Apple Watch closeup 003

If you’re planning on buying one of Apple’s Watches, be prepared to spend a significant amount of time on research due to the dizzying array of price points based on the different models, sizes and bands.

Choosing between the Apple Watch models and two sizes is the easy part.

But the rich choice of bands and the fact that not every band is offered across all Watch models and sizes makes choosing a combination that suits your tastes and — more importantly — fits your budget something of a mind job.

To help you make sense of a total of forty different sales combinations, we’ve put together a handy price list based on the confirmed models, sizes and bands.

As mentioned above, Apple is offering a range of different straps for the Apple Watch, Apple Watch Sport and Apple Watch Edition.

While Apple Watch Sport prices are the same regardless of the bands available for that model, going with a higher-end Watch entails factoring in prices of the different bands being offered.

For instance, the stainless steel Apple Watch can cost anywhere between $549 and $1,049 for the smaller 38mm version, or between $599 to $1,099 in the case of the larger 42mm model.

As for the 18-karat gold Apple Watch Edition, the price range is even more pronounced because most bands offered for that device have gold parts.

For instance, while the entry-level 38mm Apple Watch Edition with White Sport Band costs ten grands, opting for a Bright Red Modern Buckle brings the price up to an eye-watering $17,000.

For your convenience, the Apple website lists all Watch models.

Another (recommended) way of researching all the Watch options at your disposal is Apple’s Apple Store shopping app, available at no cost in the App Store.

Has Apple provided too many choices, do you think?

Or, do these SKUs make sense from a personalization point of view given that users will be wearing a fashionable device on their wrist all day long?

42mm Space Gray Aluminum Case with Black Sport Band for $399 is the perfect one for me. 🙂

    • Jose Antonio Gomez

The same for me, and then for important meetings, I will buy a nice third party bracelet.

    • Fanboy 

Looks like you’ll be joining the line with the rest of us lol, seems to be everyone will be getting this exact combo, even me

      • Fanboy 

Someone should make an online tool btw

      • iPhoneWINS

some will sell out while other sit on shelves..lol

  • Alan Tocheri

Can anyone confirm that the bands aren’t interchangeable between models? I’d prefer to get the aluminum version for 95% of the time and buy a separate Milanese Loop. Will they physically not work? (or just look stupid?)

    • It’ll work, they are all interchangeable. I too want the Milanese loop since the link bracelets price is too high.

    • Jose Antonio Gomez

Here you can see how is going to look your new apple watch. mixyourwatch dot com =)

  • I wish retail pricing practice would ditch the $999.99 jazz and just round least-significant “9”s up to the next zero–in this case, $1,000. We’re all going to have to pay the VAT (or sales tax) anyhow, so why not make the base numbers simpler to use? Round all the $249s to $250s, the $.99s to $1 etc. While we couldn’t muster the moxie to go with the metric system for weights & measures, at least we could get the benefit of the decimal dollars deal.

    • roygelbart

Marketing..! Looking at a $99.99 price tag looks like a better deal than $100.00. It’s all about marketing!

      • iKnowAppleBest

        This is true
And then they can also say… we can sell you this for less than $100!!!! But it costs $99.99 lol

      • TonyCr

Best would be to market at $99. What you would eat in the loss of 99 cents you’ll make up for in volume.

  • DSN1138

so no space black with a lower priced band ??

    • Darkened Light

Pretty sure the space black is more expensive because it has an extra coating of material to make it black, not just because of the band.

  • Delis Encarnacion

I’m a huge fan of Apple. No disrespect to them but I’m going to have to pass on this. Way too expensive for nothing. I’d rather just wait until the Moto 360 becomes compatible with iOS.

    • iPhoneWINS

nah i can do an android watch,,, i will wait for iwatch redesign that makes it thinner and cheaper..

  • iPhoneWINS

    lol $17,000 fro a crappy watch…

    • Brad

      but the battery is replaceable!!!111!!!

That means you can keep using your crappy, outdated watch for a decade!

    • mike

#onlymyopinion Now that’s an ugly watch.

  • jalexcarter

I havent gotten around to watching the keynote yet but i havent seen anything about these watches for left handed use. I myself am left handed so not sure if theyre making watches that are mirrored for lefty use or if you can just flip the watch mechanism upside down and everything will rotate accordingly. anyone know any details about this?

    • Marcel Barriel

It rotates so you can use it lefthanded

      • jalexcarter

ahhhh, so then the standby button is on top and the crown is on bottom, guess that should work. damn minority population, lol.

      • TonyCr

Not interested. Saving my bucks for the iPad pro…maybe. It’s going to have to be FAR ahead of my iPad Air to interest me.

  • Stefano

LOL there goes the one i was interested in LOL over $1K HAAAA!

  • Aaron Overton

So wait a second here…. the cost difference between these two is 3,000 dollars (plus tax) and we are only getting a leather band. What kind of leather are they using?? Easy Apple. Someone is getting a little excited.

42mm 18-Karat Yellow Gold Case with Black Sport Band — $12,000
42mm 18-Karat Yellow Gold Case with Black Classic Buckle — $15,000

    • RobocopJulio

The leather on the strap isnt wait makes it cost 300 dollars more, its the gold on the buckle that makes the price jump up.

  • Chris Gaunt

$150 premium for ‘upgrading’ the aluminum to stainless steel when comparing prices with the black sport band? And the price jumps with the different bands! There a lot of Apple products in my household but i still have to ask, HAVE THEY COMPLETLY LOST IT?? Holy crap, those are just silly prices especially when there is zero difference to the internals!!

    • Chris Gaunt

I guess I will correct myself, but apparently the upgrade to stainless steel includes sapphire crystal. I watch keynotes and don’t remember them saying the Sport only comes with strengthened ion-x glass? Did i miss something? Feels like Apple is being a little sneaky. That said, I still think they’re off their rockers.
