Chances are pretty good that you’ve heard about WinZip at some point in your life. The compression utility, which exists on both Windows and Mac OS, has been around since 1991. Wow.

Now it looks like you’ll be able to use WinZip’s software while on the go, as WinZip Computing has just released an [extremely limited] iOS version of its popular app…

Features of WinZip for iOS include:

  • Open Zip files and Zip attachments from email
  • Browse and view Zip files, including multi-file attachments
  • Open encrypted Zip files
  • Copy of the contents of Zip files to the clipboard
  • View Zip file attachments from webmail (Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail, etc)
  • Zipped file types that can be previewed: .txt, .doc, .docx, .xls, .xlsx, .ppt, .pptx, .rtf, .pdf, .key, .numbers, .pages, .htm, .jsp, .bmp, .jpg, .jpeg, .tif, .tiff, .png, .gif

It’s worth noting that you can’t actually access (edit, download photos, etc.) files from within WinZip, and you can’t, in turn, add files to a .zip archive.

But if you’re just in need of a .zip file viewer on your iOS device, you can’t go wrong with one of the most trusted names in the business. You can download the app, which works with both the iPhone and iPad, from the App Store for free.

What do you think about WinZip for iOS?

Winzip sure never heard of “iFile”

    • You, may be, have never heard that some people don’t jailbreak.

      • So what would they be doing on this website lol jk

This website is only for jailbreakers? Show me were it says that on the page… WinZip has been around a hell of a lot longer than iOS and probably longer than some hackers out there. I bet it works great.

lemme add my two cents to this discussion. This is not a jailbreak-only website, but be honest, iDB is heavy on jailbreak content, that’s for sure. You don’t have to jailbreak in order to zip/unzip file on iOS, GoodReader has this function for long long time. WinZip is free, GoodReader isn’t, but zip/unzip/unrar is only one of the array of things GoodReader is capable of.

There are many other non jail break apps that unzip and view files and more. I’ve been using winzip for 15 years or do but can’t see using it over some of the other apps on my phone.

There’s nothing that’s as better than “iFile”. It links to Dropbox account while showing the whole entire library of OS files!

But this will come in very handy for non-jailbreakers or jailbreakers who don’t pay for jailbreak tweaks!

But while we can view and edit some advanced part of the iOS file system with ifile i,m sure WinZip cant so let not compare them both
