OneHandWizard Home screen

Let’s face it—Reachability means well, but it’s just not ideal for long-term one hand usage. This is especially so if you’re using a large device like the iPhone 6 Plus. OneHandWizard is a new jailbreak tweak that solves this problem. It brings a true one hand mode to the iPhone that runs circles around any other solution that we’ve seen thus far.

OneHandWizard targets the larger iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, because it supplants the built in Reachability feature on those devices with a solution of its own. Once installed, double-tap on the Home button like you’d normally do to invoke Reachability, and you’ll find the OneHandWizard interface instead.

Unlike Reachability, OneHandWizard allows you to access the full interface of your iPhone in a scaled down size. That means that you have access to all parts of the screen, all app icons, and every corner of an app. OneHandWizard scales down the interface to make it easier to reach and navigate with one hand. If you’ve seen Samsung’s one hand solution, then it’s somewhat similar to that.

OneHandWizard 3

The cool thing about OneHandWizard is that you can quickly switch to right-hand mode or left-hand mode by simply swiping on the black area opposite the interface. You can even resize the screen to fit your hand by dragging from the corner of the app at the top of the screen. In other words, OneHandWizard isn’t just some one-size-fits-all solution, but it can be customized to fit your preferred hand like a glove.

But what about doing things that need two hands, such as taking screenshots? What about other actions that require physical interaction with hardware buttons, such as locking the device? These things can all be done by means of the hamburger button near the bottom of the OneHandWizard interface. Tapping this button presents an overlay that allows you to do the following with the tap of a software button:

  • Volume up
  • Volume down
  • Unmute
  • Lock the screen
  • Take a screenshot

You can also use this overlay to invoke Notification Center, since off screen gestures are not moved with the smaller view.

I’ve been trying to come up with some criticism of OneHandWizard, but to be honest, it’s hard to do so. The one negative thing that stands out to me is the menu overlay’s design. It’s filled with share buttons to promote the tweak, and it’s just not very sleek looking. I also think that it would be nice if you could customize the button layout within the overlay menu.

For devices that don’t support Reachability, OneHandWizard features an Activator section in its preferences for assigning a gesture to invoke one hand mode. By default, the interface is set to open when using a triple-press of the Home button.

OneHandWizard Preferences

I’ve tried a handful of tweaks that claim to make it easier to use a larger iPhone with one hand, and I’ve also used Reachability extensively. Many of those solutions, while not terrible, are limited in scope. OneHandWizard feels like an honest to goodness solution to a problem that I know that many of you have to deal with.

I have very large hands, and even I struggle at times to access all areas on my iPhone 6 Plus’ screen with one hand. With this in mind, this is a jailbreak tweak that I plan on keeping installed on my device, and I think that many of you will feel the same.

OneHandWizard is available for $3.99 on the BigBoss repo. Sound off down below with your thoughts on the tweak.

  • ieatcalcium

That’s kind of a steep price for a small tweak though.. I would be more willing to pay if it was $1.99

    • define small… why don’t you write the tweak? I’ll pay you $1.99. Deal?

      • ieatcalcium

Well I’m sure with all the people that are gong to be buying this tweak, he’s going to get a hell of a lot more than a few dollars.

      • How would you know? You couldn’t even attempt to do what he did. All you’re going to do is pirate it and assume that you deserve everything because you’re *special*. (No you’re not.)

      • ieatcalcium

Maybe because I’m a developer…? How would you know what I do and don’t know what to do? The functionality is literally already built into iOS. And if you look at my collection of tweaks, I’ve bought all of them. I like to support devs. So thank you for your rude assumptions. Maybe you shouldn’t post anymore because your snide comments aren’t needed around here.

      • Shinonuke

Not sure why you went full anal on ieatcalcium but his opinion isn’t unfounded. $2 is more reasonable than $4 for this tweak. Everyone have a price they are willing to pay for certain products

  • Chang in Charge

I forgot how amazing one handed use is. This tweak is pretty slick, definitely worth the $4.

    • DroidDoesnt_2

      I concur…definitely worth the $4

  • nonchalont

    Awesome tweak!!

  • scotchedpommes

This would be of interest, but I find that Reachability often fails to activate with the double tap on home. [Possible conflict with BioLockdown?] If this tweak can be set to activate through an Assistive+ toggle it’d make for a decent workaround.

Even without standard Reachability activation problems, I thought it seemed a significant oversight not fully integrating Reachability with the stock iOS AssistiveTouch button [switched on in Accessibility settings.] Assistive+ gets around that nicely, creating a second AT button with additional customisable toggles, so I’ve already got Reachability, screenshot, rotation lock assigned and working through that.

    • DroidDoesnt_2

Do you have Activator installed? Reachability conflicts with Activator…

      • scotchedpommes

Yes. Required by a number of tweaks in regular use, so although it’s often an issue I tend to end up looking for workarounds where possible. Having an Assistive+ Reachability toggle allows me to stop using the home button, but that alone can’t solve the problem of reaching the furthest corners.

Installed OneHandWizard after posting here and see that it simply replaces my Reachability toggle in Assistive+, so it works well irrespective of those problems with Activator.

Wouldn’t mind seeing the addition of a toggle to bring the view back to fullscreen after a short [user-defined, if not Reachability default] period of time.

So far so gud, workin perfect on my 6+

  • Kurt

nice copy from the Galaxy Note. But for one handed use, I mostly use the keyboard that is smaller and then moved over to the side of the phone your hand is holding it. Not sure if there is a tweak to copy that also but that is what’s needed. Samsung does large phones best.

  • Supacon

Slick. I hope Apple is taking notes.

  • justme

if you already bought an iPhone 6 Plus
and miss one-hand use. this tweak will help you, otherwise you did a wrong choice, so deal with it.

  • Very nice tweak. I believe I’ll even have use for it on my iPhone 6. Even if I don’t end up using the tweak as much as I’d like, I have absolutely no problem supporting good developers who clearly worked hard. Pretty exciting last couple days in the community, especially after it seemed to have “lulled” a little but latley.

  • White Michael Jackson

Too bad Apple will NEVER implement something like this.

    • jake kneller

You can’t say never because the same thing was said about making a phone as large as the 6 plus and they made the 6 plus and its a better phone than the standard iPhone 6 well in a few areas not saying it’s better over all

  • OrangeCone

Awsome tweak!! But it will not work if you have VirtualHome install. Hope it get fix soon

  • Yet another previously called “Samsung gimmick” is being appreciated now that it’s on iOS…no surprise.

  • makedonii

this is it!!! my life is complete now!!

i have a message for “Shrinkability developed by Mohammad Abu-Garbeyyeh”

    “you snooze you lose, dude!!”
and this tweak is way mutch better! yeah 3.99 is a bit pricy for a tweak but this tweak is valubale to me and il pay that guy for the effort he put!

  • iBanks

Don’t see the point. Shouldn’t buy a big phone if you can’t handle it. May as well stayed with an 5s is you have to rely on this tweak.

    • Shaw

Enjoying bigger screen in most time. But use this tweak when necessary, as single hand available.

  • john diaz

Best tweak i’ve seen in a while. very useful !

  • nice; but it currently conflcts with Widget Center

  • MajorSHARK

Stick to the 5S if you like one hand usage.

  • samball sam

Wait! Am I the only left handed person here? The big question: does it shrink to the right as well?

    • ieatcalcium

It shrinks to both sides (: You can change it in the settings.

  • Max

I can’t find the tweak anywhere on Cydia?!

  • Utrarunner5

the hamburger button. never heard it called that before. awesome name.

  • JOhn Mc

I have just got one hand wizard but I also have ReachApp and both defaults are double tap of the home button, so when I double tap it automatically goes to one hand wizard and I cannot use ReachApp, is there anyway around this???

  • X-47B

    lol.. copied directly from Note!
