Have you been wondering what a pair of gold-plated AirPods Max headphones would cost? If so, the Russian luxury and modification company Caviar knows the answer to that question.
Their modified headphones come in beautiful white and black color options. Caviar’s custom AirPods Max rock a pair of gold-plated ear cups, along with the stainless steel headband frame covered in gold, and use white crocodile leather instead of Apple’s knit mesh canopy.
Make no mistake about it, this is about vanity and the need to be seen wearing such a prohibitively expensive accessory. Caviar describes their AirPods Max modification as looking elegant and “emphasizing the status of the owners and their impeccable taste.”
According to Caviar:
The Airpods Max Golden White are the luxury version of Apple’s loudest new release. Brilliant high pure sound from Caviar jewelers. This precious accessory is made of 750 gold and white crocodile leather. It is impossible to look away from this innovative and splendid device created for those who value their uniqueness and want to always be on top.
Don’t have $108,000 lying around somewhere?
Perhaps you’d like to burn your hard-earned cash on Caviar’s limited-edition iPhone 12 Pro “Musk be on Mars” models. Costing almost $5,000, these modified iPhones come with a custom backplate featuring a SpaceX Dragon spacecraft graphic. If you’ve never heard of Caviar, they’ve long been selling their exquisite, gold-plated, outrageously expensive iPhone modifications to rappers, movie stars and other niche but highly lucrative market segments.
Such mods remind me of the original Apple Watch Edition models that cost north of $10,000.
While celebrities proudly showed off their golden Apple Watch Edition models, Apple’s motives behind the Edition have never made much sense to me as the hardware inevitably got outdated after just one year. In terms of their AirPods Max modification, what you’re really paying for here is exclusivity — as per Caviar, each colorway will be offered “in a single piece worldwide”.
