Steve Jobs Takes A Six Months Leave Of Absence From Apple

Sebastien, Jan 14, 2009

Following his message telling he was feeling better a couple of weeks ago, it appears that Steve Jobs doesn’t feel as good as he wants his stockholders to think…

Steve sent this email to Apple’s employees today:

Team,

I am sure all of you saw my letter last week sharing something very personal with the Apple community. Unfortunately, the curiosity over my personal health continues to be a distraction not only for me and my family, but everyone else at Apple as well. In addition, during the past week I have learned that my health-related issues are more complex than I originally thought.

In order to take myself out of the limelight and focus on my health, and to allow everyone at Apple to focus on delivering extraordinary products, I have decided to take a medical leave of absence until the end of June.

I have asked Tim Cook to be responsible for Apple’s day to day operations, and I know he and the rest of the executive management team will do a great job. As CEO, I plan to remain involved in major strategic decisions while I am out. Our board of directors fully supports this plan.

I look forward to seeing all of you this summer.

Steve

Still the same question lingering in my head… Why? Why does Steve keep pretending everything is going to be fine. Steve is dying and it is time to choose a new CEO. Apple needs a smooth CEO transition and now is your last chance, Steve. Tim Cook is obviously the top contender and most competent possible replacement.

Are you kidding me? steve jobs isnt dying, just give him a break

  • Tom

Wow.. you’re either a cold-hearted macfucking dick, or a complete moron – and most likely both at the same time.

I quote: “Why? Why does Steve keep pretending everything is going to be fine. Steve is dying and it is time to choose a new CEO.”

Why is a man pretending everything is going to be fine? BECAUSE HE’S TRYING TO HAVE HOPE! IT’S HIS FUCKING LIFE, YOU SACK OF SHIT!!!!

As much as I am annoyed by Steve’s annoying MacFaggotness – and even more by Apple fanbois like yourself – I would not wish anything but full health and recovery to this man. He’s done a lot for Apple and the tech industry, even though I may be disgusted by it all. But that’s not even the point – he’s a fucking human being trying to survive cancer – and with shit like that, hope can sometimes mean life or death.

Have a fucking heart, you worthless MacFaggot (and this term isn’t meant as a homophobic remark in any sense of the word).

    Dear Tom,

First, you’re completely wrong about me being a macfan. I hate Apple. I love my iPhone. But I hate their computers. I hate the way they do business. I hate everything about Apple but the iPhone. If you read this blog on a regular basis, you’d know that I am no Macboy fan or whatever it’s called.

Now about what you quoted from my post… The “hope” thing is great! Yes good for him if he has hope about his health. I don’t wish him death or anything of the sort. HOWEVER, I’m looking it from the stockholder standpoint. If Jobs was gonna do the right thing for his company, he would step out as CEO and name Tim Cook NOW! That’s where I was going!

This blog is NOT an Apple ass sucking blog! I’m not here to please Apple and suck on their tits. I tell the things as they are! The reality is that Steve IS dying. He is! It’s even a miracle he’s still alive after all he went through. He’s obviously a survivor man, and that’s great for him. But it is time to make the decision!

    Ok,

So I’m wrong – you’re not a mac fanboy – I haven’t read the blog, I don’t have an iPhone. By the way – in my opinion, at least – Apple’s computers are actually quality machines – and most of the shit Apple actually makes is pretty good. And yes, I also hate the way they do business – their marketing strategies, and pretty much everything Apple stands for – and more than anything – their target userbase.

All of this is nice and dandy – but has nothing to do with my freak-out. First, you are not really in a position to know Steve’s current health status. Maybe you’re right – maybe he’s on his deathbed already – but stating it like its a fact is a fallacy. More importantly, you’re coming off as an insensitive prick – whether you actually are or not. The board of directors are more than capable in determining what’s right for Apple, so don’t you worry about that.

Your semi-personal attack on Jobs at a moment when he’s weak isn’t going to be heard as anything but you being a prick. So I don’t know how popular your blog is, or how much of a rep you have to maintain, but I can see many others having a similar, although admittedly somewhat kneejerk reaction.

    Tom,

Steve Jobs health problems are almost of public knowledge now. So I am not assuming anything. I’m just saying what’s going on without beating around the bush.

You’re almost right on something. I’m KIND of a prick. That’s because I say things as they are without worrying about hurting someone’s sensibility.

This blog is not that popular. About 10,000 people a day. I have no reputation to maintain at all, which is why I don’t worry about saying things straight.

You know what? I actually appreciate you coming here and telling me how much of a prick you think I am. For obvious reasons (the insults!), your comments would have been deleted on any other blog. But hey, this is the blog of the free! You can tell whatever you want, within certain limits, and I’ll be more than glad to hear you. You can at least give me this one?

    Thanks for your comments!

    Sebastien

Fair enough – we’re both pricks. I did call you a sack of shit (amongst others) after all ;)

Maybe you should edit the blog name title Steve Jobs Takes A Six Months Leave Of Absence From Apple to something more suited for your blog post you create. I loved the the writing withal.
