Hot on the heels of saurik’s Cydia update, TaiG has updated its jailbreak tool to include the latest version of Cydia and to remove the setreuid patch. The update, which comes in at version 2.3, can be used by those of you who aren’t currently jailbroken. If you are jailbroken, then you’ll be able to update to the latest version of the TaiG untether via Cydia.

Version 2.3 of the TaiG tool is compatible with iOS 8.1.3 through iOS 8.4.

You can find TaiG 2.3 via our downloads page.

To learn how to jailbreak with TaiG, see our latest video tutorial for jailbreaking iOS 8.4. Unfortunately, the tool is still Windows-only, but we do have a TaiG iOS 8.4 Mac tutorial that uses a virtual machine.

Here is the change log for the update:

  • Integrates Cydia 1.1.19, which is perfectly compatible of iOS 8.3-8.4; removes setreuid patch.

Again, if you’re already jailbroken, just refresh Cydia, and you should see the following package:

TaiG 2.3

Have you updated yet?

  • Felix Alejandro Rodriguez

I was on their page a few minutes ago trying to download when I notice that they have updated Cydia inside TaiG.

  • tpk

I already installed Cydia 1.19, do I still need to install the new Taig Untether package?

    • czarczarczar

If it shows up as an update on Cydia, yes

      • tpk

Ok, thanks. Wil re-add the TaiG repo then. I deleted it because it was slow. Any change Saurik will eventually put it ons his repo like the last Untether package? Will more secure if it comes from the man himself 🙂

      • czarczarczar

Same thing I was waiting for but I got impatient and added TaiGs repo again. after I updated I deleted the repo and I have no issues .

  • CS

I was trying earlier today to get my 4s to JB on my VM running Windows 10 preview but couldn’t get it past 40%. I’ve tried every single troubleshoot guide without any luck. I’ll just wait until they release an OSX version

    • Miguel

Please read my post, you might have the same issue that I had. I hope it works for you as well

  • William Melendez

Yep,just showed up on my Cydia, updated and rebooting as I type : )

  • Felipe Queiroz Drumond

Frank Underwood would say this jailbreak is a “disorganised job”! I can’t count how many times my cydia had to upgrade Taig. Maybe 15 times since last Friday.

    • Mr_Coldharbour

Couldn’t agree with you more. I’ll probably hold off for another week before doing this. I just hope 8.3 will still be signed till then because I really don’t care about or want Apple Music and the new redesigned Music.app, dislike it. Or I’ll just restore to 8.3 sooner since I’ll be jailbreaking regardless.

      • Felipe Queiroz Drumond

The fact that I had to update it many times doesn’t suppress the great job they have done. The truth is that I don’t have any good reason to complain. My apologizes to Taig 🙂

Well, 8.4 doesn’t worth the upgrade, unless you want to try Apple Music.

      • kron1k 

I only updated twice once to 8.3 then when 8.4 came out. They never told you to upgrade so many times, did they? No!

      • Felipe Queiroz Drumond

No, they didn’t. But once there is an update available, why not to upgrade? Anyway, everything seems to be working properly, fortunately 🙂

      • kron1k 

I only update the untether on sauriks repo. I also check around before pressing upgrade. It’s called being informed

      • Wesh

No interest in Beats 1 either (free)? Pretty good radio station. Been listening to it everyday here in Belgium and liking it; a good mix of good music. Good.

      • Mr_Coldharbour

I listen to a very particular type of music, and I know without even bothering to think about it, that I won’t find it on any mainstream radio station. Beats1, Apple Music radio, whatever they call it, is mainstream. I just play my music that already have on my device, or download my podcasts or if I absolutely have to stream (which is extremely rare) I’ll stream DI (Digitally Imported) Radio and play particular sets of particular genres of electronic music (very very picky about my music). But you know, each to their own I suppose.

  • nfinite

    it’s time to update again..

    • kron1k 

Oh no 1 min of your life gone

  • droid3000

I’m trying to do it but it keeps telling iTunes isn’t installed

    • titi

      Try with itunes 12.0.1

      • droid3000

Is that the latest version? Cause already have that

      • Bugs Bunnay

12.0.1 is not the latest version. did you read the numbers right? 12.0.1? 12.2?

      • droid3000

        i hav3 12.2. how do i downgrade?

      • Bugs Bunnay

just uninstall it and the taig tool that showed you the error also gave you a link to download the correct version. it’s in Chinese but I was able to navigate (educated random clicking) and found it. i’m now jailbroken and I feel good.

      • sorrento

Thks Bugs for your explanation but it even doesn’t want to finish the installation, at the end it’s written:
state: cancellation of the “share” and unistall what it did start with….
So weird ! should I also unistall those ??
        – Apple Application support (32 and 64 bits) I have two of them
        – Apple Mobile Device Support
See the picture attached please 😉

      • Bugs Bunnay

did you successfully get the iTunes from the site they linked you? it’s ok to uninstall all of those because when installing iTunes it will reinstall them anyways.

      • sorrento

Yes, I followed your previous answer and followed the link for them and installed it….
So I don’t get it why before the really end of the installation it uninstalls again by itself…
There is no way to jailbreak with the last iTunes version ?
cause I downloaded it again till I find a solution

      • Bugs Bunnay

whoa don’t know about iTunes uninstalling itself, but you’ll need it because the taig tool needs that outdated iTunes to jailbreak.

      • sorrento

Thks Bugs but it’s all good now… Jailbroken and works perfectly :))
I updated a comment that explain how cause you can jailbreak by keeping the last iTunes version in fact and you just need drivers… I already shared the link.
Thks for your return anyway, much appreciated

      • sorrento

should I delete my iTunes folder ‘librairies => misic” the one installed on my computer ?

      • Bugs Bunnay

you may delete it or rename it or move it.

  • Mr_Coldharbour

TaiG V2.3 still not showing up on the IDB downloads page. Also, anyone think/predict 8.3 will still be signed by the end of this weekend?

  • Shay Shtern

    Stuck on 20%!!! .. 🙁

    • 2008crna

Downgrade iTunes. I had the same problem until I used an older version of iTunes. It JB my 6+ but wouldn’t work on my iPad. After downgrading, and restoring my iPad (not updating) it worked. It isn’t the Anti virus software.

      • Miguel

For me it was. But perhaps it was because of AVG in particular

  • Orrin Kohon

Now app store will not download apps

    • Rumble

Settings -> reset all settings – log out of your AppStore account before doing this. Once done, log back in and it should work now.

  • Shay Shtern

Stuck on 60% : “Restarting device, please wait…”
    No change…keep trying to restart..

    • fasih

It usually just takes couple of minutes!!
If its taking long, you are doing it wrong!

    • Adrian Praporgescu

mine ends with error every time… can’t jailbreak

      • Keep trying. Took me hours but it finally took.

    • sguyx

were you in the loop “restarting device, pkease wait…”
everytime i try to jailbreak it goes to the 60%, getting few times “restarting device” and ends up to the error 1105. i dont knkw what is it because the page (solutions button) doesnt ooen the webpage…

      • tiz

        me too!!!!!

  • dpacemaker

All I get is a driver error on my windows machine. Whether it is through parallels or an actual windows PC it won’t connect. I have used multiple cords, different USB slots, uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes. Nothing works, hopefully they make a Mac version soon.

    I get this error…”Apple driver hasn’t been found ”

Use the latest iTunes.. Please help with this

    • Mike

I get the same error….. I have not figured out how to fix

      • Jamie

I tried and tried and couldn’t get Taig to work. Used the PP tool and it worked the first time!

    • Right clicking and run as administrator works for me.

  • QP

there is a chance to get a mac version too of this tool in next days? or they just won’t do that?

    • M2

Mac peeps need to get over this. Just use a virtual machine or use a friends windows. Not trying to be a jerk but every article someone asks the same thing. Just pretend that there will never be a Mac version.

  • Mike

Will this fix the driver issues i keep getting when i try to jailbreak….Keeps saying install itunes apple drivers not found, but itunes is installed, can someone help?

  • IK

Is anyone having an issue where their apps don’t update in the app store?

  • Mark S

Can we please have 7 more updates to the jailbreak in the next 3 days to keep the confusion level running high?

  • Bugs Bunnay

now this guy knows exactly what people need for jailbreaking process. straight forward and to the point. I had my Norton 360 on though.

  • Bruce Rahmani

Although I have about 10 sources added to Cydia I cannot find any tweaks/apps to install. Search returns empty. Anyone having this issue? Refreshing the catalog does not help either.

    • Victor Hugo Lazari

Having the same issue here. I’ve jailbroken my iphone trying to test in the ios 8.4 and it doesn’t show up any repo. All empty.

    • Bruce

Anyone else with this issue? help!

  • DopamineAddicted

I just downloaded the last TaiG yesterday. Updated to 8.4 this morning. Came to work to JB and a new TaiG is already out and its saying 4 hours to download. FML. the things I do to jailbreak

    • Just use the old one and update from cydia

  • Adrian Praporgescu

I have a problem jailbreaking. I have recently updated to 8.4 thru itunes from 8.3 jailbroken iphone 6. I have downloaded this latest taig version 2.3 and it doesnt jailbreak. i have tried 3 times already, every time gets stuck at 60% when it says “please wait for you’re phone to restart”. It restart the first time the tool start but the second time it doesn’t. After a while an error appears, first error was “1002” but i had deactivated the passcode and “find my iphone” before starting the tool. Second time error and third time error was the same “1005”, but i have no antivirus on my pc only “malawarebyts” wich i have turned before the tool start.
So what else can i do?? I have restarted the pc and tried it again… same situation.

    • There’s nothing else for you to do on your part. No one else wants to say it but the jailbreak tool sucks. It’s not you, or anything you’re doing wrong. It will just fail for whatever reason. Just keep trying and EVENTUALLY it will be successful.

  • I cant open the website why

  • Todd Young

I never repeat my previous comments, but given how frequent and unstable the TaiG jailbreak releases have been, I feel compelled to repeat the following advice…

For those having issues jailbreaking, a word of advice from someone who has jailbroken every iOS device owned since 2009: if there’s one lesson I’ve learned, it is that its best to wait a few weeks until the JB code has stabilized before attempting to JB your device. The fact of the matter is that regardless of who the JB developer is, they almost always lack true testing protocols, and as a result, the public effectively ends up becoming alpha and beta testers for unproven code.

I find as a good rule of thumb, is to wait a minimum of two weeks after the initial JB release. Also, once the latest bug patch release is out in the wild for at least a week without another “fix” from the JB developer is usually a good sign that the code has begun to stabilize. Furthermore, most JB tweak developers need some time to update their tweaks, so the benefit of jailbreaking right away is greatly marginalized (unless you like to be a tester).

Frankly, I’m surprised that Jeff here hasn’t made such recommendations, as I know he’s seen this happen all too often in the past. In fact, if you go back through his previous articles on past jailbreaks over the years, this story plays out almost exactly the same every time.

    • Glenn DolFan Baptista

Smart man. I am still waiting lol

  • Bradley Hines

When I updated the jailbreak package to 2.3, my iPhone 5s got stuck in the middle of a boot. If this happens to you, do not restore!! Just hold the home and power button until it cancels the boot, and reboots again, this fixed it for me and everything works fine. It was weird to see my phone get stuck in the middle of a boot though.

  • Lawrence Potter

Can anyone help with an issue… I’ve jailbroken my iPad on iOS 8.4 and all of a sudden everything in the notification centre seems oversized. Anyone know how to fix this?

  • Tony Trenkle Jr.

I was still getting stuck at 60% last night on 2.2. Says I need to remove a firewall but I’m on a virtual machine so I shouldn’t have any right? Has anyone found a way to jailbreak WITHOUT having a fresh install of the OS? I’ve tried EVERYTHING!

    • Todd Young

If you don’t begin with a stock fresh install of iOS, not only will it likely result in a failed attempt to jailbreak, but you will likely end up with an unstable iOS build if the JB happens to finish.

Per some wise advice posted earlier, always follow these steps:

      1) Backup your device

      2) Download 8.4.ipsw

      2) Shift+Restore

      4) Point to the IPSW file

      5) Restore

      6) Setup AS A NEW PHONE

      7) CLOSE iTunes

      8) Launch jailbreak as Administrator

      9) Setup Cydia after JB

      10) Restore from your last backup

      11) Install your tweaks

      Turn off Find My Phone

      Turn off Password

      Sign out of iCloud completely

Put your phone in Airplane Mode (but turn on WiFi)

      Disable your antivirus

      • Tony Trenkle Jr.

But I don’t wanna lose my backup! And you cant restore to backup after you jailbreak because you lose the jailbreak. I’ve done jailbreaks in the past without a fresh install so I know its possible. But I’ve always used a Mac version instead of this virtual machine crap.

      • Tony Trenkle Jr.

Wait so you CAN restore from your last backup after jailbreaking? How would you do that? Because I tried going to settings, general, reset all content and settings and it froze my phone so I had to put it in DFU mode and restore that way. So how would I restore from backup safely after I jailbreak?

and I dont think I have an antivirus program since I’m using a virtual machine.

      • Todd Young

Just follow the steps. If your last backup isn’t corrupted, the settings and apps that you place back on your device should work fine after the jailbreak is completed on the fresh stock iOS.

And if you have an unstable phone after you’ve reinstalled your settings and apps (which likely means you have some problematic junk in there), then use this opportunity to clean out the cobwebs by manually reinstalling all your apps, JB tweaks, and settings from the new phone state, after its been jailbroken.

      • Tony Trenkle Jr.

But how would I restore so I don’t lose the jailbreak? Through icloud or itunes? Plus it takes FOREVER for my shit to restore that’s why I’ve been trying to find a way to do it without restoring. And I know its possible from before but maybe not without a Mac version of the tool.

      • Todd Young

Using a Mac or PC to jailbreak an iOS device has nothing to do with it. It all comes down to backing up your device via iTunes (I usually avoid using iCloud and do local backups only to the computer).

Those who wish to successfully jailbreak and have a stable device need to come to terms that this isn’t something that Apple supports, and subsequently its not for the faint of heart or those who don’t want to put in the extra time & effort to ensure their devices are set up properly (following all the steps I listed each time).

    • Jamie

I used the pp tool after. Many times trying and failing with Taig. Pp worked the first time!

      • Tony Trenkle Jr.

I used the PP tool as well the first time but it gave me an error and of course I couldnt read it because it in Chinese. But my last jailbreak I used was the PP 8.1.2 on Mac. Did you do anything differently when you used PP?

      • Jamie

Just restored it with a fresh restore and after Taig didn’t work, switched right to the pp tool and bam within minutes it was jailbreak. So much easier to use for sure.

      • Tony Trenkle Jr.

Did you restore from backup afterwards?

      • Jamie

Yes I restored from my latest backup afterward and it works like a champ. Do a fresh restore and try it. It worked for me. Hopes it works for you.

      • Tony Trenkle Jr.

Last night I used TAIG and restored from backup via Itunes and it worked!!

      • Jamie

I tried everything for Taig and never could get it to work. PP tool worked for me the first time.

  • Bosh

Don’t forget to uncheck “Automatically sync when this iPhone/iPod/iPad is connected.” in itunes.
The problem is that when the iPhone restarts during jailbreak iTunes
will try to sync and will not let the process continue (and it will auto
    open if necessary).

  • JNY

After getting stuck at 60% and many tries later finally got it to work, i downgraded to 8.3 because i noticed i was having battery problems on 8.4 but i think its the jailbreak bc it keeps draining anyone having this problem?

  • Michael Duy

I have a “STOP sign”, because I had an iPhone 5s and I did a jailbreak, but 2 weeks later my iPhone began to burn and the battery life only lasted for 2 hours, and some experts told me that is not a battery problem, that its a CPU problem. The thing is, I have now an iPhone 6, and I want someone to tell me if this problem is common, because I really like to jailbreak my i6, but Im afraid of this.

    • Todd Young

The only way you can definitively determine if its the JB or its something related to the hardware, is by restoring the device with a fresh stock iOS, and test it for a day or two without any JB code installed.

  • Jay Phillips

I jailbroke my phone with 2.2 on Tuesday and just a few minutes ago Norton came up with a warning that TaiGJBreak_EN_2200.exe contained Suspicious.Cloud.7 and deleted it. Does that mean that everyone who recently jailbroke their phones is now infected with a virus? Somewhat concerned…

  • Mark S

Wow took me 5 hours (no kidding) of one attempt after another to get this thing to work on Windows 10 with the latest itunes and that 50meg 64 bit driver file that taig links to before this would finally take on an iphone 6+.

  • Edy Ariezman

I had jailbroken but now, i can’t even download ifile from cydia. the searchbox like useless. help me. :'(

  • votdfak

Tempted by Music to upgrade, but it’s not worth hassle. Patiently waiting iOS 9 and JB of course. iOS without JB is not complete IMHO. Virtual Home is reason enough to JB, let alone/aside other magnificent tweaks.

  • Gabriela Furlin

The jail went well. Cydia opened and I’ve added two new repos.
After iTunes backup recovered, my new repos disappeared!! And I could not refresh or add these new repos again!
    Normal repos are still working.
Anyone else got this bug on Cydia???

  • dahauss

Anyone know why amfid and some today widgets crash since updating the jailbreak? Specifically when I use mywi it crashes. Also I’ve seen today crash. Any ideas?

  • Adrian

still getting “itunes not found” error lol… why does Taig not work with newest version of itunes? ridiculous. I am JB my wifes device… I updated to newest itunes, because I noticed taig has a new 2.3 updated tool, but apparently they didnt “fix” it still. Time to downgrade itunes! gayy

  • sorrento

I have this itunes drivers message error so I can’t start the jailbreak. Then I followed a post that said uninstall iTunes and download itunes version 12.0.1 which I did and it doesn’t want to install and ssaid: problem has been detected.
So now I even don’t have iTunes… any one how could advise me pleaseee 😉
PS: I also read some people still have the last iTunes version… I don’t get it.
I’m gonna try to reinstall the last version

  • sorrento

So now I have the last iTunes version again and still have this driver error message… What can I do please cause my phone is all been restored and empty I need to step forward.
    Thks for your help 😉

  • sorrento

Hi everyone, any idea how to jailbreak and keeping the last iTunes version ?
I can’t install the 12.0.1 version, dunno why it doesn’t let it install it till the end and just before to end the installation it automatically unistall it.
So I am stuck with the last version except if there some suggestions…
Thks in advance for your help cause I really need to rejailbreak my phone 😉

  • dahauss

I use Windows 7 pro 64bit. I had to downgrade itunes and then install the 64 bit itunes drivers package. It worked.. HOWEVER, the only way I could get it to finish was to turn off the auto-sleep on the phone. I normally have it set to 2 minutes. When the screen on the phone would go off, it would STOP the JB with an error. As soon as I turned that off so it never goes to sleep, it all worked fine..
