WeatherPeek 1

WeatherPeek, an upcoming jailbreak tweak from the AtomDevTeam, does something pretty cool—it allows you to use a simple “peek” gesture while on the first Home screen page to see current and upcoming weather info for a designated area. The peek gesture is basically a swipe and hold gesture that reveals the weather information hidden off screen. Watch our video inside to see what I mean.

Once WeatherPeek is installed on your device, you’ll be met with a fairly in depth setup wizard. This wizard will walk you through enabling WeatherPeek in one or more of its three locations, selecting the designated weather location, and more. The setup features slick animations, text, and graphics to help you through the process. It’s evident that a lot of time and thought has been put into this tweak.

One of the things that I like most about WeatherPeek is how the weather location is selected. Instead of relying on location services, or some cumbersome Weather ID, WeatherPeek requires you to tap your desired location on a map. Once you do, it will automatically configure itself with weather details from your selected area.

WeatherPeek 2

The best part of WeatherPeek is the ability to “peek” at the weather details directly from the iPhone’s Home screen. It’s also possible to feature weather on the Lock screen and in the Spotlight interface, but neither of those options are as good as the SpringBoard option. In fact, I recommend keeping WeatherPeek disabled for everything but the SpringBoard.

WeatherPeek is still being worked on, but as you can see this tweak shows promise. It’s a different take on weather, features an enhanced setup process, and contains easy to use and staightforward preferences. Although I’m not overly enthused by every single last one of the tweak’s options, its core functionality, that of peeking at your weather on the iPhone’s Home screen, is absolutely top notch.

WeatherPeek will be available in the near future on Cydia. Let me know what you think about the tweak down below in the comments.

This tweak will also have iPad Compatibility as well, just not sure if it will have it at launch though. That’s what I’m looking forward to the most. Kinda surprised tweak wasn’t demonstrated on an iPad as well.

100% it will be available for the iPad at launch 🙂

Very nice tweak. Would be a great option to have if it was possible to do a full left to right swipe on main page and get the full weather info as opposed to just a peak.

I am not saying to replace the peak functionality, but add an option to do a full swipe to get full weather info.

Right now on iPhone, left to right swipe action doesn’t have anything assigned to it so it would be a great thing.

I always enjoy weather tweaks especially the ones that don’t always need to track your location in order to work.

    • Mr_Coldharbour

Seconded! I hate apps that absolutely can’t do without knowing your every location. Can’t I have a static location and just choose a city to be my current location and have the data show ONLY for that? Can’t quite get my head around that. Couldn’t agree with you more.

  • Mr_Coldharbour

That’s a rather good looking tweak and great use of the right-swipe on homepage to get a peek at the weather. The lockscreen and Spotlight option to display weather is equally great. Jeff, what if you get a lockscreen notification with the weather displaying? Will there be any overlap of text/icons? How will it look? Otherwise, bravo to the dev(s) for this tweak. Looking forward to it!

Hi! Glad you like the look of WeatherPeek. When you receive a locksecreen notification the weather information will be blurred out as not to distract from your notification.

      • Mr_Coldharbour

That’s great, and thanks for clarifying!

  • tunutsaigon

I am curious why you have the need to buy/install another useless tweak to slow down your device whilst just simply swiping down your Notification, at lockscreen/springboard/in app to reveal the weather? :-/

  • iPhoneWINS

    jailbreaking is slowing down

  • This looks really cool! As someone who is always wondering what the weather will be in the next few days I’ll be taking a look at this for sure!
