Jailbreak iPhone 6 Plus iOS 8.4

It’s been more than 2 months since Apple killed the iOS 9.0.x jailbreak, and in that time we’ve seen the public release of iOS 9.1, 9.2, and a beta version of 9.2.1, with no update to the Pangu tool. So as you can imagine, we’ve received a lot of questions regarding the current status of the jailbreak. Here is what we know so far.

For a little context, Apple released iOS 9 on September 16. That was quickly followed by iOS 9.0.1 and 9.0.2 later in the month, with significant bug and security fixes. The iOS 9 jailbreak landed on October 13, courtesy of the talented Pangu Team, and it was compatible with all versions of iOS 9 we had seen up until that point.

Pangu’s jailbreak tool was officially broken by Apple on October 21, with the release of iOS 9.1, which patched several security exploits used by the team of hackers. Thus, 9.0.2 is the latest version of iOS that’s eligible to be jailbroken, and Apple has long stopped signing the software, meaning you can’t up/downgrade to it.

We’ve heard that both Pangu and TaiG are working on jailbreak tools for the latest public version of iOS, which is 9.2. In fact, a recent report pointed to a Weibo post by TaiG partner 3K Assistant which indicated their tool is nearly complete. Unfortunately, that’s all we’ve heard—we have no knowledge of an exact release date.

What now? Now we sit and wait. The aforementioned teams aren’t much for status updates, and they have been extremely sporadic with recent releases. An iOS 9.2 jailbreak could literally come at anytime. So for those of you anxiously awaiting its arrival, be sure to stay tuned to iDB, because as soon as we know more, you’ll know.

Should you update to iOS 9.2?

It really depends on your situation. Obviously, if you are on iOS 9.0.x and are either enjoying a jailbreak or still considering it, you should stay put. If you’re on iOS 9.1, that’s a tougher call, because although it’s extremely unlikely we’ll see an iOS 9.1-only jailbreak, it’s possible. For what it’s worth, if I were on 9.1, I would update.

    Impatiently Waiting…

    Happy New Year for y’all!

    • Antzboogie

Me too bro thanks!! Same to you!!

  • Vinnie

But I want it now! 😉

  • Shakur Ali

So do we stay on 9.1 or update to 9.2 let us know plz

    • James G

Update to iOS 9.2. They won’t release a jailbreak for a non-current firmware which no one can downgrade to. If you aren’t jailbroken, you should be on 9.2.

      • TheShade247

I got a feeling that they will wait for 9.2.1 as its in beta, cause most likely apple will patch those exploits.

      • James G

Depends on when the JB is released with proximity to a release of 9.2.1. Apple would likely push 9.2.1 if it was close to release without applying a patch to the JB and then 9.2.2 would close any remaining loopholes. This has happened before, if I recall correctly.

      • Shakur Ali

        Thank’s for the info

      • Bacel Liviu

they always release a JB for the current IOS so in case you’re phone doesent starts becouse of you’re JB you can restore it and try again

    • jalexcarter

definitely update to 9.2 there’s no reason to stay on 9.1

      • Shakur Ali

    • ravinigga

Go upgrade to 9.2 as stated they are working on 9.2 and 9.2 is also very stable almost bugsfree (for me)

  • TheShade247

Where is Pod2g, Planetbeing, Musclenerd. We need evad3rs back 🙁

    • Rob

Remember when they got in trouble for wanting to add a third party repo to their jailbreak? And all of a sudden the third party repo is releasing their own jailbreak? Maybe they r still the ones releasing it just under a different name so they don’t need to hear about it

      • TheShade247

That’s because taig was supporting piracy by default.
But you do know people always need something to bich about

      • Rob

So like I said if they were willing to work with them before. Maybe they are still working with them now?just quietly

      • TheShade247

Maybe, these guys are never online on twitter anymore, so it’s possible.

      • Rob

Just my own little conspiracy theory

  • James G

    Appreciate the update!

  • jalexcarter

we’ll all assume you meant 3 when you said 1, lol

    • Hehehehe, well according to my timezone we have ~2.5 days lol…

      • Newgunnerr

        Still not 1 lol

      • Forgive me for I’m weak in maths hahahaha… 😛

      • Edney Almeida

I dont believe you even care about it hahahah ! #Jailbreak9.2Now!

      • #YesPlease…

  • Kyle McNulty – Mclovin341

I’d be over the moon if it came tomorrow purchased the air 2 today when in the Apple Store instead of buying the pro so would love a JB! However I can wait. I reckon they’ll wait for 9.2.1 to be released or 9.3

  • Rave Farid

the jailbreak community should work together and collect raise a call for donation from jailbreak fan to collect one million dollar jailbreak prise to motivate talented hacker, I’m sure in no short times we will have a winner and we will be a happy free jailbreaker.
who can start this initiative maybe idownloadblog staffs or one of jailbreak figure who is trusted I’m sure a lot of people are ready to make donation without hesitation

    • Elias Chao

Lol, could you imagine one million dollars every iOS update. That would be crazy.

  • igobythisname

-checking multiple times daily, albeit, on my pwned 9.0.2.. jailbreak4life!

  • Trey

Ahh Jeff… Such a tease. These are all things we already know! You’re supposed to know more than us!

    • Nesly Lacroix

That wasn’t from Jeff. Cody Lee is the author. No value at all. Repeating what we already know.

    • Jayy

Wow I’ve never heard of that problem before. I’d go to the jailbreak reddit to ask them.

    • william johnson

search activator on safari,,…. then pick open in cydia. 🙂 also it would help to know your ios version. and if you have springtomize check to see if you have it hidden under app hide. also you can swipe down on springboard and search cydia. let me know if this helps

    • william johnson

and if you have activator installed you may be able to set an activator action to launch cydia… you’ll know if cydia is still installed if you do the swipe down spotlight search for cydia and it shows up.

      • Lordrootman

        Thanks for your reply
I wake up this morning and cydia is there

Click on it and it comes back
Maybe it will be good to install activator

  • Jerry

I predict once 9.2.1 releases the jailbreak follow it

  • Blip dude

For those on 9.1: I say just download the update but don’t actually update the phone. That way, when the time finally comes, all it will take is a click and a few minutes to be on 9.2

  • Morgan Freeman

Why not just type 2016? This ain’t Y2K! On an off topic, but related, note- I find it both sad and funny how they kept making those stupid glasses past 2009, you know the ones..where the zeros are the eye holes.. actually, they should have stopped after 2000 because it was lame even the second year around. That is all.

  • Running 9.2 Can’t wait to get my jailbreak back on the 6s Plus. So many tweaks I so dearly miss.

  • Damian

Rocking 9.1 jailBreak and don’t worry about the future

  • CryptoCoin420

I almost got excited when i saw the word JAILBREAK in the title, darn it!

  • Brian May

    You’re not alone my friend

  • jay

Like my little tweaks that I installed however if I am not jail broken I wouldn’t care

  • 电天堂

I predict that the ios 9.2 jailbreak would come out on Dec 31, 2015 or Jan 1, 2016

    • Waleed

      Exactly dude, same here 😀
i guess they gonna release it before Jan 2

  • therealist

The thing is… Its most likely going to come out on windows first isnt it?:/ only jailbroke once this past time on my currently 9.0.2 running iphone 6 so i dont know the history of jailbreaks, but thats what i heard. Sigh.. I have a macbook..

    • Elastic Tinman

… VM Windows for that or dualboot I suppose?

      • therealist

Oh yea i forgot about that, i had downloaded virtual machine for this jailbreak that i currently have bt i had waited for mac still cuz supposedly its buggy or wtvr.. Are the results the same? Jailbroken is jailbroken right?

  • tariq

Evaders were the best thing that happened to Jailbreak community. Hope they give us another gift this year like they did with ios 7.

  • Iam still on 9.0.2 jailbroken, won’t upgrade till the release of 9.2 jailbreak, even tho i’d like to restore it now and keep the jailbreak. Like Semi-Restore. Is there any comptible version plz?

    • (JailbreakQA) King Shoot

No. Semi-Restore works up to 8.4. You can try Cydia Imactor, but the success rate on iOS 9 is 50%, meaning there is a 50% chance it will fail and you will be forced to restore to iOS 9.2.

  • Iliyan

Aand the same nonesense as every time. This post brings no new information at all. Everything in it is common sense. Click bait… Perhaps only iMore is worse.

    • (JailbreakQA) King Shoot

iDB doesn’t do this every day like Redmondpie or iMore. They simply summarized everything that they know about a new jailbreak that happened in the last 2 months.

  • Матт Реякіпѕ

I understand the impatience for those who actually jailbreak to add features and change the look of their devices. I don’t understand buying an iDevice to jailbreak it solely to download cracked apps/games. You’re actually better off buying Android and installing a good AntiVirus if you’re going the cracked app/game path than to jailbreak an iDevice to install cracked apps/games. Not only is Android cheaper, but with AntiVirus installed it’s more secure than a jailbroken iDevice. iDevices that aren’t jailbroken are more secure than even Android with AV. So if you jailbreak and wanna keep yourself secure, only download legit apps/games and avoid the cracked ones.

    • Fevostone

The reason I do it is because iOS is a better and more smoother experience than android. And the jailbreak tweaks come out daily has well don’t really get that on android mate. The iPhone turns into a beast when jailbroken..!!!

  • Fevostone

It’s would be a lot easier on them and us if they could give us a round about date. If that is possible LOL

  • James F. Heck III

    TL:DR – we don’t really know anything.

  • Darren Minney

I can’t wait any longer! This would be a great New Years gift!!

  • 5723alex .

“a recent report pointed to a Weibo post by TaiG partner 3K Assistant which indicated their tool is nearly complete. Unfortunately, that’s allwe’ve heard—we have no knowledge of an exact release date.”

    It is not even close.

3K : It has been many days since iOS 9.2 was officially release. It is believed that the jailbreak teams has been working hard on jailbreaking it. However, at this moment, jailbreaking iOS 9.2 has not succeed yet. Fellow jailbreakers please be patient in looking forward to it. If there is any update on the progress, we will follow up instantly.

  • SFB

I’m assuming that if they do have a jailbreak their waiting on the final beta or the OTA of 9.2.1 to see if Apple patches any loop holes that either Pangu or Taig might have discovered. I just recently moved from Android to the Ios but discovered quickly that I preferred having my Iphone 6s jailbroken witch I did have on iOS 9.0.2. I was having issues so I thought I could do a recovery and restore my iOS 9.0.2 but was wrong and forced to 9.2. I personally like tweaking my OS as I’m familiar with the inners of android phones and on computers OsX, windows, and Linux. I know these teams are doing this for free and I respect them also. But due to the Apple’s kindergarten iOS that apple limits its users to I’m personally thinking about going back as I just get bored of the same old thing everyone has on their phone as I like to stand out from the norm and also like the adventure.

  • Shay Shtern

    2016 is Here … and ?

  • Edney Almeida

Ok guys! Thanks for the new. “Sit and wait” LOL
