Rename Bluetooth devices via your pwned iPhone with BTDeviceRenamer

One of the great ways you can amplify your iPhone’s user experience is through the extension of Bluetooth accessories, including but not limited to headphones and/or speakers. But have you ever tried to pair your newly acquired Bluetooth device only to find that it had an odd or unappealing name in the Bluetooth list?

If you answered yes to the question above and have a hard time distinguishing between one device from the next, then we’d like to recommend an excellent new and free jailbreak tweak dubbed BTDeviceRenamer by iOS developer Tr1fecta. Just as the name implies, this tweak lets you rename virtually any Bluetooth device that you’ve paired with your jailbroken iPhone or iPad.

Upon installing BTDeviceRenamer, users can visit the Bluetooth preference pane in their handset’s Settings app and select a paired Bluetooth device from the list by tapping on the “i” button to the right of the name. After doing that, users will then be able to tap on a new Rename Device button and be prompted for what they’d like to call their Bluetooth device:

You can enter literally any name you want into the text field, and once satisfied, you’d simply tap on the Submit button to save the new name. If you do, then the new name will begin appearing the available Bluetooth device list like so:

So what are the caveats to using BTDeviceRenamer? Right off the bat, it should be noted that the user-applied device name only appears on the jailbroken device that you’ve installed the BTDeviceRenamer tweak on. If you attempt to pair that same Bluetooth device with another non-jailbroken device, then it will continue displaying its original factory name.

It’s a small caveat, but a notable one, as some might be inclined to think that this tweak can rename a Bluetooth device for all paired handsets across the board. This isn’t the case at all.

Still, this caveat shouldn’t detract from the tweak’s usefulness. If you pair a lot of Bluetooth accessories to your iPhone and can’t remember which one is which because of their odd names, then BTDeviceRenamer is a wonderful way to make sense of each individual connected device in your Bluetooth device list. In addition to that, it simply makes things more aesthetically pleasing.

Those interested in trying BTDeviceRenamer can download the tweak for free from Tr1fecta’s personal repository via their favorite package manager. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS 13 devices.
