Viber 10 is here: a sleek new look, 2x faster, new privacy measures & more

The Rakuten-owned Viber messaging app released a major redesign effort this morning with a unified chat list, an overhauled call screen, additional privacy protections and more. In terms of eye candy, you'll definitely appreciate a bright, light header across the app.

Welcome to Viber 10

Viber 10 has a brand new design with a much sleeker look than before, but that's just the beginning because the app is now a lot faster and safer to use. The Viber service now sends messages 2x faster than ever. Plus, your voice and video calls now sound clearer than before.

Unified tabs, calls and contacts

With just three tabs at the bottom—Chat, Calls and More—replacing Viber's old tabs (Chats, Calls, Contacts, Public and More), the app is no doubt simpler to use than it used to be.

The new organization minimizes tab switching because all your private and group chats, communities and public content are now in the main chat list.

The new Calls list holds your recent calls and your phone contacts in one place, with the Viber Out balance and your subscriptions displayed at the top of the screen.

Hidden-number Chats in Communities

Here's how Viber sells this feature:

As you spend more time in Communities on Viber, you will meet more and more new people who you wish to chat with directly.

Viber 10 includes Hidden-number Chats in Communities – a new, safe way for you to make new friends who share the same passions as you. Start chatting with them on Viber without revealing both sides’ phone numbers, until you both decide to do so.

They have added Hidden-number Chats in Communities in order to "encourage you to spark spontaneous connections" with other community members.

Lastly, developers have officially confirmed in a blog post that group Viber calls with up to five people at the same time are scheduled to arrive "very soon".

Like WhatsApp, iMessage and other major messaging apps, Viber applies end-to-end encryption by default to all of your private and groups chats and voice/video calls.

Pwn20wnd revises unc0ver v3.0.0 pre-release with partial support for iOS 12.0-12.1.2

Hacker and unc0ver lead developer Pwn20wnd added partial support for iOS 12.0-12.1.12 to the unc0ver v3.0.0 pre-release Monday morning, a move that follows closely in the footsteps of Jake James’ rootlessJB 3.0 tool, a rootless SSH-oriented iOS 12 jailbreak for developers; likewise, this doesn’t support A7, A8, or A12 devices.

The hacker notes that there are some significant asterisks here to consider before jumping onboard. Much like rootlessJB 3.0, unc0ver’s preliminary iOS 12 support does not comprise of Cydia or Cydia Substrate as certain jailbreak patches aren’t yet functional.

Unc0ver v2.2.5 released with improvements to the tool’s diagnostics

Hacker and unc0ver lead developer Pwn20wnd pushed a small update to the iOS 11-centric unc0ver jailbreak tool over the weekend, bringing its version number up to 2.2.5.

Citing the changelog on Pwn20wnd’s official GitHub repository, v2.2.5 is a minor update that includes improvements to the jailbreak tool’s built-in diagnostics. More specifically, they now include the log file, a useful thing to have when troubleshooting jailbreak errors:

HeySiri brings untethered ‘Hey Siri’ support to older devices

The latest iPhones and iPads are now so power efficient that you can effectively say “Hey Siri” whenever you want and have instant hands-free access to your virtual assistant; but that’s not the case with some of Apple’s older devices. Those such as the iPhone 5, iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus require that you be tethered to a power source for Hey Siri to work.

Albeit inconvenient, the chips in the aforementioned devices aren’t as power-efficient as those found inside of devices today; consequently, always-on Hey Siri would have an adverse impact on your battery performance. But if battery life is no object to you, then you can forcefully-enable Hey Siri on these handsets with a free jailbreak tweak dubbed HeySiri by iOS developer Julio Verene.

Electra Team says it won’t be long before Sileo becomes the default package manager for Electra
