Smart Covers are awesome! If you own an iPad 2 then you just absolutely, positively must own a Smart Cover. It’s a stand. It’s a cover. It’s smart. What’s not to like?

We’re not really sure why Apple hasn’t made a similar accessory for the iPhone, but there is a new Kickstarter project that’s proposing an iPhone-optimized Smart Cover with a unique twist.

In fact, the TidyTilt even has one or two tricks up its sleeve. Tricks that mean the project has already met its modest $10,000 goal, raising $47,000 to date.

What exactly is the TidyTilt? In the words of the project’s owners:

“… is an earbud cord wrap, multi-position kickstand, and mount for iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S. TidyTilt takes up less space than any one of these devices – yet does all three things – without adding something extra to carry.”

The addition of the earbud holding capability gives the TidyTilt a feature the official iPad 2 Smart Cover does not boast. And as the promotional video shows, anything that keeps our cables tidy is a good thing!

The cover itself attaches to the iPhone’s rear panel using a magnetic frame that adds minimal size to the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S. You also have the added benefit of meaning of mounting your iPhone on any magnetic surface. Genius!

We’d prefer the TidyTilt more if it was on the front of the iPhone, but we understand the design implications of doing that. Still, this thing looks super cool!

If you’re looking to get one of these little beauties (available in blue, pink, green, or black) then you still have 24 days to make your pledge of $19 or more, with free delivery inside the United States.

    what about the ipod

  • Dan

that seems useless, it won’t even protect the screen

    • My iphone sits in my pocket all day without protection rubbing against keys and whatever else and I have zero scratches on the display.

    • Kok Hean

Trust me, the iPhone does NOT even need a screen protector to begin with. My iPhone 3GS doesn’t have a single scratch on the screen after 2 years. Yes, you read it right, it’s an iPhone 3GS. So if the iPhone 4/4S screen’s so much scratch-resistant than the iPhone 3GS’s, do you really want a case to protect the screen now?

      • Dan

I dunno, I had an iPod touch (first generation) and its screen got scratched pretty bad, always protected my idevice’s screen since. (I use iShield, a little plastic skin)

      • The iPhone 4 isn’t a first generation iPad Touch.

  • iDOnt think its a bad idea..i could probably use something like that as they showed in the kitchen while I’m making dinner or something..for $19?..why not ill go for it

  • Not bad for a little price! Love the way the video started, for a sec you’d think you’re watching an apple ad.

  • Looks to much like the smart cover from Apple. Lets hope Apple doesn’t sue them.

Good idea. Not sure I’d ever need to stick my iPhone to my fridge door. Guess they were covering all basis in the ad. 😉

Good post. May check it out.

  • I like it, and it’s not expensive, which is a good thing for a iOS accessory. I would use it on my desk while working or doing other things, definitely. The problem is I don’t own an iPhone 4S, moreover, I’m on a 3Gs, but then again that’s my problem. 🙂 Positive vote for this!
Now, hopefully they don’t seed a problem with Apple patent infringement since they look exactly as the smart covers.

  • Did anyone else back this? I just got mine in today! They’re awesome!
