Hot on the heels of the release of iOS 5.0.1 beta 2 to developers, iOS hacker extraordinaire iH8Sn0w just gave us the heads up on the expiration date of the beta firmware.

According to iH8Sn0w, iOS 5.0.1 beta 2 will expire on December 14th, at 8pm EST. Concretely, this means that you will have to update your firmware before that time, or your device will be completely useless until you restore…

iOS 5.0.1 beta 2 was seeded this morning to developers. We have already confirmed that it can be jailbroken using RedSn0w, which we have demonstrated on video.

  • Right now I’m on 5.0.. R u saying that of I DO NOT update my phone to 5.0.1 within the time period, I will not be able to update my phone to a later firmware without restoring? Also since this is beta (I’m not a developer so I prob need the final release) isn’t it under working? So confused..

    • The ..restore your device before Dec 14th ….is only when the beta runs out and you will have to restore ….don’t worry about being on 5.0…there will be lots of people not updating to 5.0.1 because of the jailbreak for 5.0 ..might not work on 5.0.1 , but who knows…

You do not need to worry if you are on 5.0, you can upgrade to 5.0.1 final when it is released to the public some time in December. The 5.0.1 BETA will expire however, but the 5.0.1 final should be released well before then, or you can restore back to 5.0.

    • So I have to charge my iPhone twice a day and iPad once a day before 5.0.1 will be available to the public in december? Damn, that’s long. This issue is so annoying. And no workaround tricks help 🙁

Except for the battery bug and the Smart Cover issue, whats new?

What it mean by this? Is that mean if i didnt update to IOS 5.0.1 beta 2 my Iphone 3Gs with firmware 4.1 jailbreak cannot be use?

    Sorry a noob here. hehe

    • That means that if you run iOS 5.0.1 beta 2 and that you don’t update to a newer firmware byt December 14, your iPhone will be blocked until you restore it.

Obviously, if you don’t run a beta version of the firmware, you have nothing to worry about.

I’m really confuse with The iOS & firmware. I’m using 4g (factory unlock) not jailbreak with iOS 4.2.1… I’v heard there is a battery prob with iOS 5 that is why I didn’t update it.. Plz request an expert opinion for the update issue…!!! Cheers
