Proof of concept for iOS 18.0.x bug CVE-2024-44285 released, but seems unlikely to aid jailbreaking

In an interesting bit of news this long holiday weekend, hobbyist hacker @tomitokics took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Friday to share what appears to be a proof of concept (PoC) for a use-after-free bug known as CVE-2024-44285 that Apple first introduced in iOS & iPadOS 18.0 and later patched in iOS & iPadOS 18.1.

Apple on Monday made the predictable move of unsigning the iOS & iPadOS 18.0.1 firmware, just one week after launching the iOS & iPadOS 18.1 software update that introduced some of the very first Apple Intelligence-oriented features to iPhone and iPad users alike.

Apple on Thursday stopped signing iOS & iPadOS 18.0, a move by the Cupertino-based company that will prevent anyone who made the jump to iOS & iPadOS 18.0.1 firmware last week from being able to downgrade to the original iOS & iPadOS 18 release.
