When you’re looking to make a new iPhone accessory, you generally want to stay away from crowded markets unless you know you have something really special. And that’s exactly what the folks at cellhelment are banking on with its new iPhone case.

There are already thousands of cases available for Apple’s popular handset, but none of them carry guarantees like this one. Meet the cellhelmet, the first and only iPhone 4/4S case that comes with a free year of smartphone insurance…

That’s right, each cellhelmet comes with a guarantee that if your iPhone breaks while in the case, the company will repair or replace it for free. Of course, repairs will require shipping your handset off, but the service is unlimited during your one year of coverage. Replacements, on the other hand, are more rare. They’ll only replace your handset one time, and only if they feel it’s absolutely necessary.

The case is actually fairly thin and is constructed of thermoplastic polyurethane rubber. Cellpig, who is behind the case, describes the material as a hard rubber that won’t stretch or lose its shape. And obviously, if the company is willing to bundle it with a free one-year insurance policy, it’s going to take quite a beating

Even though the cellhelmet is currently just a Kickstarter project, it’s already been funded and is expected to be in production by March 10th. You can pre-order a case by pledging $40 through the Kickstarter site, or wait for it to hit retail stores for $45.

What do you think of the cellhelmet?

This is basically just an insurance policy with a free case. I doubt this thing would protect as well as a Survivor or Otterbox.

    • Thanks so much for the input – we truly appreciate it! And you’re right with your comments – the cellhelmet was not designed to be a brick, like the others mentioned. We kept the cellhelmet slim, sleek and pocketable. We even left the front screen wide open to the air. In other words, you can now experience the iPhone how it should be experienced, without compromising its size and/or screen. Only now you have a safety net of coverage, if the cellhelmet should fail.

Please don’t hesitate with any further questions/comments/concerns. We’re available from 9am – 5pm EST, Monday through Friday, at 412-610-0692 or via contact@cellpig.com and we’d love to field your comments. Thanks again!

      • So this case does not have any screen protection?

      • There is no physical coverage over the screen – we wanted to keep the iPhone completely functional, as it should be. This is what the safety net of coverage is for though, to protect the screen, buttons and all other parts of the device safe, should the cellhelmet fail to do its job. We appreciate your support!

Drumsticks, it’s lighter ,thinner better looking and cheaper than those cases and has a warranty included

  • They ask 50 $ deductible for the repair …. Usualy its a broken screen in those type of case and a screen is around 50 on ebay ……i know its not everyone that can repair is iphone but thats not the point….

If a broken screen costs 50 bucks then youre getting the labour for free without and having it done by a proffesional, and if something else was dinged up too they would fix it, pretty good deal think about it!

  • We really appreciate you input @ericire and I understand your concerns. The good thing is that repairs will all be completed within 3 business days, so you won’t be out a phone for 2-3 weeks. In fact, once the repair/replacement is complete, your device will be overnighted back to your address – at our expense. We took this concern into consideration when building our program with Global Warranty Group and made sure to address it correctly.

As for security concerns, you have no need to worry about that either. Global Warranty Group has been at the top of the industry for the past 10 years, with an A+ ranking from the Better Business Bureau. As you can expect, this is an extremely hard ranking for an insurance administrator to achieve. We are dealing with the best of the best.

We truly appreciate your input and invite you to contact us at anytime via contact@cellpig.com or 412-610-0692 (Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm, EST). We’re always here for you. Thanks again!

I’ve been following this case on kickstarter for a bit, it’s decently priced and the warranty is great. I like how the case is thin but somekind of dock/headphone jack protector would be nice! I’ll be picking one, but
I’m going to wait until my iPhones warranty expires. Keep up the good work cell helmet, great idea! 🙂

  • Love the sock puppeting between “random users” and CellPig.
