Day 3 of Apple’s 12 Days of Gifts: ‘Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2014’ iBook

We are now on day 3 of Apple’s 12 Days of Gifts event, meaning Apple has removed Tiny Thief and has posted a new free item for download. Today's gift is an iBook called "Lonely Planet's Best in Travel 2014."

For those unfamiliar with Lonely Planet, it's one of the world’s leading travel guide publishers with guidebooks to almost every destination on the planet. And in this iBook, it highlights 10 of its favorite spots...

Apple enables gifting for iBooks in time for the holidays

If digital books are on your Christmas shopping list, then you'll be happy to hear that you can now do at least part of your shopping in Apple's iBookstore. The company has enabled gifting for iBooks just in time for the holidays.

Gifting in the iBookstore works exactly like it does in Apple’s iTunes and App Stores. Once you've chosen the book you’d like to gift, then simply tap on the drop-down arrow next to the price on your Mac, or the Share button in iOS...

Apple re-launches app gifting with a new custom delivery option

The App Store on iOS 5 and below had an interesting feature I really used to love a lot, the ability to send your friends the gift of apps.

You'd just pick a piece of software in the App Store, hit the Gift This App button and Apple would send a nicely formatted email message to a lucky bastard along with a link to download an app, just like that.

With iOS 6, the feature was removed with seemingly no apparent reason. Now, app gifting has been available on desktop iTunes all this time. Fortunately, the company's quietly updated iTunes backend to re-enable app gifting on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices, just in time for the holidays...

Starbucks and Apple launch new (RED) gift card

This is kind of cool: Apple and Starbucks have teamed up to offer the Starbucks iTunes (RED) eGift basket, a joint gift card that offers credit for both Starbucks and iTunes purchases. And, as you might have guessed, the (RED) moniker means that a percentage of the profits made from the eGift basket will go towards AIDS research...

iOS 6 no longer lets you gift apps on iOS devices

It's been widely reported that Apple dropped stock YouTube and Google Maps app in iOS 6. I'm not really sure how nobody noticed this before, but it's been reported that Apple did kill another handy feature: the ability to gift apps.

The removal of the gifting capability affects mobile App Store storefronts running on iPhones, iPads and iPod touches as users can still gift apps using desktop iTunes on a Mac or PC. Apple itself confirmed the change and it's unknown when (or if, for that matter) the feature will return to iOS 6...

Apple Launches 2011 Holiday Gift Guide

"All kinds of gifts for all kinds of lists." That's Apple's motto for its just-launched 2011 Holiday Gift Guide. As it does every year, Apple has put together a helpful page for hot gifts to give during the holidays.

There all kinds of products listed in the collection, including the ever-so-popular iDevices that we are all fond of. Buying from the holiday guide includes some perks...
