By Cody Lee on May 14, 2012

Earlier today, the hacker noted that the jailbreak should be available within the next couple of weeks. And that certainly seems to be the case, as he’s bound to be running out of devices to test it on… Read More

By Cody Lee on May 10, 2012

Pod2g has just made another big announcement regarding his progress on the iOS 5.1 jailbreak. A few moments ago, the hacker tweeted that he had jailbroken [untethered] a third-generation iPad running iOS 5.1.

Love him or hate him, i0n1c has skills

By Jeff Benjamin on May 7, 2012

Love him or hate him, i0n1c has skills. Want proof? A little over a half an hour ago he showcased his new iPad (iPad 3) running Cydia on iOS 5.1.1. Said firmware was just released. I understand that this is a result of being able to jailbreak 5.1, but the fact still stands that he has the talent that the jailbreak community could benefit from.

As you’re probably well aware of, i0n1c has an interesting relationship with the jailbreak community. On one hand, he’s a clearly talented hacker that can solve some of the most perplexing issues regarding iOS jailbreaking.

On the other hand, he continues to spite the community with rants about piracy, money, and an overall disdain towards jailbreaking in general… Read More

By Cody Lee on Apr 30, 2012

We’ve just received a major update on the status of the iOS 5.1 jailbreak. Pod2g just tweeted that he had “a productive weekend,” reportedly finding “2 big vulnerabilities. 1 kernel land and 1 root land.”

The news comes just 5 days after the hacker posted a poll on his personal website, asking jailbreakers if hackers should continue work on an iOS 5.1 jailbreak or hold off until Apple seeds iOS 6… Read More

Status update on the iOS 5.1 jailbreak

By Cody Lee on Apr 24, 2012

We’ve had a lot of folks asking us what the status is on the iOS 5.1 jailbreak, so we figured we’d give you guys an update with the latest info. As usual, pod2g has given us some insight into the progress of the hackers via a recent string of tweets.

The good news is that they have managed to bypass the ASLR (Address Space layout randomization) already. The complicated security measure could’ve taken much longer. The bad news is that a public jailbreak still seems to be a ways out… Read More

How to unlock any jailbroken iPhone on iOS 5.0 or later on any baseband [Video]

By Jeff Benjamin on Apr 22, 2012

Unlocking the iPhone 4S, and the iPhone 4 just got a whole lot easier thanks to the SAM package unlock revealed earlier this morning.

After alerting you guys to the news, we went into out labs and started testing this for ourselves. After a few failures, we were finally able to come up with a reliable method for making this work every time.

The good news is that this will likely become even easier as time goes on, and needless steps are eliminated. We’re already to the point where we can switch back and forth between our AT&T SIM card and our T-Mobile SIM card without having to reconfigure anything. It’s pretty awesome.

Check inside for our full tutorial that shows how to unlock any iPhone on iOS 5 or higher (running any baseband) using the SAM jailbreak package… Read More

Hackers starting to make progress with iOS 5.1 jailbreak

By Cody Lee on Apr 18, 2012

We haven’t really heard much on the jailbreak front since iOS 5.1 came out. The software update patched all previous exploits, meaning anyone who upgraded, lost their ability to jailbreak (well, A4 devices can still be jailbroken).

But we have good news today for the folks that have updated their devices to 5.1. Pod2g, who was largely responsible for Absinthe and Corona, says that he now has all of the exploits necessary to start working on a new jailbreak… Read More

pod2g gives us a status update on iOS 5.1 jailbreak

By Cody Lee on Mar 30, 2012

When iOS 5.1 launched alongside Apple’s new iPad earlier this month, we saw three different jailbreak methods quickly surface. But it seems like the trail has since gone cold, as we haven’t heard any news on the jailbreak front in the past couple of weeks.

That, however, changed this morning, as infamous iOS hacker pod2g finally gave us an update regarding the status of the iOS 5.1 jailbreak. And just as we expected, it looks like it’s going to be a while before we see a public release… Read More

The new iPad has already been jailbroken

By Cody Lee on Mar 16, 2012

Well, that didn’t take long. The new iPad hasn’t even been on sale for a full 12 hours yet, and it’s already been jailbroken. We mentioned yesterday that Apple’s latest tablet might be susceptible to previous jailbreak methods. And it looks like we were right.

MuscleNerd, a trusted member of the Dev Team, just tweeted out pics of his late-generation iPad hacked, and running Cydia 1.1.5. It’s hard to see in the screenshot (above), but the software labels his device as an iPad 3,3, running iOS 5.1… Read More

How to install iPhoto and iMovie on iOS 5.0.1

By Jeff Benjamin on Mar 13, 2012

iPhoto was the big new app release that Apple touted at its new iPad media event, but the bad news is that it requires iOS 5.1.

For those of us with jailbroken iPhone 4S’ and iPad 2′s, this places us in an interesting predicament.

Since there is no way to jailbreak iOS 5.1 on these devices, updating now would not only prevent us from jailbreaking, but it would also prevent us from downgrading back to iOS 5.0.1 now that Apple has closed the signing window for that firmware.

So, what to do? Fortunately, there’s an easy workaround to this problem, and we’re going to walk you through the process on video… Read More

Apple credits “2012 iOS Jailbreak Dream Team” for kernel exploit

As most of you know, Apple patched the exploits used in both the Corona and Absinthe jailbreak tools in the software update. And apparently, it’s aware of exactly who is responsible for creating them… Read More

Sn0wBreeze v2.9.2 released to jailbreak iOS 5.1 on Windows

By Jeff Benjamin on Mar 10, 2012

Hot off the heels of Thursday’s RedSn0w iOS 5.1 compatibility update comes Sn0wBreeze v2.9.2, which makes the popular Windows jailbreak tool compatible with iOS 5.1.

If you’re familiar with previous iterations of Sn0wBreeze, then you’re not going to find any surprises here. It’s still about creating a custom IPSW and restoring via iTunes to accomplish the jailbreak.

This updated for Sn0wBreeze is compatible with A4 devices and below, and is of course, a tethered jailbreak. Check out more details inside… Read More

Apple has stopped signing iOS 5.0.1

By Cody Lee on Mar 9, 2012

If your iOS device (or devices) is jailbroken, we hope you heeded our warnings not to update to iOS 5.1. As expected, the latest software update for Apple’s mobile OS breaks both the Corona untether and the Absinthe exploit in one fell swoop.

Even though Apple released iOS 5.1 on Wednesday, alongside the announcement of its new iPad, it continued to sign 5.0.1 firmware over the last 48 hours or so. Well, now it looks like that window has closed… Read More

Heed the warnings from the iPhone Dev Team regarding jailbreaking

We’ve heard so many sad stories in the past about ones who accidentally lost their jailbreak, or thought they could go back to a previous firmware when they couldn’t.

As jailbreak aficionados that truly saddens us. Hence, whenever we can help get out a warning, we’re all about it.

How to jailbreak iOS 5.1 with Redsn0w 0.9.10b6

By Jeff Benjamin on Mar 8, 2012

iOS 5.1 has finally dropped, and for the most part we totally recommend staying away from the update if you care anything about your jailbreak, as does the iPhone Dev Team.

That being said, for those with older A4 devices, it is possible to enjoy a tethered jailbreak on iOS 5.1 and still downgrade back to previous firmwares if you have your SHSH blobs for those firmwares.

With A5 devices like the iPad 2, and the iPhone 4S, it is impossible at the moment to downgrade to any older iOS 5.x firmware, even if you have your SHSH blobs saved. So don’t upgrade to 5.1, especially if you care about your iPhone 4S jailbreak.

If you have an iPhone 4, iPod touch, iPhone 3GS, or original iPad, then check inside for a tutorial on how to perform a tethered jailbreak on iOS 5.1… Read More

Jailbreakers beware of iOS 5.1

By Sebastien Page on Mar 7, 2012

With today’s announcement, we’re pretty sure that iOS 5.1 will be right around the corner, with a probable release of the Gold Master sometimes this week.
