Winter is coming… just even farther in the future, about eight generations actually. The Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, is making a huge, fiery splash on HBO. With what some estimate to be the most watched season premier on the streaming service, HBO’s servers buckled under the pressure as would-be viewers attempted to access the show. After the season 1 premier was viewed in epic proportions, HBO quickly announced House of the Dragon is renewed for a second season. To fan the flames, you can actually view the entire first episode for free on YouTube. The series is set to follow the house of Targaryen, known for their dragons and non-branching family tree.
We find an age of peace, but signs of war are on the horizon. Episode 1 captures the bloody nature of the Game of Thrones reputation and doubles down on the importance of legacy, heirs, and protecting familial access to the throne. The series starts with dragons being a key part of the story, instead of waiting to introduce them like the previous series.
