Augment your iPhone’s AirPods animation with AnimPods

Apple’s iPhones and iPads display an exclusive animation when pairing a set of AirPods with the device, but after the pairing process is complete, day-to-day usage gets somewhat less exciting due to the lack of captivating animations.

Here to change that is a new jailbreak tweak release called AnimPods by iOS developer Lefteris Karkaletsis, which as the name implies, brings a sleeker and more mesmerizing animation to AirPods users during day-to-day usage.

After you’ve installed AnimPods, you can grab your AirPods and open the case to experience the tweak. You’ll notice that the tweak plays a subtle ‘dinging’ sound and that it combines the standard AirPods open-case animation with the first-time pairing animation. Both the sound and the animation loop will repeat every eight seconds until the AirPods case is closed.

This is an improvement over the default implementation, not only because it looks nicer, but also because the continuous sound reminds you to close your AirPods case and prevents it from being left open.

As the Cydia depiction notes, AnimPods replaces a system file to make this work. Users needn’t fear messing up their device, however, because the tweak restores the original file whenever it is uninstalled via Cydia.

One small caveat, however, is that the tweak is only confirmed to work with Apple’s first-generation AirPods. That said, it’s unknown if this will work with Apple’s second-generation AirPods, and it almost certainly won’t have an impact on any other Bluetooth headphones on the market.

Assuming you meet the criteria and you want to try AnimPods, you’ll find the tweak in Cydia’s Packix repository for just $0.69. The tweak doesn’t come with any options to configure and should play nicely with all jailbroken iOS 11 and 12 devices.
