Pangu Yosemite icon

Details have been a bit hard to gather when it comes to the status and progress of Pangu’s iOS 8 jailbreak. Since the initial release and subsequent bug fix update, all has been relatively quiet.

Today on Twitter, the team broke their silence to provide an update on the progress being made towards Cydia compatibility. There’s still a lot of work to be done until everything is finished, but it’s getting there.

Although many have already installed a working version of Cydia, the Pangu team has acknowledged that there is still some work to be done to ensure optimum compatibility. Along with working with Saurik on Cydia updates, the team is also working hard to fix Messages and Safari bugs related to the jailbreak.

And that brings us to the current state of the jailbreak. It looks like a version of Pangu with Cydia built in could still be a little ways off, though, both parties are no doubt working hard on this. It also means that there’s no ETA for an OS X version of Pangu. That release still seems to be quite a ways off.

This rollout brings yet another question, or perhaps at least an observation:

Do you think that Pangu should have waited until more pieces were in place prior to releasing their jailbreak?

And now the observation:

Since this release is of Chinese origin, and most Chinese citizens don’t use Cydia, it’s obvious that compatibility with Cydia, and perhaps even OS X, just aren’t as high on the priority list of the Pangu team as it was for other jailbreak teams in the past.

Regardless, we are thankful for Pangu’s hard work, and we know that eventually everything will work as it always has. It’s just going to take time and patience.

What are your thoughts on the release?

There is a big error that i wass getting from pangu still not fix:
After jailbreak and when we install cydia its go to boot loop and stuck on apple logo after reboot .

    How to fix:

1: Restore your iphone with latest version of itunes
2: After restore just disable find my iphone
    3: remove iphone passcode lock
    4: than jailbreak with pangu
5: after jailbreak do not enable find my iphone and iphone passcode lock otherwise you will go to boot loop

    ThankYou 🙂

No man, it’s a dev release. It’s people who don’t want bugs who should have waited. It was not a public release it was so that the developers of the tweaks (including Saurik with Cydia) could get busy updating and bugfixing ready for a public release. If you don’t like this release don’t use it but please stop complaining.

    • Manuel Molina

I haven’t used it and don’t plan to. But those who want it for a tweak or two are the ones reporting the bugs. This could have been handled better, but it seems like it was released into the wild for a reason. If it was only for dev’s, it wouldn’t be on headlines everywhere. This wouldn’t have been released as if it was a pubic release, because regardless that they say it wasn’t, it seems like it was to some degree.
