ColorBanner: Customize the Color of Notification Center Banners

It finally feels like we're beginning to get into the swing of things as far as jailbreak content goes. We're starting to see a flood of content dedicated to iOS 5, the iPhone 4S, and to a lesser extent, the iPad.

One of the latest iOS 5 tweaks to hit the scene is ColorBanner, a tweak that allows you to customize the background color and font color of your Notification Center Banners...

Flowtation: A Stylized Take on Notification Center

Looking to add a bit more style to Notification Center? If so, then you've come to the right place.

Flowtation is a recently released jailbreak tweak that does just that, adds visual style to the way Notification Center behaves when revealed.

Instead of Notification Center overlapping the current content on your screen, it physically pushes the content out of the way when displayed.

It's not the easiest concept to explain with words, but that's what video is for...

Do Unread Notification Numbers on Your iPhone Drive You Insane?

Our iPhones are constantly demanding our attention with little bings, bongs and flashy lights. Apple's addition of Notification Center in iOS 5 has only heightened the need to keep your iPhone's notifications in check, but just how much so?

I sit here now, looking at an iPhone homescreen with no less than ten, yes ten different little red bubbles telling me there is something I need to do. Something that apparently needs my attention before the world falls into some kind of disorganized chaos that can only result in it falling off its axis.

Or something like that...

CydiaBulletin: Receive Notifications When Cydia Apps Are Updated

Wouldn't it be super swell if you could receive a notification directly in Notification Center when your favoirite jailbreak app or tweak received an update?

Apparently jailbreak developer Ryan Petrich thinks so too. Hence, he has started working on a Notification Center tweak aptly entitled (tentatively at least) CydiaBulletin.

Thankfully, it looks like the days of furiously refreshing Cydia are numbered...

How to Add a Custom Background to Notification Center

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to add your own background image to iOS 5's Notification Center? Well if your device is jailbroken, now you can.

Introducing: Custom NC Background — a jailbreak tweak that allows you to add you own visual style to Notification Center by means of a snapshot from the Camera Roll...

How to Search YouTube From Notification Center

After the deluge of Notification Center tweaks that were made available right after iOS 5's release, the amount of tweaks targeting iOS 5's crown jewel has stymied off significantly.

That's not to say that there are no Notification Center tweaks being made — YouTube Search for Notification Center is evidence that they still are — but since there are less, I tend to put the more recent releases under the microscope a bit more.

With that in mind, how does YouTube Search for Notification Center stack up?

Launch Center: A Beautiful iPhone App For Launching Shortcuts and URL Triggers

Given the fact that Apple recently pulled QuickPick from the App Store, all eyes are on launcher apps for iOS. In case you missed it, QuickPick allowed you to create iOS system shortcuts and add them to Notification Center, thereby mimicking much of the functionality that jailbreakers enjoy.

Apple didn't want such functionality in its App Store for whatever reason, so it pulled QuickPick yesterday. There's another app that worked exactly like QuickPick (only it looked better), but Apple made the developer remove Notification Center integration before it could be made available in the App Store. The app is called Launch Center, and it's still a gorgeous app for launching shortcuts and URL actions on the iPhone.

NCInstaCall: Make Phone Calls Directly From Notification Center

NCInstaCall is a jailbreak widget for iOS 5 that allows you to make phone calls directly from Notification Center; hence, the "NC" in NCInstaCall.

The purpose of the tweak is to allow you to dial your friends from anywhere. The fact that Notification Center is accessible from anywhere in iOS 5 makes this possible.

Take a peek at our video synopsis of NCInstaCall inside...

biteSMS 6.0 Featuring iOS 5 Compatibility Officially Released

It's finally here. After what seemed like an infinite beta test, biteSMS 6.0 has hit Cydia for public download.

With it comes all of the features you've come to know and love, plus a few surprises and UI enhancements. Best of all, it's a free download if you've purchased an older version of biteSMS. Check out our video coverage inside...

Quickpick: Set Shortcuts in Notification Center Without Jailbreaking

Since Apple released iOS 5, users have been running out of reasons to jailbreak their devices. The software update replaced several tweaks and utilities that were only available to jailbreakers in previous versions of iOS.

So, why are people still jailbreaking iOS 5? A major reason is for the ability to customize the Notification Center with widgets and system shortcuts. But you may not even have to jailbreak for that anymore, thanks to a new app called Quickpick.

TubeCenter: Add YouTube to Notification Center

TubeCenter — as its name might allude to — is a tweak that allows you to place a YouTube widget in iOS 5's Notification Center.

The only problem with this tweak, is that it lacked any keyboard support — at least it did during my initial testing.

Once it's updated with the proper keyboard support, fans of YouTube could find this tweak useful. Check out our synopsis inside...

You Can Sort Notifications in iOS 5 By Time of Arrival

OS X Daily reminds us of a helpful tip for displaying push notifications in the iOS 5 Notification Center. By default, iOS 5 displays notifications manually, meaning that they are organized by their associated apps.

For those of us that get tons of notifications throughout the day, it can be better to have things sorted by time of arrival. Changing this setting is actually dead simple.
