The eufy Clean X8 Pro robot vacuum keeps your house clean & features AI-based home mapping

Sometimes everyday life keeps you so busy that the thought of coming home to chores might exacerbate your low-energy situation, or at the very least, put you in a bad mood. Fortunately, technology has come a long way to improve our lives in recent years, and that’s one of the reasons why I consider eufy’s Clean X8 Pro robotic vacuum to be an important staple in my home.

Some people might call it laziness, but I call it optimized use of time. I’d rather spend my time being productive than cleaning the house when something so trivial can be automated by the press of a button. There’s certainly no shortage of robotic vacuums on the market today that can fill that void, so why did I choose eufy?

It all comes down to value. Compared to certain other brand names that I won’t mention here, you get more for your money in a eufy robotic vacuum. These machines boast powerful suction, mop & vacuum functions, a base station that auto-empties the crud your vacuum picks up, AI-based home mapping, smartphone-based app controls, and more.

You can get similar features in cheaper brands, but I can tell you from user experience that some of those brands aren’t as easy to use and have awful user experiences. For example, some brands have apps with terrible setup processes and poor interface designs, while others substitute AI-based home mapping with randomized vacuuming patterns, cheap out on suction specs, or come with janky batteries that die mid-clean.

You do pay a little more than the budget Amazon brand when you go with eufy, but your wallet also won’t get hosed as much as it would by investing in something like an iRobot Roomba, which often comes in at double the price of what eufy’s offering.

Features of the eufy Clean X8 Pro

At first glance, the eufy Clean X8 Pro looks like any other robotic vacuum – disk-shaped with the usual sensors all around. But it’s incredibly high-tech and deserving of a look for anyone interested in a robotic vacuum.

Originally, I was using a cheaper robotic vacuum from another brand, and it bumped into all my furniture repetitively with its built-in bumper sensor before detecting that there was something in front of it and turning around to go the other way. One thing I like about the eufy Clean X8 Pro is how it seldom ever touches my furniture because it’s equipped with laser sensors and knows when it approaches something before it ever does.

The eufy Clean X8 Pro uses this laser navigation to map out your home at first use, and you’ll see the app generate a map of your home in real time as this happens. It learns where your walls and furniture are and intelligently avoids them so that you don’t hear the ‘clunk’ of your vacuum running into things and wearing the finishes from them over time. The vacuum’ movements are methodical, elegant, and carefully calculated.

As far as cleaning is concerned, the vacuum does a fantastic job. With dual turbines generating upwards of 4,000 Pascals (Pa) of suction each, the eufy Clean X8 Pro is prepared for both hard floors and carpets. It gets up all the dust, sand, pet hair, crumbs, and anything else that you can think of with ease, and intelligently adjusts its suction power depending on the surface it’s cleaning – less for hard floors and more for carpeted floors.

When finished, the eufy Clean X8 Pro returns to the docking station, which depending on your taste, can be a basic charger or charger and self-emptying station.

I opted for the latter as my previous robotic vacuum didn’t have a self-emptier, which required me to empty it every day that I came home after my day job – an added hassle I didn’t want to deal with. Fortunately, eufy’s self-emptying station is good for 45 days before needing emptying. It takes 2.5L bacteriostatic dust bags that can be had from Amazon or from eufy direct:

We should also mention that the roller brush is self-emptying, so whether you have a pet with long fur or a long-haired individual in the house, any fallen hair isn’t going to get so involved in the roller brush that it gets tangled up. Indeed, the roller brush de-tangles itself of stubborn hair to save you the time and aggravation.

Maybe you need more than just a vacuum? Well, eufy’s Clean X8 Pro includes a mop. The unit offers an attachment that goes on the bottom so that you can simply fill the X8 Pro with water (and perhaps a light cleaning solution) to scrub your hard floors clean of any drippings or residue. It’s great for cleaning up after pets and toddlers.

Controlling eufy Clean X8 Pro with the app

Setting up the eufy Clean X8 Pro is so easy thanks to the dedicated app, which can be had for free from the App Store. You simply follow a few on-screen prompts to hook the vacuum up to your Wi-Fi, make sure the unit sits against a flat wall with enough space around it, check for software updates, and then you’re ready to roll.

The app creates a map of your home on the first launch of the product, which you can then customize to decide where the vacuum does or doesn’t go to clean. You can set up no-go zones so that the vacuum doesn’t go into those places, or you can command the vacuum to go to specifically one spot in the house and clean it good.

The app lets you set cleaning schedules too. I prefer to have the vacuum clean when I’m not home, such as when I’m at work. This way I come home to a clean house every single day without lifting a finger. I can also refer to the app to make sure that the cleaning was successful, see where the vacuum went, and be notified any time there’s an issue, such as an obstruction that prevents the vacuum from leaving the base station.

You can also use the app to share the vacuum with other people, such as family members in your home, so that they too can control the vacuum on a whim. The app provides a fast an easy way to command the vacuum to the charging base, to force the vacuum to self-empty, or to start or stop a vacuum process. You can, of course, update firmware here or order supplies too.

My thoughts on the eufy Clean X8 Pro

I’ve been using a eufy Clean X8 Pro for a while now, and it cleans circles over the Amazon budget brands. Some of the things I like about it are that it’s relatively hands-free, extremely quiet, cleans the house quickly due to intelligent mapping, and that it keeps my house clean without any effort on my part.

As a true set-it-and-forget-it device, I would generally recommend that most families at least consider the idea of a robotic vacuum in the home, even if it isn’t a eufy device, but I will say that the eufy Clean X8 Pro streamlines the entire process of use from setup to scheduled cleans.

One thing to keep in mind is that the eufy Clean X8 Pro comes in two configurations: the first sporting a regular charging station, and the second having a self-emptying and charging station. While I recommend the self-emptying station, it does add to the price and could be cost-prohibitive for some. Even if you get the cheaper regular charging station model, I think it’s totally worth it compared to vacuuming the old-fashioned way.

During my use of the eufy Clean X8 Pro, I’ve compiled a list of pros and cons that might be helpful for those on the fence:

Pros:

  • Extremely good value for the price
  • Available in ordinary or self-emptying models
  • Quiet, but powerful suction
  • Intelligent hard floor & carpet suction modes
  • Vacuum doubles as a mop with attachment
  • True AI-driven home mapping
  • Laser-guided obstacle avoidance system
  • App-controlled unit with daily scheduling
  • Battery lasts long enough to clean your home
  • Roller brush avoids hair tangles
  • Ability to share with family members

Cons:

  • Requires decent amount of space around the base station
  • No HomeKit or Matter support as of yet (could be coming soon)
  • Self-emptying base station requires bags that you must purchase over and over

Where to get one

If you’re interested in getting a eufy X8 Pro for your home so that you have fewer chores to take care of day after day, then we strongly recommend heading over to Amazon where you can normally find the self-emptying version for $650 and the regular version for $500. The two are currently on sale post-Cyber Monday too! The self-emptying version is currently $450, while the regular version is just $350. Grab them at this steal while you can!

A six-pack of dust bags for the self-emptying station will run you $40, but the good news is that you can get 2 bags for free by using a special promo in the app after purchasing the vacuum for the first time. These dust bags aren’t necessary if you get the non-self-emptying model.

Note: Purchases made on this page help support iDB. We may earn a small commission when you purchase through links on our site.

You can also pick up a eufy X8 Pro from eufy’s website, but without the benefit of fast Prime shipping.

Conclusion

If you’re interested in a robotic vacuum for your home, then there are lots of places you could turn. I recommend checking out the eufy X8 Pro because of the amazing balance of value and performance afforded by this incredible little machine.

Of all the things that you could be doing after getting home from a long day at work or studying, vacuuming is probably the last thing you want to do. So let technology automate the process for you.
