Taiwanese publication Digitimes is reporting again today that Apple is planning two iPad models, with the low-end version starting at only $299. Both iPads will reportedly boast the new A6 processor and will be differentiated by their screen resolutions.

Sources from Apple’s supply chain have claimed that there will be two versions of the new iPad, one targeting the high-end segment and the other the mid-range. Digitimes Research believe the two new iPad models will both be equipped the A6 processor with high-end model coming with a high resolution panel (2048×1536) and the mid-tier model featuring the same grade of panel as iPad 2 (1024×768).

In my opinion, it makes more sense for Apple to drop the price of the current iPad 2 to $299 and introduce the next-generation model at $499. The idea of Apple releasing two new iPads at once seems a little ridiculous.

  • That doesn’t make sense apple would never give 2 products only if there the same
    Black and white

  • Is the same as the other iphone… that one of 100$ that I never see -.-

    as with any business decision….

“if it doesn’t make dollars, then it doesn’t make sense”

Yea they will introduce a new 8gb iPad 2, sell that for 299.99 then launch the new 16,32,64gb models of the new iPad 3

    • I think they will just keep the iPad 2 at 16GB. Making an 8GB iPad just seems like a hassle and people will think thats to small of memory for something so big.

Drop the iPad 2 to $299
Release iPad 3 with Retina and some other “game changing” feature to convince people to get the new one over the iPad 2 for $499.

Maybe. Looking at how they launched the iPhone 4 then the 4s as models then they will launch a lower storaged device.

An 8GB iPad 2 is like having a fast computer for gaming with only 2GB of space.

a 8b iPad2 would be ridiculous, after the OS you’d have like 6 gb left. Just enough for about 4 apps, some videos, a magazine or two…

  • Apple wouldn’t release 2 iPads at once. If they do anything it will just be to keep the iPad 2 to be the “lower” end model and release the iPad 3. The only way they would release 2 iPad models at once is if they don’t release one this year and wait till 2013. Even then it seems a little dumb.

Digitimes hasn’t been doing to hot lately with rumors…

  • Nah i think that will sell a 16gb model iPad 2 and have a 32, 64 and a 128GB model iPad 3 for high end users!!

  • it would be very un-apple like for them to do something like that. From all other info I’ve seen about the upcoming ipad release it would make sense to see the current ipad with the current resolution staying at a reduced cost and then the rumored retina display of the ipad 3. If apple can hit that sub $300 mark they could potentially eliminate the rest of the competition thats already struggling.

  • Just thinking.. would the iPad 3 have Siri?

    • I would assume that all future Apple iDevices will come with Siri.

    =D if true

I suspect this being a huge rumor..

they shouldn’t make a6 processors until october because that would make a4 and a5 users will panic

    • Isn’t that what they have already done with the iPad 2 (A5) and the iPhone 4 (A4)?

  • Just drop iPad 2 to 400 and the iPad 1 would be 300 there’s ur 300$ solution and it’s still an amazing tablet

Apple eventually will lower the price. There is tough competition from amazon and other android crap….lol. They can easily take over the market at 2.99 cause is an iPad with a larger screen and a dual camera…
