iPhone 5.7 (T3 magazine concept teaser 001)

Since just before Apple unveiled the iPhone 5s last September, we’ve been hearing rumors that the company’s eighth-generation handset is going to feature a larger display. Reports are calling for sizes from 4.8-inches all the way up to 6-inches.

But there’s also another theory—first started by Reuters last June—going around that Apple is working on two larger screen iPhone models: one with a 4.7-inch display and one with a 5.7-inch display. And a new report out of China adds to the mix…

Here’s the translated report from Sina Weibo (via iClarified):

“A report coming in from China cites multiple Foxconn insiders who have apparently revealed that Apple is going to release a 4.7 inch and a 5.7 inch iPhone later this year. Both iPhones will reportedly come with fingerprint scanners as well.”

And here’s the original report from Reuters for added context:

“Apple is looking at introducing at least two bigger iPhones next year – one with a 4.7-inch screen and one with a 5.7-inch screen – said the sources, including those in the supply chain in Asia. They said suppliers have been approached with plans for the larger screens, but noted it is still unclear whether Apple will actually launch its flagship product in the larger sizes.”

I’ll be the first to admit that the idea of Apple launching two new iPhones with different display sizes this year sounds odd, it’s worth noting that this thesis has been corroborated by several other publications, including the well-sourced DisplaySearch.

displaysearch

I also think Apple tossed traditionalism out the window when it unveiled two new iPhones last fall. So it’s very possible that the company is finally opening up to the idea of expanding its smartphone lineup in an attempt to hit multiple market segments.

Of course, this is all speculation at this point, and this is just one of the many rumors floating around about Apple’s product plans for 2014. The company is also expected to release a larger 12-inch iPad this year, as well as a smartwatch or wearable.

Thoughts?

    4.7″ is Perfect.!!!

    • Ben

4.7 is perfect; I am so gonna buy the iPhone 6, whatever it has

      • Matt

He he I’m going to be stuck with an iPhone 5S until a year later when the 6S comes out. I hope the 6S will be a success 😀 😀
        (See what I did there)

      • iPT MSTR

        LOL

    • smtp25

I’ve been saying this since for ever, everyone else seemed to be No 3.5″ is amazing and if wanted a bigger screen I’d use my iPad. The sheeple are turning 🙂

      • Rowan09

Dude the 5 is 4″ and most people now are interested in bigger screens, remember Dell did it first with the 5″ Streak and 7″ and both flopped. I’m for a bigger screen but not huge, I have a Note 2 as well as a 5s and to me it’s more of a Galaxy tab than a phone.

    • Jonathan

Shut up and take my money….
      *throws out LG Cosmos 2*

    • Ryan W

Agree but my OCD is telling me for an extra 0.3 inches for a thinner bezel

    • Xee

Bigger the better! If the iPhone 6 does not have a substantially bigger screen with a higher res I’m not buying it.

  • Gate

I’m not sure if I need/would prefer a larger screen, but I am very curious non the less!
    Go Apple! right?

  • Anonymous

I hope won’t buy the iPhone 6 if the screen is 4 inch again the iP5 is fast enought

    • Maxim∑

      lol what?

    • Prasoon Singh

      English please.

    • smtp25

      Just ignore the word ‘hope’

    • Jonathan

      I think you mean:
I won’t buy the iPhone 6 is the screen is 4 inches again, and also, the iPhone 5 is fast enough with the A6 chip, so I don’t see a necessity in the A7 chip or greater.
It’s hard to translate bleahguage. :/

      • GustaMusta

        I won’t buy the iPhone 6 IF the screen is….. 😉

      • Jonathan

        ah, right, lol. 😛

  • MHCsk

    5.7″ ? That doesn’t sound very Apple.

    • NSA

Apple should expend its iPhone line up. Because not all customers including IOS users don’t like larger screen sixes.

    • Ryan W

      5.7 sounds like iphablet

  • s0me

They need to do more than just a bigger screen ! They need to “open up” IOS.

    • Jacques Hragar

They never will though but i would love if they made a file manager that could browse the local directory

    • Matheus Lisboa

Ios is great as it is, opening it up might spoil it

    • Nils Goosse

I agree with you. People are always thinking Apple should innovate more. Imo, apple is. In comparison to Samsung, apple invents new features and thinks about the benefits for customers (ex: eyetrackreading feature from samsung)

      • NSA

And Samsung has stolen iPhone & iPad technologies

      • NSA

Samsung has not invented eye tracking

      • RarestName

        Look at the notification center.

      • stefan

        look at your phone.

    • Ted Forbes

iOS standard and i0S for open that would be cool.

    • NSA

If they make IOS open source, then Apple will lose its iPhone & iPad business

      • s0me

Who said anything about open source? They need to let devs create some themes, NC widgets, homescreen widgets, keyboards, more customization for the whole system. They need to let devs integrate anything with IOS, I dont want to be forced to use Safari, I want Youtube links within Facebook to open in the damn Youtube app, in fact every Youtube link anywhere in the system should open in the Youtube app, I want to chose the navigation app in wich navigation links open. I want email attachments to simply download anywhere I want not just reload them every time. I want to be able to customize my Control Center. The IPhone became boring to me after the first 2 months of use, I dont think I will ever buy a new one until they let me do these things. Do you really want to have the same phone like the person next to you?

      • Jared Steffen

        Aka jailbreak

      • s0me

I was expecting this… Jailbreaking can crash your phone and still cant change much with those crappy winterboard themes and so-called widegts. Jailbreak on ios 5 was ok for me, no crashes but on ios 6, my phone crashed when I opened the Camera app, not every time, only in those moments I had to take pics. I had the same tweaks I had on ios 5.(no camera tweaks), and trust me I know what I’m doing.

      • NSA

sounds you were Android user and switched to IOS….only Android lets you do what you have mentioned…It does not matter if your phone looks the person next to you. There is no problem here. In the end is your phone not phone the person next to you, this is not an excuse.

      • s0me

Never had android / windows phone / Ios until 1.5 years ago when I bought my iphone 4s and ipad 3. I was not excusing myself of anything I would like my phone/tablet personalized and apps (programs before it was cool to call them apps) system integrated like on OSX and WIN.

      • NSA

so because you are IOS user, then you know Apple will never ever let you do what you have mentioned. Otherwise will be Android number 2…I agree with you sometimes it is annoying like in control center, I would like to have the toggles that I use the most. But this is the way that IOS works, the only option is to jailbreak you iPhone

      • s0me

I know they DONT want that, never is a big word, but they have to eventually, just a bigger screen is not enough for some ppl and they gonna swich to other OSs

      • NSA

did someone tell you they iPhone 6 will only feature a bigger screen?

        Could have some new features.

      • s0me

Yes, I could say Apple told me when they launched the iphone 5, no major changes. Same thing with IOS just a new winterboard theme and the CC. Well at least we got that.

      • NSA

It does not matter, it is true iPhone 5 and 5S have no major changes. However, they will do it in iPhone 6 or later. They will be forced to make changes

      • NSA

In regards changes, all the competitors are doing the same what Apple is doing every year. There is no company is coming up with totally new changes every year

      • s0me

I know, thats why I said they need software changes too. Software changes can bring new features to the phone aswell.

      • NSA

        Let see IOS 8

      • NSA

or they will have cool features in IOS 8.

      • Umut Bilgiç

Even though I agree with most of your ideas, there is two things you are forgetting about. First there is always (well, generally) option for Jailbreaking. Secondly, security. Apple having a new “Customization” section (or whatever) within the App Store sounds pretty good right? Just lile the applications, send them to Apple, let Apple review the code and see if they notice anything that are against the policies, if it is clean, your theme/file pathways/love wallpapers/etc is up on the store. But, we all know that if you realy want to get grt malicious code in iOS, you can

      • Umut Bilgiç

Like, there have been screen recorders, emulators, pirated app stores, porn applications on the appstore. It is obveous that Apple’s regulation process is not that flawless. Unless they do it open source, they can not let such thing happening. Becouse, the code that changes or alters the way ios works and feels and looks, is out of the sandbox. So basically, a developer could insert some type of code in their server that can start a stream from your front facing camera, to their computers, just becouse you pulled down the notification center. As I said, it is out of the sandbox

      • Umut Bilgiç

So it can go around every single kernel security system. Apple should literay rewrite their kernel to have sandboxes for Ui elements and file system. Which would also make it not-really-optimized and slow

      • blastingbigairs

Except for maybe HTC Sense, Android to this day still feels like the AFDC of OS’s.

      • Ted Forbes

So make both iOS (closed) and i0S (open) and allow the person to configure their device, device, that’s it.

    • Jones

Then where would the fun in jailbreaking go 😉 😛

  • D1squs

Now we can trust rumors. Most rumors now a days is 60-80% accurate, So yeah.

  • lanceuppercut47

Price them accordingly though and let’s not have the same 5c fiasco again!

    • John

      What fiasco is that?

    • Umut Bilgiç

The hell? Apple never said that they would launch an iPhone with low proce tag. The bloggers and us, were the ones who created all the hype and we are the ones bitching about it..

  • Kenrick Fernandes

can someone help me. ever since i jailbroken. the status bar on top over turns black whenever i make a call or im viewing photos. Does this happen to anyone else? Also in photo 2.. i installed ccquick and go into the secret settings.. everytime i respring it keeps going back to 1.00 to its original position. Is this supposed to happen? I reduce it to the lowest but it keeps going back to the middle

    • Matheus Lisboa

There’s a tweak called statusbarfix that will fix your statusbar problem

      • Kenrick Fernandes

thanks man this worked. can u help with my second question

      • Likii111

        install NoSlowAnimation it’s better

      • diggitydang

I found that with NoSlowAnimation, you couldn’t run it with the animations though. It’s only one speed with no control over settings and was so fast that no animations were even seen. HiddenSettings7 allows you to put a variable to the speed of the animations, and also allows you to keep animations but take away parallax. Also, it might go without saying but don’t have both NoSlowAnimations and HiddenSettings7 going and try to adjust animations from HiddenSettings7.

      • 3l Principe

They updated NoSlowAnimations to be able to manually set the speed..

      • diggitydang

I’ve been looking for this but can’t find it. Could you provide the repo/source that this fix is in? Thanks in advance!

      • RarestName

        http repo pnre co vu

      • diggitydang

        Great thanks!

      • Matheus Lisboa

You can find it on Hackyouriphone repo

    • Luism27

about the slow animations reset… Make sure you have the latest version of HiddenSettings 7 installed.. The tweak was updated two days ago and it fixes that issue.

      • Jonathan

Kinda random, but do you like T-Mobile? Good service and customer support? I know, really random… but I’d like to know.

      • Luism27

T-mobile isn’t that bad for what you pay.. It used to suck 2 years ago But it’s become better.. I’ve experienced lower signal in places that AT&T has full coverage but I can live with that. If your the kind of person that needs signal all the time and don’t mind paying too much, I’d say go with AT&T or Verizon.

      • Jonathan

Actually, I’m interested in that iPad 200 MB a month free thingy.. If T-Mobile is flat out horrible, I wouldn’t do it. But I think I will now. Thanks 🙂

  • Matt

5.7 is too big IMO but then again there are people who actually have the Note 3 as theirs main phone 0.0

    • Dan

best thing to do is to have a phablet, and a regular sized phones, that way everyone is happy

    • Hyr3m

What are they going to call it ? iFab ?

  • Rainhart

    Perfect

  • leart

For me the perfect size it’s the classic one, 4/4s, but always to have a choice it’s good…

    • box office

To me the ip5 is a god tool

  • Luis B.

Did anyone see that Display Recorder has been updated for iOS 7?

  • Opt1kon

Count me in 4.7″ is that magical sweet spot, and with a finger print scanner, hope these rumorsare true

  • Ted Forbes

Larger would be great but Apple should also keep 4in as an option.

    • RarestName

Like I’ve said before, a smaller screen does not necessarily mean that it’s easier to handle. In the case of the 3.5″ devices vs the 4″ devices from Apple, the ones with the smaller screens are still easier to handle with one hand. It’ll be interesting to see what they’ll do if they happen to up the screen size again.

  • Dan

I just recently bought myself a iPad air and am falling in love again with IOS. (I had been a android convert for a year). I’m due for a phone upgrade this year, if they come out with a bigger iPhone (5” is my minimum), I’m back into the ecosystem 🙂

    • Kurt

I’m loving my Air too. My iPad 1 is sooooooooo slow. my 4S is fine though but lots of small problems. But my Air is working perfect and runs really well.

Same here, I won’t go under 5″. Hopefully they will make it larger than 5″. I really like the 5.7″ on the Note 3.

      • Dan

it certainly does, I had a Nexus 7 (2013) but there is simply no comparison. I still have my Note 2 and wouldn’t discard it for an iPhone 5S since I’m too used to the screen size. Bigger screen and I’d be on board. Android is great but I’m tired of screwing around with rooting stuff and custom roms lol.

      • Kurt

My particular Note 3 can’t be rooted. I don’t get this rooting crap. Blah. But since I’m a new Android user I don’t mind stock as I can do so much. I just wish I could get rid of the sound of the camera. I hate how loud it is when you focus and then take a pic. Maybe I should try a different app then stock. How do you like the Nexus 7? It seems too narrow for my taste. I guess cause I’m used to iPad/Touchpad.

      • Dan

Yeah try camera zoom fx, I use it all the time over the standard camera app.

The Nexus 7 was a good little tablet, but the app selection was weak (no infinity blade, xcom, oceanhorn…) and the screen always seemed a bit off (the top part was brighter). I sold it and bought an iPad air 128 GB 🙂

  • Nils Goosse

not quite sure if apple will produce an 4.7″ iPhone… They have been speaking from the launch of the first iphone about 1 size that fits perfectly in one hand

    • RarestName

No. The recent Tim Cook interview said that they’re not going to introduce bigger screens until they figure out how not to affect things like battery life. Note that he didn’t deny that bigger screens are not better.

      • Kurt

bigger screen=bigger phone which means bigger battery. The larger battery will be able to power the larger screen and provide longer life to the phone. My note 3 lasts two days with a decent amount of use. It’s 12:30am and my phone has been used all day and its only at 61%. That’s amazing!

      • RarestName

Yeah the Note 3 has fantastic battery life.

  • Rowan09

How is it that according to this report the 4.7 inch screen is only 720 while the 5.7 is 1080? I do believe Apple is going to make a larger screen phone and I’m going to get the smaller of the 2. 5.7 is way too big for me.

  • Luism27

It would be cool if Apple releases two iPhones 6… The iPhone Air and The PRO.. Both with the same specs, except the Screen Size!

    • iPT MSTR

      Totally

  • babiloe

If iphoneislam’s PhoneitIPad jb solved into iPad mini retina iOS7, i don’t need bigger iphone. 🙂

  • ɑղժɾҽա

4.7″ 720p display? Come one, Apple, competitors did this two years ago.

  • Prasoon Singh

    Can’t wait! I need a bigger screen.

  • Everything above 5 inch is WAY too big!

    • DanielHsu2

That’s not what the ladies say 🙂

  • Apanizo2

Yea whatever the next one is. I’m in !!

  • Vikas Goel

no this is very bad bcoz iphone is iphone not samsung look not any look this look is great

  • Vikas Goel

screen is not important some new ios features like cytdia

  • Guest

the new macbook is what I’m excited about

  • PanaMeño Meño

    Perfect…!

  • Ryan W

    I don’t mind for 4.7 inch I JUST WANT A BIGGER SCREEN

I also want an extra 0.3 inches for a very thin bezel for OCD reasons.

  • Ryan W

If iOS is an open mobile os, Then I will get my fingers crossed for HTC to make an iOS smartphone.

    • Gustavo Adolfo Mirabal

      Dont hold your breath though

  • 4.7″ iPhone 6 & 5.7″ iPhad…sounds interesting…

  • blastingbigairs

I saved my last upgrade just for you Mr. 5.7″ iPhone!!

  • Josh

I’m gonna buy a new iphone if it 4.7″ display.

  • n0ahcruz3

Another row of icons plz. 🙂

  • kelvis

It doesn’t matter what apple release people buy it , if they make the same phone people love it anyway. iPhone fan

  • Ketan

Iphone 6 and 4.7 or 5.7 I will buy. Come on Apple bring it on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • chris125

What is apple going to do with the device being 720p and no longer “retina” they can’t release a product that would be going backwards /s

    • bring_it_on

Sharp already has sollutions for apple, if they do want to get into higher rez screens with higher PPI’s..If I am not mistaken Sharp has demonstrated LCD’s that go all the way up to 498PPI…In fact rumours are surfacing that the Samsung Galaxy S5 may perhaps use one such high rez high ppi LCD developed by sharp..I seriously doubt apple will indefinitly stick to the retina definition that they are using for years on end..As Tim Cook mentioned in one of his interviews, if technological compromises are mitigated they may look for better sollutions..Much has advanced as far as LCD’s, IGZO’s, OLED’s etc in the last few years..I do not expect apple to stay put and not take advantage of the advances !

  • bring_it_on

I feel apple needs to do a fundamental change in its product line up..They are not as rigid as we make them out to be in a lot of aspects..I want an Iphone PRO (around 5 inches) inch device as the high end phone, with the latest bells and whistles..A8 chip, IOS8, the latest high res LCD from Sharp and whatever else apple has been working on/investing on (Sapphire screen glass etc)..IOS8 could transform into something that adds versatility to the larger devices adding unique UI that makes use of the size etc..Launch the iPhone-PRO and Ipad-PRO (12.9 inch) aimed at the higher end productivity market, and for those wanting a bigger phone alongside IOS8..Retain the Iphone5s, upgrade the chip, camera etc and keep it as such for those wanting the smaller form factor (They still get the latest processor, latest camera upgrades etc)..I would price the Iphone_Pro so that it comes in around 350$ – 550$ (350, 450, 550)..the upgraded 5S can then be priced lower..I would do away with the 5C all together and just ditch the market given that apple would have been able to get a handle on the production process for the 5/5S so that they can reduce production costs..The 5 is a beautiful design and is not showing any age whatsoever..I’d retain it and sell it at a lower cost..The PRO becomes your flagship device while the upgraded 5s still has the latest and greatest..

  • Rak S

Never going to happen. The iPhone will have one screen size option, that’s it. They may differentiate it by only increasing its size, and not that of the “C” but that’s it.
6″ is too big for a phone anyway. 5″ max. Just because Samsung and HTC had bigger phones years ago, doesn’t mean Apple will, or should, follow suit.
