Ah, the illustrious Apple rumor mill. It seems like every time the Cupertino company is expected to (even when they're not) announce a new product, the entire web is buzzing with the latest Apple gossip.

Typically, we disregard the articles with titles that begin with "analyst claims." It seems like everyone and their dog has their own "source" inside Apple's never-ending supply chain.

But every once in a while, the tipster is legitimate. Why doesn't it happen very often? Because the people that really do give away information regarding Apple's secret projects go to jail...

Analyst Claims Sprint iPhone Before Christmas

Over the last 6 months, we've been hearing a lot of speculation that Sprint will be the next carrier to offer Apple's popular smartphone. The gossip really kicked up in January when Verizon and Apple announced a partnership.

Sprint's 3G CDMA network is very similar to Verizon's offering, so an iPhone's appearance on the nation's 3rd largest carrier seemed imminent. Since then, we've heard all kinds of rumors suggesting that the iPhone was Sprint-bound. The latest one even pegs it to launch sometime before Christmas...

In anticipation of the iPhone 5 this September, would-be Verizon Wireless customers are holding on to their cash until they have a fifth-generation device to spend their money on, says one industry analyst.

Analyst Says Next iPhone Won’t Be 4G

The notion of the next gen iPhone being a "4G" device has been debated for quite some time. Originally, it was thought to be a possibility that the next iPhone could bring 4G/LTE data speeds, but then Apple made a statement during its last earning's call that 4G would "force a lot of design compromises" that the company "was not willing to make."

A recent update to AT&T's marketing strategy changed the requirements for a device to be labeled "4G," and it was thought that the next iPhone would fall under these requirements. Now, another analyst from BMO Capital is stating that Apple won't release on iPhone with 4G speeds until at least 2012.

Apple Will Call the Next iPhone “4S?”

We've heard iPhone 5, 4G, 4GS, and 4S as possible names for Apple's next gen iPhone. Recently, select develepors started receiving iPhone '4S' prototypes for testing purposes. There's even been some leaked images of what is an alleged iPhone 4S with a slightly larger screen than the iPhone 4.

Following other hints that the next iPhone will be called the "4S," an industry analyst from Jefferies has reported that Apple will indeed call the device the iPhone 4S.
