masks inspired by the gaming culture, including five costumes with special abilities.

And in another homage to a time past, one of the levels will replicate an 80s arcade.

As for the trailer, Zing says there’s a secret code hidden in it which will let yo redeem some cool prizes when Mr. Runner 2: The Masks launches on April 24.
