Zebra 2 will completely redesign the popular package manager with user-friendly formatting, search features, and an iPadOS overhaul

Hot off the heels of the Odyssey Team’s teaser announcement showcasing the upcoming Cheyote jailbreak tool user interface for iOS & iPadOS 15.0-15.1.1, another important announcement comes by way of the Zebra Team, who will be pushing a major overhaul of the popular alternative package manager app Zebra in the near future.

Dubbed Zebra 2, this enhanced package manager app is going to be a completely redesigned from the ground-up, with the primary initiative being to condense the Feature page layout to make navigation easier and more user-friendly.

This refined iteration of the Zebra package manager will also bring a plethora of improvements for the iPad, which means it will make full use of the new sidebar format seen in several modern iPad apps. With this aesthetic change, Zebra 2 will feel more like a native app rather than something installed from a third-party source.

Other particularly captivating features to look out for in Zebra 2 as it matures include:

  • Canonical Search: A more intelligent search function that provides relevant search results based on where in the app the query was first initiated.
  • Flow Installer: A more detailed installer interface that provides a more concise information display about what’s being installed.
  • Dependency Tree in the Queue: When queuing add-ones for install, the queue will now go the extra mile to show which packages dependencies belong to, so you have a better idea of what requires what.

Here are some iPad interface teasers for those of you who are using iPadOS instead of iOS:

Zebra 2 is not currently available to the masses as development continues, however iDownloadBlog was informed internally that many of these new features will roll out in smaller beta updates leading up to the official Zebra 2 release that will incorporate some of these features.

The goal of this staggered feature release is to continuously refine the aforementioned features until the Zebra Team dubs them complete, and it also gives users something to play around with in the meantime instead of waiting around for a single major release.

Zebra 2 is expected to be fully compatible with the Odyssey Team’s upcoming rootless Cheyote jailbreak tool for iOS & iPadOS 15.0-15.1.1, which is a plus given the major changes in the rootless jailbreak dynamic that will require many jailbreak tweaks to be updated or re-created to support it.

iDB will continue to monitor changes in the Zebra Team’s release schedule to keep our readers apprised of everything to come.
